With how Johannnsson and Villeneuve worked together for Sicario and Arrival, I wonder what Dune 2021 would have sounded like if Johann was still around to compose for it. Probably would have sounded so much more ethereal and suspenseful. I like Zimmer, but since his sound has been copied and basically become the mainstream cinematic sound, the type of surreal music Johannsson made would have been an interesting twist.
I think Villeneuve originally had Johannsson on Blade Runner 2049, but they felt Johann's sensibility wasn't working on it, as far as I remember Johann himself agreed. It's such a shame they'll never get to work together again. I wonder if Denis regrets it.
