A neighbor had an 18 inch cymbal stamped "Zildjian Constantinople" on it. It was SO trashy sounding, and dark. Super low pitched. The edge had dents in them, but no cracks. It was so dirty there was no way to clean it and make it shiny. My neighbor moved to Finland and left me that cymbal and an 18 inch floor tom.
I had no idea what I had, and just wanted to play hard rock. So I was only into Bright cutting cymbals, like a Sabian HH Rock Crash, or Zildjian Ping Ride.
When I gave up on drumming to go travel the world I sold it all. Somebody scored big.

They'd have been perfect when I was a kid, but now they are physically painful to play if I don't have my custom molded hearing protection in. How my hearing survived being a teenager without any hearing protection I will never know
As I look at transitioning from E-Drums (with volume knobs) to acoustics I'm pretty much only looking at darker cymbals these days.

I find it really interesting how some words are the same in English and in Dutch. For instance, you can translate "1911" almost exactly one on one, although you lose a bit of nuance in some contexts so you do have to be careful.
Anyway Aalst is a city in Belgium so it's technically not even dutch but Flemish

I adore the fact that Wade has channels for most of my special interests

It might be quiet but it's such a pleasent 'warm' sound.

I would totally use that on a jazz gig. Nice sound!

I'm not that into this sorta stuff, but i still watch it, purely because of Wade's fantastic energy. Love your work!

I love that old cymbal... but then you put that K Dark Ride up for comparison and I just start smiling, man. What a great cymbal and a sign of how far we've come.

I don't know why, but I love the rattle of the rivets so bloody much.

  • @Awkward_Fox

That cymbal sounds heavenly with the rivets! I can see those making a small comeback in jazz, or some other genres for that slightly rustic sound (Industrial anyone?)

  • @oygemprime3864

It's almost like a snare cymbal with the rivets rattling along. An interesting sound, to be sure.

Compared to that bright, cheerful little guy, that Dark Ride sure lives up to its name. The first time you went back to it from the antique I was actually kinda shocked.

The old symbol sounds great, if a bit quiet. That being said, I will never, EVER get over the amazing sound of the dark ride. So good.

Why is that? The sound seems to speak for itself. It is subtle and beautiful. Why do they not make them like this anymore?

Made good sonic sense with the riding pattern, but that bell… almost nonexistent. Quiet “jazzy” oddity

I love the timbre of it, it's just a travesty how little sustain it has thanks to the rivets.

I love the sound of that. With all the effects cymbals and stacks, this is a lovely color that needs to come back. It's like a sizzle crash-splash hybrid

I thought it was nuts how well it blended in with the rest of the kit the first time you played it however
WHEN THE ANCIENT CYMBAL WORKED WITH LEGALLY DISTINCT FROM BUT RESEMBLES CONGA AND KINDA SOUNDED WEIRD AND OUT OF PLACE IN THE TRAD JAZZ, INSANITY
