    I suffer from terrible back and nerve damage due to a climbing accident years ago. Baths really help give me some rare relief so about 4 years ago I designed a laptop shelf for my bath as well. I did put rails on the bottom for stability and I also made the non-wall side stick over the bath 2 inches and cut a handle in it to make it easy to remove and hang up when not in use. I made it out of cedar and for the past 4 years it has been used at least twice a week, hasn't warped once and smells awesome when the hot steam hits the cedar wood :-)

    Some flush-mounted neodymium magnets on the bottom edges might be nice for metal tubs.

    Hey April. You're on the right track. After all that hard work you need some R&R. Anyway, I wanted to mention that when you were using the lighter to pop the bubbles in the epoxy there is another way that won't burn. Sure the manufacturer will suggest using a torch but a decent heat gun (same kind you've probably used to strip paint) works super well. I make domino playing game tables and I pour epoxy in the center to protect the art on the playing surface. A heat gun is my best friend. Can't wait to see the next video for your Uber workshop!

    Omg. EASILY the best bath caddy I’ve seen. So many personal touches. I’m a fan of the spar urethane too. No one ever “plans” for all the moisture, but if it’s going to sit over a tub with liquids on top, why not prepare for the inevitable.

    I like this no matter what, it just a well though out piece and engineered good. I fallen from over 70 feet up over four times in 56 yrs and my joints have there days. I also been hit by motor vehicles a couple of times, not my fault in a cross walk just crazy speeders. Long bathes and very hot herbal soaking keeps the pain & doctor away. Keep up the good work April Wilkerson.

    Nice job, I actually laughed my ass off at the shot of the plywood over the tub. The walnut did look great.

  • @dougsweldingfabrication953

    I had to laugh at the old piece of plywood technique :-) This is like the mechanic who never has time to repair his own car. Everything he works on is awesome, but he never takes the time for his own stuff. Nice upgrade... I know you mentioned that the side to side movement isn't an issue, but with the expensive electronics on board, I would suggest a couple simple blocks of teflon mounted to the underside. They will not mar the tub, and will keep the caddy in place. Ask me how I know :-)

    Coming from the IT field, just be aware the high humidity conditions will shorten the life of your devices unless they are IP(X) rated.
    On the actual design, it's very attractive! Since you treated it, I'm sure it'll give you a long working life. Perhaps, Ipe, Teak, Red Cedar if you go untreated next time for something for wet conditions.
    Cheers!

    • @davidlenton2366
      @davidlenton2366 Před 6 lety

      ALAPINO. Even if it were IP66 you would still get the damage you mentioned. We use computers that are tropicalised to prevent damage from high humidity.

      Noooooo! I've been wanting to take a hot bath watching a movie with my ipad. Just wondering if the bathroom fan is enough to keep the humidity from shortening the life of my devices?

    • @ALAPINO
      @ALAPINO Před 4 lety

      @@whoDatBeDare There are a handful of reputable companies that make good cases, but they're expensive and bulky. Splash bags/dry bags/beach bags, lockable bags used to protect your devices from water are fine for bath-time movie watching, relatively inexpensive. If you're on a budget, freezer zip-lock bags work in a pinch. Just make sure the zip-lock bag is still airtight, sealed up well.

    I think the best part of that is the way you made the sliding adjustable kindle holder That if you ever get rid of your kindle and get some other sized tablet it would probably fit because it slides to adjust to different sizes. Awesome job April!

  • @billb825
    @billb825 Před 6 lety

    Great project! Here are a couple of thoughts that popped into my head watching. Seemed high, so maybe make rails with the center part 2-3 inches lower, and this will double as a "lock" so it can't slip to your left and fall in. Also, angle it mildly/5ø so any splashes roll off (down toward your, um, skull). Router off 1/4" all edges you expect to touch. Definitely need a solid bottom. I second the tealight candle cutouts. Love how you handled the Kindle cutouts for straight and angled, and the slide. I haven't taken a bath since I was 6, but may have to make one for milady. Awesome job.

    Electricity will always take the easiest route to ground: From plug through appliance and water to grounded drain pipe - no danger, 1 volt or a hundred. Where the danger lies is holding the appliance out of the water, especially as you enter or exit the tub - forcing the electricity to travel through you to complete the circuit.It is similar when a high power cable touches your car . Expert advice: stay in the car, electricity travels though the metal body - until you step out, then through you (rubber tires make good insulators) to ground and you will burn. So long as you are not part of the "wire" you are safe.
