    its a shame so many teams had to leave these old grounds, they have so much history, character & atmosphere that the new grounds rarely have.

    Been an Everton supporter since 1968, I have seen many great games and good times at Goodison Park, especially the mid 80s but now this great old club is going through bad times both on and off the field, we need change and so I can't wait until we start a new chapter at our new ground at Bramley Moore Dock. Having watched the blues since the late 1950s it is great that this footage can show how wonderful stadium Goodison was. Ken mentioned the Goodison Road terracing the stretched under the main stand.
    It was accessed from turnstiles in Goodison Road from the park end to the Church end, and up stairs to reach to higher standing areas
    My late Father often took me under the clock high on the terrace were I first saw Bobby Collins Jimmy Harris Roy Vernon and Mickey Lill on the forward line. One regret is that any TV gantry was always on a cradle suspended from the Goodison Road stand, and we never had a TV mounted on the Bullens Road until the 70s
    The sight of the vast crowd that stood on the Goodison Road terrace was incredible. But no footage remains.
    My favourite speck in Goodison was the mid point, half way up in the old Park End stand. Seeing every part of he ground clearly.
    I recall seeing the great Alex Young give his finest ever display on a warm Wednesday evening in August 1965 when he scored a hat trick against a top Sheffield Wednesday team in a 5-1 win and who they would meet later that season in the FA Cup final, where Alex Young led the line with great skill that was often overlooked by Mike Trebilcock's exploits.
    Goodison in my opinion, is has iconic as the Centre Court at Wimbledon and Twickenham. given its place in the heritage of England's place as the home of football. The great PELE played his only competitive games in England at Goodison Park, a fact few fans seem to know about, And also you could walk around the ground to other areas in the early 60s and at the reserves games.

    I am not an Everton supporter But ... Goodison Park has been one of The Best Football Grounds in the country up to the end of the 1980s. It has hosted an F.A. Cup Final, many F.A. Cup Semies, Home International matches and World Cup Final Matches and of course its Everton's Home. Time and circumstances move on ... remember you left Anfield as the rent was far to high, and the landlord set up his own team! so you went across the park to Goodison. This time "You are On The Banks of The Royal Blue Mersey" and when travelers enter Liverpool on The Mersey, it will be Everton at the helm of The City! ... All The Best and I am proud to say I had a pivotal roll in securing your move.

      the same mistake as West Ham , Arsenal.... Also Goodison Park could be upgraded, expaned the west and south stand,...Now. loosing the soul, tradition, Pele played here, .loosing .the suburb, the roots interesting neighbourhood connection to Anfield stadium,...loosing the hill, just to get an instant steril stadium Bowl type like many others are today and positioned like many others today next to the sea or river . It is a interesting positon but in relationship to Goodison Park values it is nothing. It is a new type of shopping centre

      @merseydave1 Před 4 měsíci

      @@ljiljacucak Everton F.C. studied what could be done to enlarge Goodison Park, yet three sides of the ground are land locked. Yes they could enlarge The Park End but could do nothing with the rest of the ground, furthermore those parts of the ground are becoming outdated.
      That is why they have to move and Progress ... as I said, you will be "On The Banks of The Royal Blue Mersey" and at The Helm of The City!.

    I can't remember which side it was, almost certain it was the Main Stand, but my first game was in 1999 in a cup replay against Exeter City, seeing those floodlights for the first time will never leave me, the sight of Goodison now still makes me feel like that awestruck 7 year old even though I've had a season ticket for 17 years now. Brilliant video.

    I can't explain the feeling us Evertonians get when we walk into Goodison. I don't get there as often as I'd like but it feels me with pride and passion for my love of Everton. From a boy of 9 in 66 to the last time I visited aged 67. Once a blue always a blue. Nil satis nisi optimum

      Copyright in favour of Pathe News, which has a clip of that game YT.
      I was in the Gwladys Street stand that night still have the ticket stub. 5/6
      On it you see a remarkable incident when Alex Young centre goal shapes up the hammer a shot on goal, and Ian Callaghan runs straight across him, and Ref, Kevin Howley waved play on instead of a direct free kick for blatant obstruction. Thankfully it never altered the result.
      Everton were unlucky in the 1967 FA Cup year, beat Burnley Wolves top sides , Liverpool then lost at Notts Forest to a late goal. They finished runners up in the league that year.
