Grateful Dead was supposed to play, but Garcia band Fills in at Shoreline after Mydland mainlined a bit too much smack and blow...very good show actually...
Amen, to you all - look @ Jerry's face - he is suffering- I absolutely love him to death - hope we all see him & his friends in the promise land & all are playing even with my daddy & mama - that would break my heart - I second that emotion - Amen, again
I saw the Dead more times than I can remember (never once after Jerry passed) but JGB Shows were always so special. Jerry always seemed more relaxed and so comfortable with the smaller band. They were nights I hold dear and at the time enjoyed so very much.
If you feel like giving me a life time of devotion, I second that emotion. Dedicated to my dog, Chili Dog! ❤ A dog will love it's owner for its entire lifetime.
Brents passing was untimely. Then Jerry, It all fell apart for me. saw Jerry at Eastcoast shows, everything from a few hundred people to full stadiums. on Broadway also. first show was Englishtown dead 75 I think. miss it now I play it all on guitar keys and more.
To imagine , Jerry's dear soul had to go through this stuff far too many times losing a friend way too soon and then had to go out on stage to entertain all of us , just so we could forget about our troubles for one night . When someone in the act dies , the show must go on . They all had big shoes to fill , it's a tough act to follow . It's funny though , nobody seemed to learn anything from death , folks still "OD"ing to this day . Talent lost way too soon .
It's actually pretty easy. Just play your guitar 16 hours a day for 30+ years and you can do it too :) not down playing your observation I fully agree. I saw Merle Saunders a couple years after Jerry passed at a bar in WI, and the lead guitarist was incredible, during break me and my bud ran into the dude and offered him a joint, Exclaimed what a great guitar player he was, and he said you can do it too, just spend two years playing 16 hours a day, that is what I am doing! Got to look up who that was some day... anyway keep on keeping on...
That is a damn good point. Jerry would laugh when asked about the "new guy" and often respond..."new guy? He's been part of the band longer than most bands are together!" I sure miss them, especially JG. Have a grate day, Jack
Hi Deadheads, On Thurs nite, the anniversary of Jerry's passing,I went to Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael,CA. It is Phil's new dinner/club.The music was Phil and "family" and it was incredible. I miss Jerry and the music continues. Jack
First Dead show was my 18th birthday then 2-3 years later found The JGB and was following my new favorite band because Jerry still the best on the guitar and banjo
Right. For context: "On September 1, 1990, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, the Jerry Garcia band performed a particularly poignant kind of magic. A Grateful Dead show was originally scheduled for that date but was cancelled due to the untimely death of the Dead's brilliant, passionate keyboard player, Brent Mydland, in late July. Rather than cancel the gig, the Jerry Garcia Band stepped in to deliver one of their most heartfelt performances."
I was at this show. It's 100% correct that it was scheduled to be a Dead show. The Shoreline is a bigger venue than the JGB typically played. It was fun.
Loudest I ever heard Kahn was Ventura 1992, the night before Jerry's 50th birthday at Irvine. Even the audience recordings couldn't handle it! 1) Second That Emotion 2) He Ain't Give You None 3) Think 4) Rueben and Cherise Etc ..... Best Shining Star ever to open second set
Damn I love JGB. There is NO sadness allowed during JGB. my biggest regret in this 50 year old life is never seeing JGB live. Plenty of dead shows. sigh. Kahn looks like he weighs 98 lbs
@ Leon Ramsay Reggae, perhaps - reggae into rock n roll into jazz into reggae into jazz and more jazz and reggae into Motown - the combinations are endless and JERRY GARCIA plays every one of them 👏👏👏
@murda187ism Jerry Garcia Band 9/1/90, Shoreline Amphitheater, Set 1 - How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), Stop That Train, Dear Prudence, I Shall Be Released, Run for the Roses, My Sisters and Brothers, Deal. Set 2- I Second That Emotion, Think, And It Stoned Me, Waiting For A Miracle, Don't Let Go, That Lucky Old Sun (Just Rolls Around Heaven All Day), Tangled Up in Blue.
The fabulous Gloria Jones and Jackie LaBranch. Gloria passed away last week sadly. Voice of an Angel, may she rest in peace. Just a note thats Melvin Seals. Like Merle hes got a smile that won't quit 😀
You know what Tito? This is the second or third video you've shared where your main comment in the description box is more than a bit crass. You do know that when you posted this Brent's girls were still pretty young and likely to come across your insensitive comment. It's a shame that I've got to say adios to your content. Great taste in music Sir, but you aint got an ounce of class.
They played this in Portland, lovely song ... but to know it was a cover show for the Dead due to "the shit" makes it and Jerry's smiles all the more enjoyable entertainment. He is smiling!
@ckorsgaard Truth hurts. Not only was he accosting friends of mine in hotel bars while being married, he was doing speedballs constantly, and had ambulances called to his house in lafayette a few times to revive him from near death. And he was a really good musician, and an integral part of the band, they were never the same after he died, but lets not live in pretend land, eh?
I can’t get enough Jerry and Melvin.
jerry and Melvin had amazing chemistry... very fun to watch... can't wait to see these two play together when we make it to the promised land!!
Jerome Garcia me neither brother, me neither
This is what my heaven sounds like. Add in a little Brent and it would be true paradise.

Some of the best shows of My Life absolutely
This iteration of JGB is my favorite. I mean thirty years on and it still makes me smile. Chemistry was there for sure.
I just don't get tired of watching this.
Dave Poon They did a tribute to him at Merriweather, here in Columbia, Maryland last night! Non stop joy from 7:PM to 11:30PM!
If you feel like giving me a life time of devotion, I second that emotion. Dedicated to my dog, Chili Dog! ❤
A dog will love it's owner for its entire lifetime.
The inter-play between Melvin and Jerry is something special.
This is hands down the best show i have on DVD. I highly recommend it...
I dont understand who would put a thumbs down on this video.

How could a person not adore this?
Jerry and Jackie's voices lend themselves particularly well to eachother

Jerry at his best! Smilin and jamming! Thanks for the share and thank you for the music. I SECOND THAT emotion!
This is blowing my damn mind! Beautiful.

I love Jerry's head bob. He looked truly happy.

I am glad you understood what Jerry was going through - I bet he had a lot on his mind that nobody knew..
we should listen to the music and be thankful! what a true blessing!
How Jerry does what he does without looking at the fretboard is astonishing.
@NLTDB3S
Years of playing and practicing!

But how sick would be to go to a concert expecting to see the Dead, then instead get a surprise JGB show....I would be stoooooooked hahah
The comment about Brent is extremely disrespectful and tasteless. That being said, thanks for uploading this.
