3000 years of technical improvements in the manufacture of steel. Its amazing how critical it is to modern living.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
absolutely right.
Steel only 200 odd yrs old with few exceptions.
This video is why im an operator and not a mechanic. I get to sit in the control room and push buttons while the maintenance guys do the hard work. Keep it up guys. (I work in water treatment, class A operator)
It's got it's ups and downs. Ups especially when nothing's broke... Sweet break room (it even has A/C!)
Its all good till that damm taphole sont open and you gotta go down and lance for hours
God bless mike row for keeping the blue collar man in the eye of the worlds view!!!! 🇺🇸💪
This is good. We should be proud of our industry again.
Dump gasoline on ground before running squashed rig into grinder.
1982, I was assistant to CEO of a US metal company. Not steel. Customers like Campbell Soup (for cans). We wouldn't import Chinese. Their metal was impure, poor quality. I can see how y'all can make strong steel. Great video . Keep posting. 🇺🇸
Chinese steel mills vary, but they have some of the best globally, and can produce to meet Western quality and grade specs no problem, and cheaper. You do have to verify however.
@@rod-contracts1616 so politically correct. Mao would say well stated.
@@susanh326 Perhaps, and Mao was really only a danger to his own people, Xi is a danger to us, and we have a lot to do to stop our trade vulnerability with duplicitous China. They've made huge advances but are not to be under estimated or trusted.
@@rod-contracts1616 Never trust the Mainland Chinese and their CCP Commie Government. They are really duplicitous. My Russian great-grandfather once told me not to trust the Chinese one bit!
@@darthvader5300 When Mexico began its railroad, they brought Chinese workers to help with cheap labor. Once they began to set root in Mexico, the Mexican government to remove them and send them back to mainland China. Once old Mexican politician told me, "Where ever the Chinese set foot, the plant their roots"
Mike Rowe makes great shows
I got to see one of the last pours at Kaiser Steel, after 40 years of production near San Bernardino, Calif. There were more than 30 miles of RR track at the facility. 4 blast furnaces, 8 coke ovens, and huge coal handling facilities.
Poured the steel for all the liberty ships on the west coast, WW2
I lived 2 miles from the mill when I was a youngster
Poured the steel for the Santa Maria when Columbis shipped to America
I was raised in Midlothian, TX and this steel mill used to be called chaparral steel before getting bought out by Gerdau like a decade ago.
I love these new Mike Rowe skits on Fox.
Great work.
My grandfathers were steelworkers back in the day.
I’m sure it was very hard, hot, dirty, and dangerous work. Hats off to them!
Bring back US Steel production
No . Green deal = no steel . All jobs to China
@@anshumanjaiswal5787 China is imploding and collapsing right now. China is going to have a Great Depression sooner rather than later.
U.S.Steel in Nortwest Indiana is having record profits

Hello John how are you doing 😊
Good to see him back on TV. It was ridiculous that he was ever taken off of it.
I didn't go to college but ended up in a Gerdau steel mill. To my blue collar Man/Woman stay safe !
USWA
Gerday is a multinational Brazilian Company, and so I am. I'm a 20 years experienced overhead crane operator working for big steel industries in Br, but now searching for jobs in other countries.
Mad respect for these guys.
How many windmills or solar panels to power the one plant.
Fade windmills use thev 21st century equivalent of galley slaves...empty the prisons
1 steel mill in my town. Half of my family has worked at the mill in my town. I am a 4th generation steel worker. Great east but very dangerous job. Half the time I just get to sit around and make over 30 bucks an hour on straight time and it's even better when I'm on OT
Gotta love that OT
I worked over 30 years in a steel (coke plant, electric furnace, track department, and other departments) and the only time you would sit if you were a machine operator. What your job title?

LET'S GO, BRANDON🇺🇸💥
How many crayons do you eat @Yuriel Cundangan

Interesting. I was only familiar with the old blast furnace mills we had in Pittsburgh.

