Agnus, I read the New Yorker article about you. And I am watching this talk. It was helpful to me in many ways after my own experience. My wife and I divorced and after “nesting” for years and eventually having a plutonic and loving relationship, my son’s and I lost her to an overdose of fentanyl last year. We didn’t get to live out many of the aspirations we had (one of which was to write about the experience) because I think we would have always been together. Marriage and relationships are so complicated and the grief of losing somebody who is committed to you and your family has been tremendous. Moving forward has been one of radical change and a complete reinterpretation of what it is to be human and why. Embracing a life when there seems nothing left to loose. My journey has been spiritual as well as intellectual. Since we lost her I watched my mother pass of Alzheimer’s and seeing what it is like to forget it all puts everything it into perspective. Sorry to hear this Glenn. I have a problem with Agnes abusing her position and justifying it by using philosophy and making it an intellectual argument..I wish them well but it seems really icky to me. Yes marriage is hard along with life..boredom sets in but you have to put in the work or just have an open relationship and don't hurt your family in the process. Stay well
I don't think I've ever heard a better introduction of a guest than 1:18. And to her credit, Agnes is pretty weird herself, and I love how her radical openness to ideas inspires everyone to become a bit weirder intellectually!
Silly owl.🦉 There’s no such thing as an immortal soul. I once believed the same until I realized that we are mechanical beings. We are mortal beings made of Flesh and Bone and nothing more. When the mind goes, we go. The soul does not exist. The thing we call the soul is actually just the brain. At this very moment, who's doing the thinking, the brain or the soul? The answer is the brain. If the soul did exist, wouldn’t you agree that the soul would have to be indestructible in order for man’s consciousness to be eternal. How is it then that when we age, we slowly lose our cognitive abilities. As you can see, the so call soul is far from being indestructible. The soul being made of flesh slowly deteriorates. Or should I say the brain. The whole purpose of the soul is to preserve the knowledge of self and the memory of your loved ones. Without memory, there is no recollection of family or the knowledge of self. Without such knowledge, there is no you. The good news is that our atoms will go on to take other forms. You'd be surprised to learn that you were once a bird, a fish, a spider, a fly, even a dinosaur, and among other things. Reason over faith. Yay.😸
