Created in 1977, The World's Strongest Man™ has become the premier event in strength athletics. I've been watching WSM every year since 1981 when I was a wee kid and Mariusz is still the best I've ever seen
Mariusz is absolutely a beast. He's clearly the best of all time in this competition.
He's great but he should of lost that last event. Jon Paul is the best!

He has probably a myostatin deficit, like Försterman the German cyclist. Otherwise, he could not gain this much lean muscle without large amounts of steroids.

Derek Poundstone almost beat the greatest WSM ever in his rookie year 💯🔥💪🏽
And he was also runner up at the Arnold classic that year and he also won multiple events on the strongman circuit that year. It was his best year of competition and one of the only two people to beat him was Pudz. The dude was so close to the perfect year.
Really a shame for him not being the champion of that year, but he faced the best, the legend in his favorite event: the Atlas Stones!
Poundstone should have won because of the injury Mariusz had to his calf
Yeah... but Mariusz had a calf injury and still won. If he wasn't injured he would've won before the final event just like he did in 3 of his 5 wins. Mariusz's mental strenght was no joke.
Pudzilla. The most legendary contest in the history. Decades will pass before anyone gets 5 titles. Centuries before someone will snatch 6. And we lived in times this once happened. For the first time, 5 titles.

@@hankheavy well, Arnold Classic isn't that prestigious, on WSM you have to perform under big pressure and show mental strenght too. So a true strongman will perform the best under the biggest pressure. Man trained 5 hours a day and all the other guys looked like fat daddies next to him, he deserves his respect and not people mentioning Big Z whenever Pudzian comes up

I just gotta say how much I appreciate the channel for uploading all the classic past years of WSM. This is a great way to preserve the history on modern platforms and bring in new fans. I was a sophomore in HS when this aired lol

They always seem to show a lot of the pulling events. I'm not a fan. I'd rather see them pull a 2000lbs rock up a hill.
It wasn't nice of Pudzianowski to celebrate in front of Poundstone and interrupt his lift, but he was in such an euphoric state he didn't even realize it

Yeah I think 2006 was the only one he lost himself. 2009 he wasn't good enough to beat big z.

I absolutely love this competition every year. I've been watching since 2002. I gotta say it's one of my top 5 favorite sports. These guys are excellent competitors and really put a lot of hard work in. I love how they show great sportsmanship and root for each other.

Okay. This was like 15 years ago. Watching this, I didn't know who won it, but I was pulling for Mariusz in the last two events. When I saw he won, I was yelling like "YES!!".

I think Kaz could've had 6, 7, or 8 if they decided to invite him back after his reign of terror. That's the only other person that could probably claim best to ever do it.

Maybe but if that was the case than pudz would have gone longer, and would have trained for the 09 instead of mma. He would have won 6 in 09, probably pushed out some more in the 2010s, since he was in his early 30s.
Yeah, In the 81 I think Kaz deadlifted 900 and some odd and looked like he could have done waaaay more.

After that competition, that boy from the USA did not do much in other events. Pudzianowski demonstrated once again that he is the best, and that it was not his best presentation on his best days, not even Big Z could beat him
In all fairness that boy from America lives in a country where steroids are illegal which means to have them he might pay 3000$ a month, while in Europe steroids are legal. Mariusz probably a state funded athlete, like Ivan Drogo

Pudzianowski was very lucky too, the best strongmen of those days left WSM and joined IFSA during the period 2005=07.
Had Big Z and Vasil Virastyuk been there , the results would have been quite different, even Phil Phister came back from IFSA and won the title in 2006.
The car walk highly favors the shorter guys like Mariusz but nowadays I'm pretty sure they changed it to the yolk walk and it has adjustable bar height

Back in the day my tv sports network would slot in WSM after NHL or NBA. If the game went beyond the usual time we wouldn't get WSM. That was always a disappointment. Now I don't have cable but I can watch it on youtube.

Bloody hell that was close, Poundstone so unlucky at the end.
It was just a lack of patience. You could see Pudz took his time on the 4th stone and 5th. He made sure his grip was there. Pound stone expected the stone to roll using the corner of the platform in adverse conditions. Simply put, pound stone let his fear of failure dictate his strategy
@@moretestmorebreasts2218 Agreed. Lack of patience and rookie mistake. It had rained a little bit before the final and the stones were slippery. Poundstone got desperate in the end and Mariusz's patience and experience won him the final despite having a calf injury.
How much the atlas stones in WSM become heavier by the years or didnt they?
They spoiled all these by putting the winner the the thumbnail! A lot of people are watching it because they've never seen it, or hadn't seen in a long time, can't remember who won, and want to re-experience it.

Pudzianowski rok wcześniej w podobny sposób zrobił ostatnie powtórzenie , to sędziowie nie zaliczyli , bo niezgodne z przepisami, a tu proszę. Jednak jakaś sprawiedliwość go dosięgła na kulach 🤪
