I own Pizzazz Piercing and Tattoo in Gainesville at 532 N. Main St. We moved here from Boston. While some places areas are rough, we love it here.

Summers and holidays make the city feel like a ghost town. 🧐 The students really make an impact in Gainesville.

Persistent heat: > 100 days/year of > 90F, poor air service (almost nothing direct, no discount carriers, expensive), the GRU vs Clay Electric thing depending on location of the house you buy (ie, GRU is an expensive huge mess), relatively boring place to live especially if not particularly into the Gators

Gainesville doesn't have its own microclimate or animal kingdom. It's no different than the rest of North Florida for weather and bugs.
The "everytownusa"ism of Gainesville is real, though. All the private, non-chain restaurants from the 80s and 90s are being overrun by Dardens and all the other chains you find in literally every other town. Stay strong El Indio, Las Margaritas, The Top, Amelia's, Satchel's, Five Star, Mac's Drive Thru, Ichiban, Yummy House, 43 St Deli and any of the other independents and Gainesville brands. And if you're eating out in Gainesville, make sure to support these establishments and skip Bahama Breeze and Chuy's.
