@@ub3rfr3nzy94 Red Skelton made a joke decades ago about all the construction cranes in London. He said it would be a great city once they finish it.
London, like the universe, is in a state of constant expansion.
It’s because it’s an ancient city and has LOTS of obsolete designs and structures. It needs constant updating for modern times. I mean most of the roads until recently didn’t have the capacity to have two side by side cars even.
There used to be an effort to try maintain the character of London and not turn it into yet another skyscraper city. That went out the window under Boris and there's been an orgy of construction since
For all the people confused about the Irish Passport: He told in a Q&A that the moved to the UK (then still EU) because of his Irish passport he got through family.
thats not why ireland is the only country that has freedom of travel between the uk
And handily, Ireland has an arrangement with the UK that predates either country’s entry into the EU that allows their citizens to live and work in either country. He won’t be affected by Brexit, so that’s nice.
I was about to comment on that! An American (I think?) with an Irish passport, living in England.

Aye from HGVs turning left into them. Where was that bin lorry going to turn?
Although I would have done the same in that situation, I was surprised to see Grey do that given how risk averse he seems to be. It's a stark contrast to the video where he made a huge deal about how dangerous it was that he drove down a highway at night one time.

London in his video looks so much better than I imagined. I thought it would be another NY just with fish and chips. Now I really want to visit it.
It's really, completely different from NY in many ways. I like both, but there's a history and elegance to London as it's a much older city. Lots of green spaces, too. The tall buildings of NY are impressive in their own way, but everything's packed in very close together and it's way more intense.
I think London is the second most unique looking city, right after Hong Kong.

@@beinzheans3918 You can get shanked in every city in the world :)
Imagine cutting someone off in traffic and never even knowing it was Grey.
Um. Grey appeared out of nowhere. He shouldn't have been going down the left side of that stationary truck and if he was going to do it, he should have slowed down.
@@beeble2003 is that local law? Grey was fully in the right according to my local law
@@firstname405 Legally, in the UK, it's a bit of a grey area (no pun intended). If the cyclist is counted as a separate lane of traffic, it's legal to pass on the left; if he's not counted as a separate lane, it's not legal.
But I wasn't talking about the law, I was talking about practical matters of safety. As they say, "The right of way is not a right worth dying for." Passing that way is dangerous for three reasons:
1. if the traffic lights change, the truck will start moving; if it moves to the left, the cyclist could get crushed;
2. if the truck is waiting to let somebody turn across his path, that vehicle will potentially hit the cyclist (this is more or less what happened, though it looks like the scooter was pushing his way through a narrow gap to use the left lane even though he wasn't going left);
3. even if nothing goes wrong immediately, passing the truck means the truck will have to overtake again after the lights, and being overtaken (especially by wide vehicles that can't give you a lot of space) is one of the most dangerous times for cyclists.
He was wearing his hexagon schwag... I believe I'd click to that... in London... on a bike.
@@beeble2003 I'm a little puzzled since it seems legit and safe to me. 1. The truck must signal before changing lanes and be aware of who is to his left. 2. Whoever is crossing in front of the truck does not have the right of way for oncoming traffic. They must look around the truck before proceeding. 3. Being overtaken is to be expected on roads for bikes. You stay to your left (or right in the US) and hope for the best.
All that said, your points on safety are correct. I HAVE been hit by an overtaking truck that didn't see me and left me just 18 inches between the curb and the truck. I hit pickup truck's sideview mirror with my elbow and the curb. I blew out my front tire and got a baseball-sized hematoma on my elbow. No other harm though. The driver stopped and called the police and I got nice restitution for my damages from his insurance. He got a ticket. He was supposed to give me 3 feet, (a meter) in the lane.
