Click on the grid so no object is highlighted. Then make an invisible square around the objects you want to align. Click the align symbol and follow what happens in the view to align the objects.

You can drag a box around your shapes to select multiple, you could press ctrl+a to select all, or press and hold shift and click on multiple things at a time
