  • There are two very popular and BIZARRE restaurants in Disney's Hollywood Studios - Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater and 50's Prime Time Cafe. Both are very immersive, both bring you back in time, both are long, expensive meals. But which is better? Are either worth a visit? Come with Molly to find out - it's gonna be nifty.

My son had a bad allergic reaction on his Disney Birthday trip to the non-dairy milkshake there and OMG Nick is the BEST! he was sooooo caring and so sweet and so worried for my son. I’ve always wanted to go to Sci-Fi Dine In, but never could get a reservation. The food looked delicious and I’m sure the theming is a lot of fun, but I feel like strangers in your car with you might take away from the fun for me. I love 50s Primetime though! My parents love it, and we always have gone on family trips. They feel like they’re back in their own childhoods and my dad totally plays it up with the server. I took friends my age there a few years ago and they totally weren’t feeling the vibe. Our server gave up on the whole act when he saw everyone else didn’t want to engage in it, so that was a bummer and it made me feel really bad for the server who was trying to have fun with us.

we ate at both last week and enjoyed Sci Fi more than Prime Time. The turkey sandwich at Sci Fi was really good and on a croissant. It was our first time there and we would eat there again for sure! My husband said the salmon pasta was good too. The environment was fun. We had the backseat of a car and it was just fine as they do have a plastic windshield between the front and back seat. The windshield also helped block their conversation from us, so it wasn't too intrusive being seated in the same car as strangers. The Prime Time Cafe was fine. We've eaten there twice before and enjoyed it, but it just wasn't as tasty as past times. My husband got the sampler platter just as Molly did and did like it. I had the chicken Caesar salad and it had a whole chicken breast instead of chunks of chicken. It was weird and taste was off. My first choice on our next trip will be Sci Fi.

It was something my husband wanted to do for a birthday treat and my young daughter loved the fun atmosphere and eating in a car (we had our own car). We had a nice streak dinner at the end of our park day, so it was fun and relaxing. Probably won’t do it again, but it was a great experience. I can’t see us trying the Prime Time 50’s though unless we happen to bring Grandma and Grandpa with us. My daughter wouldn’t enjoy the antics and paying extra/spending time for just comfort food doesn’t appeal to me.

Only disappointment was that our server was a bit of a dud, putting little to no effort into the “act” I was expecting based on descriptions, and compared to what we witnessed from other servers there. So, not all experiences are going to be equal in that regard. I’d still recommend it though, especially if you’re looking for non-ride options to fill your DHS day.

I love the atmosphere at Prime Time, my absolute favorite. Now that I have teenagers tho, they will eat NOTHING there and they absolutely love the food and ambiance at Sci Fi so thats our go to

I love 50's Prime. They have the best fried chicken.

Hey Molly! Is it possible to do a pasta throw down with Trattoria El Forno against other restaurants? I really enjoyed 50s Prime Time. I've never tried SciFi but maybe next trip.

Molly, what’s the comparison on the peanut butter and jelly milkshake to the strawberry peanut butter ice cream from Fortescue’s?

50's is my must do. Didn't care for Sci-fi, too dark. I like to see what I'm eating.

How did I not know about the cheese?? I definitely prefer 50's over Sci-Fi. We went to Sci-Fi a couple of years ago and our meal was awful. My kids never wanted to go back. 50's is always a good time though!

I went to the Sci-fi in 1994, my food was so bad, I never wanted to try again as an adult. I’ve been to the 50’s cafe twice, pleasant, but I’m good now.

Sci-fi was a one and done for us. We actually did a walk up one afternoon in the before times. We were sat back at the tables, which was fine, the food was o.k. but we don't need to do it again. We've done 50s a couple of times but it's way too much and too heavy food for me. I'm not a fan of the banter either, I do like the decor reminds me of Granny's house. Tune In Lounge, on the other hand, we do often. Our favorite is HBD both inside and the outside lounge. We eat there at least once every trip.

Definitely a repeaters if you are with someone who has not done the restaurant before…especially 50’s Prime Time (don’t warn them about the “antics”) 😉

I enjoy both restaurants, BUT I prefer prime time for the service. My son ordered a drink that did not include refills so he switched to orange soda. Our server, patty, brought out 4 drinks for him and then had other servers continue to bring out several drinks for him at a time. The following morning, we had breakfast at topolino's terrace and our server was not very friendly, my son said "she's definitely no patty"

As an anxious introvert, I'd prefer the Sci-fi Dine In.
