It took me weeks to figure out how to install Windows on my PC. A lot of the troubleshoot videos on CZcams didn't work for me. I was lucky enough to solve this issue thanks to a post on a forum.

This process included installing Window set up installer files onto my external hard drive from a different computer/laptop. I believe the flash drive or hard drive needs to be formatted as MS-DOS in order for it to be readable. Then I copied the installation files onto my SDD with command prompt and diskpart. I turned off my computer and unplugged my hard drive. I turned my pc back on and it automatically boots to Windows installer. I continue with the installation process to completion without failing at 90%. I restart my computer but my PC is booted back to the Windows installer again. I use Diskpart to format the small partition that was created earlier. I restart my computer again and my PC no longer boots back to the same Windows installation process, but boots to the final steps in setting up Windows.

omg i was so frustrated and I almost returned my motherboard. I thought it was hardware issues, switched ram slots, individuals rams, swapped out graphics cards and even all the storage. Its making me crazy. I am so lucky to find your video, and I am really grateful that you addressed the issues and uploading it to youtube. If not for you, I almost ended up returning all my parts!!!
This video is a lifesaver! I spent hours trying everything to get windows to install!
Your video helped me do an install today on my PC. Thank you for posting this! It was very helpful.
Congrats!
Thank you for this post! This got my Windows to install! The only thing I did differently was bootsect /nt60 (drive name) /mbr (instead of GPT). Not sure why that worked but it did!
Awesome. This worked for me. Only thing i had to do different was change the entire drive to GPT initially, BEFORE partitioning.
Thanks for making this video!
Ohh my god, you've just saved my life. As relatively simple as it was, don't you know how time did I wasted since found your video.
Thanks a lot.
Thank you mate, it worked perfect for me. I had the same issue and after 12hr trouble got it resolved with this technique. Patience really helped.
Thank you again for helping me recover my machine. you're a saviour.
I'm glad to hear that!
The only method that actually worked for Win11 + PCI gen5 SSD. Massive thanks!
Thanks. This video helped me yesterday with setting up when nothing else worked. You are a legend.
How did you guys opened cmd ?
@@animegear9447maybe a bit late, but its Shift+F10
Brother thank you so much. you saved my day, this worked for me i was so frustrated cuz i was struggling with this error for so much of time.
Thank you again for recovering this machine ❤️👌😊😁
it doesn t work while you convert to gpt. first you can t set a gpt partition as active , either you cann copy files to D: - unable to create directory - D:
thank you so much you saved my day. You might want to change the disk initially to 'gpt' before the partitioning
A very clear video. It works thanks mate.
I showed my cousin this video and this worked for his Dell laptop but didnt work on mine one. Are there other ways to fix this error sir? my one is an alienware laptop.
Keep on posting and helping the world
the only one solution works till the end of installation! Thanks very much. I use an USB insteed of external drive, and replace MBR by GPT.
You're a lifesaver!!!! Thank you so much!
This is how I fixed the problem: in my case I was coming out of Linux back to Windows 10, I unplugged my windows 10 flash drive, then I deleted every partition connected to Linux, reinstalled my PC (I plugged the windows 10 flash drive back on) and followed with the installation process again and it worked!
Thank you, i successfully repaired my bricked laptop!!
Very helpful, thank you!!!
Yes!! this did it, took me all morning to fix this stupid problem. Many thanks!!
أنت الأفضل❤️❤️
أخيراً نجحت في اجتياز هذه المشكلة،،،، شكراً جزيلا لك❤️
I do not know what kind of magic is this, but it worked! Thank you!
Thanks so much. For some reason couldn't get it working on GPT, but MBR works!
I have a question if anyone could help! I followed the instructions up until the 1:21 second mark at that part it began confusing me. I have several sensitive drives on my computer i don't want altered, I only want Windows installed on Disk 1 (the disk I formatted following the instructions so far). What is happening passed the 1:21 second mark and will it effect my other disks or only disk 1?
Using mbr worked for me. Thanks bro
Life Saver! Thanks!
let's gooo this worked thanks so much bro!!
Congrats!
Mate ur a life saver ur method worked well
OMG, It actually worked. I did run into issues making the GPT partition active. It gave me an error. I just skipped making it active.
This solution worked for me! GPT all the way. However, do you know how I can remove the separated partition(s) after installing? It says my local disk is now the partition I created and it wont let me delete or expand it, only shrink.
another tip is to check if your mother board supports the version of windows that you are trying to install, in my case i also needed to update my BIOS and get the win10 2004 (oct compilation) because this is the latest vertion of it supports
Thank you so much , it worked for me
Thank you so much for this video mate it was the only way i was able to install windows after trying many different methods.
Glad this helped you!
When I type "wmic logicaldisk get caption," c:, d:, and x: show up.
But when enter "wmic logicaldisk where drivetype=3 get deviceid, volumeid," only c: and x: show up.
When I do "xcopy: c: d: /e /h /k," it says File creation error - The parameter is incorrect. Unable to create directory - D:\. 0 File(s) copied.
When I try "xcopy: c: /e /h /k," I get cannot perform a cyclic copy.
thank you so much I have been struggling for like 2 weeks. I had to do a few things differently, the code for selecting the partition did not include any "=" on my asus mini pc. I reinserted the USB during install because it said that it could not find the drivers. In the end I did not reformat the small partition of the drive yet, I am not sure what number partition it is for me, it is not drive 2 I am not turning my pc off until I figure out which partition and if I should format the partition.
I get all the way to reformatting it so it doesn't open in windows install process but I can't seem to do it. Any ideas why? I copied the exact commands shown in the image but on restart im just seeing the windows install process every time
works fine thanks a lot man
After 2 days trying with different options this way works to me, YES do GPT for all, Thanks !!!!
So glad to hear that!
Good to know that it worked for you. I'm a bit on the fence of taking this video down because of wasting people's time if it didn't work.
@@reveryinteractive dont do it, it takes some time to understand, because you only are typing commands, and for someone that maybe dont know nothing about cmd is hard to understand, maybe you can do another one with a better explaination about it or a comment
@@reveryinteractive hello. Whenever I reach the xcopy c: d: /e /h /k part it tells me that d: is doesn't exist

