its the center disc hub the felt get's worn down and "slippery", either take the drive aprt or add using a Q-Tip rubbing achohol to center of dvd and insert it fast

I just tried the same procedure on a philips blu ray. Worked like a charm. I do think however that the sled (on which the lens head moves) had accumulated some dried up dust and that was the real issue in my case. Many thanks

At first I thought your method didn't work because each time I closed the drawer it would open back up but then I hit the power button to turn it off because it closes the drawer and it stays closed. Then when I turned it back on with the play button it started working immediately. Thanks a lot for your help.

Nicely done, but I have one suggestion. Before calling customer service or anything like that, check the board for corrosion or if any of the connectors are loose

Many handle the actual discs like trash. If the disc has fingerprints and/or scratches, it's not usually the laser's lens that needs cleaning.

wow smart man mine is coming up error disc everyone I try .and even my Lazer cleaner won't play!!! I cleaned the tray! and my disc are new so maybe it's the vcr player but I'm gong to try this before I buy another one ..thank u!!!! good tips!!

Hi Akshay, I have a question. My Toshiba DVR630KC model VCR/DVD player will not load a disc. I took it apart and cleaned the lens and it still won't load. Any advice on how to fix this problem? Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
Hello Michael, If cleaning not solving the problem means lens is damaged. Need to get it replaced from Toshiba ASC.
I cleaned the laser lens but noticed a couple of capacitors that are showing some damage so I suppose they'll be my next project.

You can use diagonal cutters to get a spin on those stripped screw heads that he had difficulty with.

Akshay!! So cleaning off the lense has now got my DVD player to accept the disc. It no longer says "no disc" and the time comes up on the front of the DVD player BUT now when I hit play it immediately stops and won't play the DVD still.. Any suggestions?
Check if something is blocking the laser way. Or a laser might be damaged. Need to change cd assembly.

Yes, it will work. But disassembly might be a complete disaster and risky.
I have to tilt my dvd player for the laser to read, and then i can play, but if i take out the cd and put it back again, it said no disc.. Any idea?

How long is the laser last?
3 to 5 years depends on quality.
First, clean all the fingerprints off the disc (troubleshooter: do not touch the disk data side with hands/fingers).
I put the disch on tray then closed then the CD rotate for two times then it stops followed by showing "no disc"
Follow the same steps and hopefully, it will be fixed.
Cleaning the lens doesn't work all the time, you need to slightly increase the voltage to the lens from the pot/s on the circuit board. And 10 min to remove some screws? Really??
The time required to get the casing off and manually clean, a cleaning disc would be sufficient. What can you do a cleaning disc cannot? That's what their designed for (if you have one laying around that is...) Other issues could just be a bad disc... No amount of cleaning would fix that. It surprises me the number of CZcams video fails to miss this rather obvious point.
There are some dvd's that just are bad..... Believe it, or not, you do get dud's. Les likely with retail discs, but it can happen there too. But, we all like tinkering, so i guess we're all excused..
I tried the cleaning discs but no luck, it only cleans the cd rails not the sensor. Thanks for the feedback, will definitely improve.
@@AKSHAYBHOPANI Think you got that backwards.. CD cleaners are designed to clean the sensor, they have brushes on the disc for that the rails are or either side of the drive where the disc sits. but ya np

It happens mostly because of dust accumulated on the laser. Try cleaning it as shown in this video. Many people reported it worked.

Check if it is belt driven, and the belts are intact, troubleshoot the power supply.

This means either the CD is damaged or something is coming between the tray and laser. Try to clean with this method or contact customer service.

Akshay u need a four side screw driver not a two side flat one. Your using a tester to open the DVD.

i had a diffrence dvd player he says also no disk. it was a defective capacitor on the mainboard of the player, he was bugled, a 470uf 16v capacitors i replaced the capacitor for a new one and it works.

Out of curiousity, what model was it? I am working on an RCA DRC8335 right now with the same issue. The secondary of the PSU is brimming with those, and I replaced with a higher value voltage rating. I haven't gotten to the DVD board yet(after I got it to turn on at all by fixing PSU, I got a no disk error from the DVD.) In addition, the VCR transport doesn't respond at all, and if I spam the eject button, the front panel dims, and then turns off and the unit resets! This spurred me to go ahead and build a curve tracer for this repair, since I can't even find a schematic anywhere. I am not sure what voltages need to be present on this particular model...so the only way forward is to actually test all components to be within operating specs.

There would be some foreign object inside disc tray, try to open or take it to service.

It can be around 800Rs to 1200 for the caddy includes the whole assembly. Check-in nearby service center.

That doesn't matters. It's not able to read. Try other cds. Might be laser diode damaged. Take it to service center and get it replaced.

I think its an IR laser, so your cell phone can visually see it. If this is the problem is it easy to check. Just turn on your digital camera, and point it at the laser(not directly!) if you can see it, it is on. If the surface is smooth, you're good to go.
I was hoping for a really in-depth characteristic video where it shows common fail points, and also what everything should look like under electrical test. Instead it was standard tier 1 tech support. I think most people who end up on here have already tried the CD cleaner/is it plugged in options...

Your CD player might be VCD Player. So old Cd's worked but new DVD's won't work. This has nothing to do with troubleshooting.
Mine too is a Philips DVD Player but same error mentioned above, normal CD is working but dvd is not working

Try another video CD. Or use Philips Lens's Cleaner. If still doesn't work then there will be some problem in decoding circuit or Lens itself. Take it to service.

+SK Channel So you can put HD movies/ videos and play it directly at full hd. Some DVD players still doesn't supports MP4. You need MPEG 2 or AVI video file. You can convert it too.
hey Apu I know how to clean the laser eye in the DVD player. You DVD might be scratched. Throw it away. Not the player.

Why not use a disc cleaner disc that's designed to clean the lens? You are taking a chance of damaging the lens buy your procedure.

Larry Osterkamp, a lot of those DVD cleaners don't work. It depends on the environment where the DVD player is at. If you are working on a DVD player where the owner smokes, the commercial DVD cleaners won't help.
And yet another person finding something irrelevant to complain about. He fixed it. And didn't damage it.........

You need star philips screw driver. Even i did it with wrong screw driver so took time.
