You’re sharp as a an old school mechanic; compliment deserved! These are old diagnostic practices before all the fancy diagnostic equipment became a crutch to most mechanics. Thanks for possibly saving many folks diagnostic charges in the hundreds of dollars by using these simple but effective tricks 👍🏼
This is the best and most simple explanation of cause and symptom of this issue that I found. You are excellent at keeping it simple for us non mechanics who like to try to fix their own issue. Thanks a lot!! 👍🏻👍🏻
My uncle just gave me a 2013 Nissan Sentra sv with brand new transmission. After having the transmission changed it started to shudder on taking off so he gave up and gave me the vehicle. I changed all coils and spark plugs after pulling the code p0304 or whatever I cant remember but once I changed out coils and spark plugs it purred like a kitten. 👍🏾😎
Good explanation. I have a misfire on 2016 Chevy Traverse, but it just gives me P300 (random misfire) I wish it would give me a specific cylinder code... Vehicle only hesitates/rough idle when it gets to operating temperature. When its cold in the morning, it runs fine for the first little bit of driving.
Can plugs or coils go intermittently bad at the end of their lifespan? Scanned my car and it gave me a “pending” code p0303 for cylinder 3 misfire. Now I turned it on again and the engine light is no longer flashing. It drives fine. Weird. Anyhow, I’m not sure if the Spark plugs or coils are bad, but maybe the mechanic can tell me and I could save money and not need to replace both plugs and coils. Good video 👍🏽
Good point. Coils do not all fail the same all the time. The coil on plug 'pencil' types are subject to much more heat than older designs and will often only misfire when warmed up.
& you given me a response back for likeing you materials, so now I'm subscribed, my sis will be & a few friends, so I say again Sir.. 'Thank you' you are great
Who ever reads this and having trouble telling if your car going out or about to turn off /1.make sure you have a new battery or alternator that can cause your car to turn off with no response just noise 2. Make sure you replace your head gasket and starter. head gasket will cause your car to turn off randomly at any given moment and you might panic thinking it won’t start but let it cool down then start it. bad starter going to be rough every time you start your car might be quick or the sound of your starter starting the car will definitely make your face expression change but if it’s to late for that warning then your car will turn off but you be Able to turn the power on but not the car itself unless you knock it with a hard item 3. Bad transmission or coils pack now this a tuff one because both problems have the same symptoms when you accelerate on the gas you will lose power in your rpm but I’m sure if you having a bad coil problem your signs in misfiring or slip in your rpm your acceleration will make you go slow then randomly speeds up bad transmission when your accelerating you down on power meaning if your driving 40 or 50 your car rpm will start to jump or start going down while your foot is on the gas paddle
Id just tear the motor down take head gasket out so it breaths well when put back together... Oh and file the rings down smooth before putting head back on
Thank you for so informative film. Is there any mileage after which you need to replace the Ignition Coils? And can faulty ignition coils prevent the alternator from charging? Update: It was burned Alternator. I've checked w/voltage between Alternator Harness and ground, it was ~ 5V, so the signal fm/ Power Control Module was going on Alternator. Looked like it was a failed Alternator, and it was. I fried the alternator performing one cleaning procedure for EGR Valve ports longer that advised in one film. The time interval to run the engine w/EGR Valve removed should be 2-3 sec, I saw film long time ago and mixed up, I thought 20 sec. When I counted to 10, I shut it off since Rpms went to 4000, it was very loud sound, and a smell of burning. I thought it is carbon particles are burned, but it was the alternator. After I replaced it the problem was solved. Not big deal, but I'm surprised why the fusible link between the Starter and Alternator survived, but the alternator was burned? Can someone tell for how many Amps you use a fusible link for the alternator on 90 Amps. I've read that usually you go with 20% higher Amps, so for 90 Amps alternator it should be 118 Amps. They sell 100Amps fusible links, but I'm not sure about those 20%. They also sell 80 Amps, but you don't won't to go too low, since your alternator can get disconnected too often. Can't find that info anywhere, so I would really appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thank you for this informative film and attention to my questions. It helped me to zero down the problem.
Usually ignition coils should last beteeem 50,000-100,000 miles. To answer the second question, a bad ignition will not prevent the alternator from charging. It's unrelated.

I had a bad coil yet when I scan the car no code
What about p2A00
So I am trying to figure if I didn’t gap my plugs properly of if my coils are failing because every morning when I go to start my car it’s rough but when I warm it up and start driving the symptoms go away I recently changed my spark plugs and the battery on my Dodge dart I have regapped my spark plugs three times and it’s still starting rough engine feels like it’s shaking
Did you figure out what was wrong?
@@adamchanez7470 I did it was bad motor mount and I wasn’t supposed to gap pre gapped plugs so I had to buy new ones. Now I have a bad control arm problem
@@metalmindedmaniac2587why would you ever gap a pre gapped plug lol. I wouldn’t trust any pre gapped anyways, always better to gap yourself so you know it’s your fault if it fails then adjust it. Pre gapped also more expensive.
@@ihavegoodmusic9496 I’m not a mechanic I don’t know the difference between pregapped plugs and not didn’t even know they existed always checked the gaps according to the manufacturer specs. I work on my own shit these days more because I don’t trust shops nor dealerships unless it’s a big problem like transmission or engine rebuild I’ll fix my car so I can see what the problems are and I can learn.
i pulled my ignition coil and it came out with the other half stuck and the middle spring
Why is there no explanation for testing the resistance of the ignition coil with a multimeter?