Thank you, this works :)
Thank u so much man ❤
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm able to copy all the installation files from the USB to my SSD, but I can never get it to boot on the SSD; it shows the screen saying that there is no recognized boot device
wtf
Works, I'm just created GPT partition without 'active' command with is available inly for mbr
i have this problem on a MacBook Pro 2015. any idea if this work as well on my Mac?
4:26 I am using ssd so went with mbr and it worked, also if pc goes into boot loop just format the partition which has bootable window. Thanks
Thank you very much I installed Windows! only I can no longer see the MacOs system. I would like to use Windows and MacOs.
xcopy c: d: /e /h /k
Invalid drive specification
worked well. thanks for the life saver. the partition took away somewhere around 6GB. is that normal?
Thanks
When I try “xcopy c: d: /e /h /k” it says unable to create directory-d instead of C: D: X: I’m missing D: what can I do?
While putting in wmic logiclaldisk where drivetype 3 get deviceid. volumename
I’m getting 3 - invalid alias verb.
Beautiful ❤️❤️ sir
D: drive dissapears after the second logical disk step? Doesn't let me copy the files then?
same here
Same here
@@balkiratbhangu3151 have you solved it
same. the caption says to use GPT format but the video continues in MBR
just tried both formats. still doesn't work
Make your C: drive bootable with following command:
d:
bootsect /nt60 d:
bootsect /nt60 d: /mbr
C drive is the partition file
D drive is USB
Thanks bro
at 3:12 after i type xcopy c: d: /e /h /k it says "unable to create directory - D:\
0 file(s) copied
Have same error. I only have two drives, c: which has no name and x: which is my boot drive. Confused, followed the link to the forum post and just applied the logic.
xcopied everything from flash drive to main SSD on PC.
Shut down PC and re-booted without flash drive and installer proceeded flawlessly!
Thanks so much!
@@MrLeGuel how did you do that?
@@cookiejoe5564 support.moonpoint.com/os/windows/commands/wmic/logicaldisk.php
you can use drivetype=2 to find your usb flash drive and then xcopy (usb drive letter): c: /e /h /k
@@user-vo6rm7me8k THANK YOU SO MUCH! I finally able to boot up my windows
@@user-vo6rm7me8k Hi! How do I reformat the partition so the computer stops booting into WIndows Installation Process?
if you have builtin hard drive write ,
wmic logicaldisk where drivetype=2 get deviceid, volumenam
Thanks
Thaaaaaaankkkkkkk youuuuuuu!
Appreciate this video. Followed your every step but after Administrator login window, the same error " Windows could not complete the installation........" error appeared. Back to zero!
I was able to boot using all the step on a macbook pro 2011. my problem now is an error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. I having a SSD on disk 0 where macos high sierra was installed and made a partition (EX-FAT) so I can install Windows 10. But unfortunately that said error is not allowing me to continue the windows installation. Any thoughts, suggestions> Thanks!!
Unfortunately, I only know that this step works for people with a custom built PC. I have never tried to solve this issue on a Macbook.
This steps can work only in a PC, because windows needs to use NTFS (windows file system), and macos use AFS (apple file system), im not sure because i recently start using windows again and now is more difficult to install, but maybe you can create a new partition to install windows there and try this steps only in this partition, or just use some virtual machine to install windows
When I say xcopy c: d: e/ h/ k/ it says file creation error can someone help me pls I have been trying install windows for days pls if you know how to do it reply to comment
It is very useful and I have done almost all steps. Now windows setup screen appear so here is the question: which type of Installation do you want? I chose advance and then I dont know the answer where do you want to install Windows? Partition 1 or Unallocated Space?
unallocated
Don't forget to remove the usd/dvd/cd after copying files and now boot from ssd/hdd wherever you copied the files.
i was facing the issue with a samsung 970 evo nvme, the motherboard is a gigabyte B360N, i tried make a lot of different ways to make a win10 boot usb and got another errors, i updates my BIOS , change the type of the ssd partition from mbr to gpt and from gpt to mbr, changed the CSM configuration and nothing of this works.
To my the @Revery Interactive way works, he recommend to create a new partition (9GB aprox) into the ssd and copy all the win10 boot source content into this new partition using the cmd, then restart and start the installation process from the partition not from the boot removable device. JUST REMEMBER TO use GPT instead of MBR.
My BIOS config : disable the CSM option and enable the UEFI options if your mobo has it.
I have your same drive and similar gigabyte motherboard. Coming from an hackintosh I wanted to switch to windows so after some errors I followed the guide of this video. After having followed all the steps, i remove the pen drive and restart the computer. But it doesn't boot the installation of windows and instead it shows "reboot and select proper boot device". Even in BIOS it doesn't show any UEFI boot (like it used with the USB pen connected). So I should install in legacy mode?
@@Andrea-ny6lf No sure if this info can help you, in my BIOS setup i have options:
"Windows 8/10 Features": WIndows 8/10
"CSM Support": Disabled
and follow the steps of the video
@@AlanChampi I just updated the gigabyte motherboard bios and everything worked flawlessly. Thanks :)
Solve the problem for me. Thanks for the instructions. *"MBR" works for me
couldn't get it to work with gpt, mbr like in the video worked
My computer is stuck on Leaving Diskpart
of course I wasn't able to get the same results even though I repeated dot to dot, after the command: get devideid , volumename , only X: Boot is displayed
Trying to do a clean install of Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire E15, using a 32GB Sandisk Memory Stick. Windows 10 downloaded from Microsoft Media Creation. Get to 0:54 when trying to run the command 'active' to make partition 1 active. This results in the message 'The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. the ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR disks. The overlay on the video told me to make it GPT not MBR?
and then changing the bootcode where mbr is replaced with GPT also failed.
you saved me from hell thanks
It all downloads fine until my pc gets the the finishing off part of the download and then I get the same message any advice?
Same with me
I don't have an "untitled" volume appear. All I see is an empty D: Volume and the X: Boot volume. Can any one help?
I think your PC wasn't able to read the format of your external flash drive or hard drive. I can't remember if it needs to be formatted as MS-DOS or ExFat
@@reveryinteractive does it matter if i dont have that untitled volume even if i dont tend to install anything there
Same - did you figure out what the issue was?
Did you guys figure it out?
For anyone having same issue but with win11 make sure u only have plugged in one disk on which ur installing windows.
Yea with me
stuck at xcopy c: /e /h /k
"Cannot perform a cyclic copy"

