    I knew who you were going in. At least I got some tips in exchange for getting destroyed. Holy crap I didn't realize how strong pitch was, no wonder people were always faster than me. I'm gonna go in arena commander and try your pitch up technique. I guess getting slaughtered was worth it LOL

    I've had this ship since release - and in the currently flight model I hate it (particularly in atmo where it has all the handling of a dead cow using an Action Man parachute). Against good opposition, my biggest issue is stamina death - with boost reliance to maintain position. All that said, lots of great advice in this video.

    The Hawk's a fun fighter despite its flimsy wing guns. It's definitely one that has changed to a much more pitch/roll dependent flight pattern since 3.14, which threw me at first.

    Awesome video! I've got some questions, if you don't mind:
    - What do you think of the Hawk vs the Gladius?
    - Do you corkscrew into fights to be a harder to track target?
    - I'm flying a Constellation Taurus as my main ship. Instead of corkscrewing in, blowing by and trying to get behind the target, would I be better off (since my shields are strong but the ship is sluggish) trying to just beeline towards the target and light him up, instead of corkscrewing in?
    - How do you know what the prime engage distance, or slot, is? You mentioned 800m in the video.
    - Why strafe up instead of pitch up?
    Thanks so much!

    • @DakkaDakka12
      @DakkaDakka12 Před rokem +2

      I agree with a lot of these questions, hopefully Avenger can answer them.
      I was also thinking about the hawk for pvp bc while it is a flimsy and large target, the emp could force your opponent to back off giving you a chance to reset the fight if its not going your way.
      Also if your opponent tries to flee, its faster than most ships, only racers can outrun it in a straight chase.

  • @YouCountSheep
    @YouCountSheep Před 2 lety

    I notice that you only pitch up but most ships turn way faster if you pitch and yaw at the same time. It depends if the manouvering thrusters have sets for these specific directions or if they are gimballed. If you have seperate sets of thrusters or generally more you'll turn alot faster than what some stats on the ship pages make you believe.
    I recently retested that by doing a turn circle in Hurston atmo. While turning my Hawk on the side and just turning by pitching straight up It needs around 6 seconds for a full circle without boost and throttle up. When I did a sort of 45 degree angle both pitching and yawing it took 4 seconds.
    This test is best done on a planet or moon with the sun or any other very noticeable landmark to count the time. In space you could easily get turned around and not fly a flat circle.

  • @oldman1111
    @oldman1111 Před 2 lety +4

    I've been saying what you're saying for YEARS. Some people who think they're top pilots just orbit or side strafe without rolling or actually utilizing all of the actual potential ability of individual ships.

    • @Avenger__One
      @Avenger__One  Před 2 lety +4

      that's because you are like me, and believe in objective truth not personal truth

    • @MMORPG87
      @MMORPG87 Před 2 lety +5

      This way of flyin is the only way to use lag pips. Flyin lead this method is not needed and why ppl orbit or strafe. This does t make you a top pilot so idk what that comment was for. It would be hard to explain so jump in ac mode and just try keeping your pip on target as much as possible. If you dont roll with lag pips you will work yourself to death and still nvr keep pip on target. The draw back of a lag pip against a lead pip is that you are always presenting your belly setting up for the merge on a head on attack. And often left with the target out of sight while setting your pip. Lead pips have the advantage of always keeping you in view and nose on target and dont have to make large movments to put pip on target when target changes direction. Strafing is just a bi product of keeping pip on target. Just like circle fighting is for lag pip users.it all comes down to what FEELS better to the pilot. Lag feels like playin dcs combat and lead feels like an fps shooter

    • @Avenger__One

    Is there a logical reason why ESP is more helpful in the pitch axis over yaw?
    When it comes to pure turn rate, you would get the fastest turns diagonally, utilizing both axes' turn rates simultaneously.

    • @Avenger__One
      @Avenger__One  Před 2 lety +1

    @Dray81 Před rokem

    I know I am late to this video but I keep hearing people talk about how flimsy this ship is but after looking at EKURL, the hawk has more hp and the same shields as the gladius. Was there a buff to it that made it better? In my experience with both ships, the hawk is a better ship and to be honest, I really didn't see all that much of a difference when it came to maneuverability. Maybe it's just me but I've been killing it with that hawk. This thing lowkey, is probably my favorite fighter.

    In theory the Hawk has a pitch of 46 deg/s and yaw of 42 deg/s. Is that 4 deg/s difference what makes Pitch superior? Or is there another factor - like maybe a difference in terms of accelerating into the max rotational speed?

    • @oldman1111
