- Renée Zellweger discussed with Ellen what it was like getting into character to play Judy Garland in the new movie, “Judy.” The star admitted to getting real stage fright, and how it was good that she was able to capture a real representation of Judy’s fatigue by using prosthetic makeup.

Renee Zellweger is the third actress to play Judy Garland to win for acting award since Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis for which they both Emmy Award for Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.
I weirdly teared up as Renee came out and danced -- like she maybe for the first time in public "took up space" and enjoyed herself for the first time. I became a fan at that moment.

I'm a boomer and grew up watching Judy Garland in movies and on television. Renee Zellweger's performance of Judy blew me away. Felt like Judy had never left us. Definitely hope Renee gets Oscar for best actress!

In my country of origin a TV set was considered a luxury for years, especially during the economic crisis of the 1980s when the shops were completely empty. My middle-class parents managed to buy one in the late 1970s; I remember watching films which starred Astaire and Kelly. Similarly, in the Soviet bloc, at least east of the Elbe, American films were either a big no-no for decades or simply unavailable so only few people knew or cared who Garland was; it changed in the 1990s, of course.
