Wow, thanks for sharing this, I have just started with my ADHD diagnosis, Diagnosed with ASD a few years ago, I relate to everything you said in this video, the thing that stuck the most is the business side of things, I have always said I need someone to do it for me as I struggle with it, but always felt like a failure not being able to do it, so thank you for making me feel like I am not a failure.

Cheers Keith -it's a hard road, but knowing what's behind it does help. :)

    Well, snap! Hello, relatable human.
At 45 I'm a few months into my diagnosis and medication for ADHD (although I knew for some years I never properly pursued dx until recently). Sounds like I'm further toward "inattentive" vs "hyperactive" than yourself, but 90% of what you describe had me chuckling along in recognition, including the ASD elements :-) For me I come home with a few hundred frames, probably a few keepers, and then they'll stay there on my hard-drives, never to see the light of day! It takes a very deliberate effort to do the "sharing" bit once the excitement and novelty of the capture (and possibly the processing) has worn off. Or procrastinating until I have a better "system" for publishing work. Baby steps 🙂

Hey Ashely - sorry for the late reply - but I've just discovered this Comments section inside CZcams studio and found your reply. What is it with ADHD and systems? Have to contrive some weird multi-step process to do the simplest thing just because that's easier than actually doing the thing!

Great video our 6yo is asd2 so I can relate to your post, your videos which we came across quite by accident as we are looking at drones for our planned big lap in 2024 . Love your videos and humour , and although was a keen photographer back when I was a teen , haven't touched a real camera for years , but watching these has got me keen again. So thank you

    Great video Andy.
I have just been diagnosed with ADHD, rather 100% AD only 30% HD. In fact I was supposed to be watching a workshop about business for photographers but I find myself watching videos on ADHD photography instead, the irony 🤦‍♂
ADHD ruined my career as Scientist as though I was able to hyper-focus on a problem and come up with novel solutions it took ungodly effort to write publications and grants, particularly as I was continually discovering new avenues of interest to explore in the lab. In 2019, I rediscovered photography and that put the final nail in the coffin my chemistry career, as I was uncontrollably distracted from chemistry or rather totally focused on photography (pun intended). Since then I have taken a few courses, improve my photography significantly and start a dog photography business, if you can call it. Anyway what you were saying about your approach to photography and the business challenges you face ring true for myself, thank you for sharing.

Thanks Phillip. We do indeed face a unique set of challenges, but it's awesome that you've found a niche that tickles the old dopamine centres in the right way. :)

as a photojournalist - despite what the haters may say - my ADHD serves me well in this role.
One thing I have noticed is that I have no problem putting myself into dangerous situations with the calmness of yogi master. While others are freaking out, it is just another day of "normal" for the adhd brain, lol.

yup you described my photography perfectly. The only times I remotely plan are for astrophotography, and I shoot everything I think looks good, which is a lot.

Bloody hell. EVERYTHING you said was so relatable.
I literally just drive around sometimes and stop and take a shot and then move on.
Some days I go out, take a few pics quickly that Im happy with, and then bugger off home 🤣🤣

I also call ADHD photography - reactive photography. And add aphantasia to the mix - can’t imagine things either. What I can’t see does’t exists ;-)