Any solution for this??
Do xcopy d: c:
If I get a windows key do I still need to download it through my solid state drive
I've never tried it. Hope it works for you.
@@reveryinteractive if that doesn’t work you have to go into a file and fix it

When u typed active u need the partition to be MBR but u said to type gpt not mbr
You're right. I forgot to edit that. It should be all GPT, not MBR
I recorded a few clips of my trial and error in this process. Unfortunately, my camera battery died when I got to the process when I solved this issue so I decided to use this footage that I was able to record. Initially, I wasn't planning on making this video because there were so many videos about this on CZcams, and how I fixed this issue might not work for everyone. But I decided to upload this video since I haven't seen a video like this on CZcams.
Bro please make a video like this because I am stuck at active . When I type active it says u need to be a fixed MBR partition but while converting the partition u said to do gpt conversion. Therefore I have doubts and it didn't worked for me please help me
@@reveryinteractive and most of I will subscribe ur channel and like all of your videos
@@PsychoJatt That's weird. I didn't run into that issue. Converting to gpt wasn't a problem for me. Unfortunately, I would need to do this on a fresh computer that hasn't installed windows yet. I'll see if I can find a PC computer to install windows and re-record it.
Bro just do as the video so mbr in stead of gpt it worked for me
Bro it dint worked my pc doesnt boot on setup
Do you have a custom built PC?
How far did you get in this process?
