  • What do you get when you put a 1000 Watt mid drive on a full suspension Catrike Dumont recumbent trike? A super comfortable, 35 mile per hour alternative vehicle, that's what. Obviously you'll need to watch your speed as laws vary by state, but if you're looking for an electric option, the Bafang Mid Drive is a force to be reckoned with. This Dumont had some extras as well, like the UTCustom Super Head rest, EZ entry aids, and double rear view mirrors.

    I love cartrike/ tripendo, esp. the fully suspension, and, the mid-drive motor is also my favorate-- this one looked delicated and elegant.

    Very nice.
    I love the look of the Dumont.
    I have been riding an Expedition for the last 5 years.
    Started off with a BionX but switched over to a geared hub 2 years ago. I can pull 1000 watts if I want but never need it.

    The front tires look like Schwalbe Big Apples. Are they? and what size? I mounted my 750W Bafang Midmount motor above the boom on my HP Velotechnic Gekko. The torque wants to push it against the front derailleur post and it seems to work well, although I am a little concerned about chain life. When I shift into the 12 tooth small cog and pedal hard with full assist the chain will start skipping teeth. The 14 tooth no problem but not as high a top end!

    Another great video! Keep them coming! My question is: What Catrike full suspension trike is similar to the Expedition? I really like my Expedition, which I bought from UT, and If I switch to full suspension I would like to have a close trike to the Expedition in size/length etc. Thanks!

      @UtahTrikesOnline  Před 4 lety +2

      Definitely the Dumont. If you don't need folding we can also build up the Catrike Road AR with a 26in rear wheel, but the supply of Road AR trikes is quickly coming to an end.

    Are you working on a frame-mounted rack? With a rack & panniers mounted to the swingarm, it negates the shock/spring function. I'd love a rack that comes off the main body reducing unsprung weight.

    What is the average range per charge? I also couldn't help but notice the wrist placement. Due to the angle of the throttle, It seems like it could use some sort of wrist support or rest for it to not to create tension in the wrists over time.

    • @UtahTrikesOnline
      @UtahTrikesOnline  Před 4 lety

      The Dumont does come with adjustable wrist rests.
      Battery range depends on many factors. Generally you can expect 10-20 miles per battery if using the motor only or up to 4X that if using pedal assist.

      @@patthomsen4361 I converted a two-wheel bike with the same Bafang HD motor & 48v, 17ah battery and cost was about $1,400. Almost half of that was the battery. My guess is UT setup will cost a little more due to the custom-fabbed trike- specific parts. I was thinking about converting my trike too and just sharing the battery between both bikes.

    I know that laws vary by state/country when it comes to Electric bicycles, but are things that you have to watch out for? If an electric bike is classified as a car requiring registration, should I register it and use the roads? I know in Utah that all bicycles are considered vehicles and have to follow speed limits and lights, but what about accidents with cars, if surviving will insurance companies try to sue me?
