  • Footage of Mariinsky Ballet First Soloist Maria Khoreva at age 14. She graduated from the Vaganova Academy in 2018, graduation class of Lyudmila Kovaleva.
    I apologize for the poor quality; CZcams made the videos grainy. In the ballet class footage, Maria is the one under the painting.
    All of these videos belong to Maria Khoreva. None belong to me. They were found in Maria’s early Instagram posts.

      Unfortunately I can’t say I disagree with you there. However, just in my experience, a lot of younger dancers do tend to focus on technique. Makes sense as they typically haven’t had much life, world or stage experience at that age. It’s usually in the corps de ballet that they start to develop stage presence and understand character. Maria’s high level of technique seemed to let her bypass the corps stage, but I have hope. She’s young and has plenty of time to improve - as well as world class Mariinsky coaching, which I imagine helps lol.

    It seems like she wasn't in pointe shoes until she was 14/15. At least she wasn't wearing them for some (or all) of her exam. I think Americans put dancers into pointe shoes way too early, before their feet and ankles are really strong enough. Some girls as young as 11 or 12 are in pointe shoes when their bones simply aren't strong enough. I know girls can't wait for pointe shoes, but too early can lead to injuries and poor form.

    • @udkeljdkla1414
      @udkeljdkla1414 Před rokem +1

      Or maybe you’re simply and extremely wrong. The Vaganova academy puts girls in pointe during their first year in which they are all 10-11 years old, all the girls no matter if they have done ballet before or not work in flat shoes the first half of the year, after an exam in which they evaluate the girls they put them on pointe for the second half of the year, the ones who fail the exam because of lack of technique or strength are expelled. The first and second year are simple exercises on pointe which enhance the strength of the toes, the real rough stuff begins in the third year.
      Absolutely all the exams in each grade have exercises and combinations on pointe, there’s always an order and that is exercises at the bar, center in flat and finally center in pointe, this happens in ALL GRADES, you’ve clearly haven’t even bother to look at a complete exam before giving you’re opinion students of a professional school that has been doing this for centuries. The whole debate about what is the proper age to put girls on pointe is complicated, 11 will always be the best age to start with girls who have already been dancing for years, Vaganova for example is able to accept students who haven’t gotten a single ballet class before and are completely new to ballet, so as I said before they work for half a year in strength and proper technique, then present the said exam and the best girls who approve the exam will be introduced to pointe, the ones who fail and are simply not good enough or can’t catch up will be expelled instead of putting them on pointe. And as always, It depends on the person and the school, a girl who has natural good arches and learns quickly will be put in pointe faster than a girl who could have been doing ballet for a while, but is naturally weak in her feet and needs more time to learn, and of course you can’t compare Vaganova training to a local ballet school in your city,