Big bucks!
Cool video👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You guys should have included info on salary, savings, and home ownership rates for these guys.
yes.
How many amps does it take to power ?
Used to work there....
I got a job at a steel mill, shucking steel like a slave. Five long years for one woman and she had the nerve to put me out.
2 versions of the same episode? Am I in a dream or something?
Ahhh! The life of a maintenance mechanic! Let me diagnose it first then I will tell what is wrong with it!
Buy American made products they say... put me down for 20lbs of melted steel please. Christmas is around the corner and my ex was asking for a present
I'd like to see what brand of catfish pole you guys are using. Lol
That’s it ? I expected more
Hello Dennis how are you doing 😊
For my crane techs brothers out there, Any of yall scratch your head when he was uptop rather than the doghouse?
It's because he's a mechanic...mechanics always look at the brakes first
Most of these guys have highschool educations and they make more than many who went to college, college is good but you don't necessarily need it to be successful
A good hot summer and shift schedules 8 12 and sometimes 16 hours will make you think twice. I had the job from HELL hahaha!!!
It pays good because it is heavy, dirty, unhealthy work. If you don't mind that, go for it. And being succesful is something very different from being wealthy.
4:31 Halo Spartan sheild sound
Most steel should be heat dipped galvanized or stainless steel. The idea in this age cars still rust is ridiculous.
Galvanized and stainless steel is not needed for most applications. I agree it is for automotive products.
The Brave little Toaster- Worthless
love it ... empty now ... as it drains all over the ground lol epa would love that
70,000 amps. oh my
Per leg, 3 legs, 210,000 amps!!! Would not want to see that electric bill!
@@acdii It would be like Algores.
Sleepy Joe said it can be ran by solar panels and windmills
70kA, 3 phase at the furnace is actually only a couple hundred amps on the incoming transmission line. The voltage is stepped down to less than 1,000 volts before it goes to the electrodes that arc thru the steel.
5:18 28 years old only? This guy was born in the 90s?
Steel is more recycled than asphalt?
By weight, yep.
~60% to 70% of all steel produced is recycled.
so this guy is " The Claw" from the Toy Story movies
❤️❤️❤️❤️🏆🏆🏆🏆👏👏👏👏
I think they forgot to finish this episode?
Why do we not make our own oil?
Biden
just sitting on it as long as possible, when the economy is really in the shitter thats gold.
Because we're going to save the planet and buy it from Venezuela at a premium 👏
Now if we can eliminate the unnecessary plastic.
There is nothing wrong with plastic. The issue is that governments have been promising recycling of plastics. What really happens is that plastic is sent to places like China who then take the plastic out on boats and dump it into the sea.
There are industrial scale recycling industries that actively dump plastics into the sea.
Let's GO Brandon!
Make thee haste, Brandon..
Make thee haste!!!
Do you enjoy eating crayons?
Are these ever more than 7 minutes? I would like to watch more but it seems they just leave yoh hanging ?

500 ppm is .20% carbon content or 0.05% carbon content. What they are making is low carbon steel.
Usually A36 or the like. Got to keep the carbon content low for weldability.
Must be some really well paying jobs here...but ya gotta be willing to get your hands...at least...dirty
There are plenty of jobs that do require physical effort but do not mean getting hands dirty.
How many wind turbines does it take to power one steel mill? Probably three times more than exist on the entire planet in 2023.
US steel stock has been performing poorly three years and it's still a poor stocked her on so all the malarkey about the steel being made in this country it's just that
Steel produced in Germany, UK and America cannot compete with the state subsidized steel of China on price.
Steel produced in China should face tariffs when entering both Europe and America and that has happened.
Most of the US steel companies are profitable and they all have billions of cash on hand.
Hello how are you doing 😊
Your expensive tesla could be using steel from a cheap beaten down Volkswagen xD
Problems all created by the producer
Omg no
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Is he just dumping the fuel on the ground? Enviro hazard for groundwater?
Come on mate one small amount of fuel on the ground is not going to do that. No wonder the Chinese steel industry is able to undercut American and European steel.
Gasoline was always dumped on the ground. A useless byproduct of diesel fuel process.
Lol i was there during all of this production
Ok
Jet fuel can't melt steel beams!
Climate change is hoax.
Green deal = no planes steel
do fat people feel heat differently?
Probably
Did you know Biden worked in a steel mill?
Ya, OSHA inspector
You're right, I think he said that 🤔

So the video opens up with a blatant propaganda saying we produce enough Steel for 2 Golden Gate Bridges; however do you realize HOW MINUSCULE an amount that is in the grand scheme of things! We have gutted and destroyed the US Steel industry, sold our souls for a dollar bill.
this guys have 0 regard for nature.
Go to china and see nature if you want. And then comeback.
We do not guarantee the safety of foreign parliamentarians airplane who visit Taiwan without our permission! target clear!
I celibate the men & women who perfom these tasks. How about we stop over using the word " hero" remember, without that arc furnace, nothing is possible. The materials we've used & all of a sudden vilified over the last few years are dependent on this process. No battery will ever produce the energy needed for this process. Thanks to all who are willing to do this job.
Haters, should be removed from the grid & consumption of these and other materials they hate.
Furnaces built America, sabed Europe twice.
