I am glad I stumbled across your video I did not know there was a peace made specifically to do that and I'm getting ready to do mine on my 2014 based on many CZcams videos thank you I really appreciate you putting this out like you said little bit of insurance for 30 bucks goes a long way with the transmission these days
"Down in dare" 😂
Great video, many thanks.
Good argument BUT with the pill flip, the transmission doesn’t get even near temperature to cause that pin to work out. I’ve monitored mine and it runs consistently 50* cooler than before
5:57 good videos. I just replaced my 6L80 transmission cooler lines with Dorman kit and tried to put the transco bypass kit in but the first part that goes in wouldn’t fit in the bore. Going to try the superior solution style.
Thanks for this! Do you need both the items from both links? Can you do a video on how to do this the correct way?
the STL is the best kit from shift technologies.
please post links to the videos you mention here in your comments, cant find them in your home page
I found TSB 21-NA-199 and had it done on the GM reman 6L80 I had to have installed after my original transmission went bye-bye. OEM parts, done by the dealer at no charge at the time of the new transmission install, it allows the fluid to start flowing through the cooler 34 degrees sooner. One of my cooler lines was weeping at a crimp so they replaced both lines during all this for free. I’m not into aftermarket parts and won’t put them on my truck, so the delete kit thing can’t speak on, I go OEM.
Man for years I just drill and tap the thermostat and red lock title a pipe plug then there is no restriction. Springs or whatever.
Do you have a part number for the superior solutions? I am trying to get it through advanced but don’t see it anywhere except Amazon and eBay
Can transmission be drill and tap for an fitting to eliminate block all together
GM sell new one open at 71c it was 91c before
Over heat warning two times, trans has been heating up to 220 city driving. But I live in MI. Should I do the bypass or the 150 replacement?
You have a serious issue. Are you towing or something? Your cooler could be clogged up.
Flipping the pill did not work for me; still hitting 250 at times.
you might try unhooking your cooler lines at the radiator and back flush them from top to bottom and I also do not like flipping the pill there is to much room for error
@@codemansauto208 thanks for the suggestion, I’m actually going to pull the unit off and open it up to see whats going on in there. I had trusted my transmission guy, but I’m thinking they did not install the SHIFT kit correctly.
From what I understand, G.M. has a 150 degree thermostat for this transmission. Am I wrong?
You are not wrong. The TSB is 21-NA-199 and it’s a very easy and inexpensive swap.
what happens when you just remove the pill complete ? greetings.
I have a video on removing the pill to show what would happen please check it out
Thank you for this video. A friend who has a similar truck to mine just told me about the 150 t-stat swap. I am skeptical about it. What I'd like to know is, is it mandatory to have the TCM reset and relearn or will it relearn over time? Or will a scanner reset or battery disconnect reconnect help the issue? I've also heard about the Mobile 1 Blue synthetic being the correct replacement for these transmissions because there was an experimental fluid used on certain models that didn't work. Any thoughts on all of this. Thank you again!
If you google 8L90 Mobil 1 TSB, it specifically states that its the updated fluid for the 8 speed trans. The 6L80 requires Full Synthetic Dexron VI.
I did the surecool. With temps in the mid 80’s the trans runs at 130-140.
My question is now where should my fluid measure on the dip stick? I just followed the cold measuring process. Anyone have more info on correct fluid measurement when the trans never gets to the hot measurement process?
2017 Silverado 6 speed.
Set the level with the engine at operating temp and you can't go wrong. Even with the temp cold it should be close since the flow is constant.
Good question on fluid level. Since mine runs cooler (same as yours) the fluid doesn't expand as much so had to put in another quart to reach full, mark.
My 2015 max temp goes to 175 should i make the switch ?
No, that's well within normal operating temperature.
How about the updated 150 thermostat gm makes
why would i install something that could go bad when i can install something for half the price that will never go bad,
its convenient for GM to find a solution that they can make more millions with
Cause if it gets cold like 20 or below won't get any temp
@@user-mx2sy5tq2unever had an issue and it gets well below zero here. still run at 160
@@fishman80yes it runs far too cool. They told me it’s never too cool. Well central Canada winters I can barely get 20 degrees F at best when it’s full warmed at temp. This is not a great solution for some, and I can vouch for it. I’ve ran the sure cool for 2 years now and I can’t run it winters here. It’s not a good system mod for cold.
@@jaybilawchuk2225 ok yea. ur better off with the updated thermo than.
What is the better route to go in your opinion, transgo or superior surecool?
Take a look at PPE thermostat delete. Bolts right on and it has a built in magnet.
@@2knipexNO. Don't be a dummy and get the best option, the STL 010 kit from Superior Solutions is the way to go by far.
Watch the S.S. STL 010 videos and you'll (hopefully) understand.
You’re the dummy!
PPE has a thermostat bypass that is made out of machined aluminum AND has a magnet that can be removed and cleaned. They make one for the 6 and 8 speed transmissions. Check it before commenting dummy!
Why can’t you just get rid of it and just run old school by sending the oil to a cooler and back to the trans, heat is the worse enemy for a 6l80 and will kill the trans, you can buy a piece that does that exact thing and that’s what I’m doing and fitting a trans go shift kit, may do the trans go reprogramming kit if needed
Geez, just swap it out with the 150 degree version already!
My GM mechanic told me 🤫 don’t spend money on the cooler bypass flipping the pill does the exact same from a 20+ year GM certified mechanic there’s no way the pin will come out the pill and if it does worse case your transmission magnet will catch the pin
Only after the pin goes thru your transmission destroying it. Just do the bypass, it only cost 40 bucks. Install takes five minutes.
