      This optical actually IS "shake to wake", just bought it, used it, & loved it. I was confused if it was "shake to wake" after going to the gun shop yesterday, because they told me "just shake it & it comes on", but after research online I THOUGHT maybe it wasn't. Needless to say I went back to buy it & asked about it again if it was "shake to wake" & they said yes & showed me again. I have the Holosun SCS MOS-GR for Glock 19 as of today, bought brand new, it will "shake to wake".

    I’ve had the SCS mounted on my Walther PDP for almost 2 years now. It’s always on. Always ready. Always charged. And I don’t get to go shooting anywhere near as often as I like but when I do, it’s obviously charging it plenty. I zeroed it when I got it. It hasn’t shifted with coming up on 4,000 rounds and rough use from training classes. (I’m ashamed to say my gun has even been dropped a couple times in class 🤷🏼‍♂️) Another thing ‘m impressed with is it’s auto brightness. I’ve see other optics that have auto brightness feature and they are terrible. Indoors they can be too dim. Outdoors in daylight the SCS may be kind of bright. In sunlight it may look like a 4 MOA dot. But in the grand scheme of things in a self defense situation, not a big deal at all. In fact, I actually like a very slight bit of bloom outdoors. But indoors, it nails the brightness level at different light levels from room to room.

    Great explanation! I don’t understand why people question the battery life. This is why you purchased a reliable brand and paid up for a quality optic. They’re not going to make a product that doesn’t work when you need it.

    • @shadowballen6463
      @shadowballen6463 Před 17 dny +2

      no one does it intentionally, but it is possible that it wont work. a replaceable battery is a controllable factor... I think the issue is ( at least to me) is why am i paying for an optic that will die and cannot replace the battery and is the same price or slightly more than an optic from the same company with 2x the life and replaceable battery. Good observation though.

    • @potemapote
      @potemapote Před 12 dny +1

      @@shadowballen6463 I completely agree! A battery that is being recharged by sunlight is a great idea, until you need to replace it. There is no such thing as unlimited battery, because all things degrade over time, batteries (especially) included. There's no battery with infinite recharge-cycles. Also, the way you recharged the battery (frequency, duration, level of charge, etc) are going to matter a lot to that life's battery.
      So at some point, regardless of use, it's going to underperform (putting it nicely) and it's a dead optic at that point.
      If you're willing to use the heck out of it for a few years and then move on to something better, great! More power to ya!
      But for all us regular joes that don't hit the range that often (because life), this idea isn't all that good. My 2c.

    So the solar receivers actually charge the battery? What is the chemistry of the battery? If it is lithium ion, then I think it would be damaged by allowing it to get below freezing (32F) and then exposing it to sunlight (charging) while it is below 32F.
