You are both correct: the vocal on part one was recorded live but Ren makes adjustments to all his live vocals back home in his home studio.

That line in Hi Ren makes more sense now, right? She sells sea shells on the sea shore.
If you see the post production skills he uses to clean up The Big Push (his last band) when they were playing out on the streets busking, you'll understand how he got the live vocals for MG 1.
I feel in 1 Ren is the world/greed. And the man in chair was humanity, he gave them eyes to watch the world burn !!
To me, it was more like a "before you go hunting for bad guys, should check if ur one of them"
