    Zee plays Lian, you can call him just 'Lian', it's easier. fyi 'Hia' ist just like a pronoun/honorific you say when you address an older thai-chinese person ('hia+name'), like how you say to an older person 'phi+name' in thai. Lian is around 7 years older than Kuea, that's why Kuea addresses him with hia :)

    the song nunew sang in the pub is a cover of an old thai song and was posted today with extracts of the series as an mv. the second official ost of cutie pie although is the one played at the end during the kiss scene. it is also sang by nunew and it will have a mv that will be directed by zee. it was supposed to be released next week but the shooting got postponed as both zee and new as well as other actors of domundi and staff got diagnosed with covid. honestly can't wait to see it though, can feel it will be great and will make me cry...

    How can a drama feel like it’s already at the climax when just two episodes?! Man my heart barely made it to the end but I’m glad I did cuz that kiss and the song at the end was beyond perfection. Kuea’ confession was so sweet and sad at the same time. As always love your reactions and can’t wait until next week. 🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️
    Side note: loved your Miss A reference! One of the first K-pop groups that I listened too. I loved them! And Christina’s talk about getting drunk at the club made me think about the two years I lived in Okinwawa. Man did I do a lot of walk of shames back to the Navy base. 😂😂😂😂😂

    According to the maid, Keua's mother is Mrs. KewaRIN. The water Lian produces, branded Kilen, arises from his name according to ep 1. Thus, Kuea's alter ego, Kiren, amalgamates a syllable from each of their family names. Hiding in plain sight...

    "This is the calmest club I've ever seen." That crowd wildly, enthusiastically cheered a slow, sad song about damaged love. The song was great, the singing was great, and the lyrics advanced both Kuea's and Lian's storyline. But if you decided to go hear live music, at a club, on a Saturday night, while drinking with friends, would the vibe of that song not have left you craving something more upbeat and raucous? Kirin's success on the evening manifested TV plot reality, not so much nightclub on a Saturday reality. But I think they stayed within the bounds of permissible suspension of disbelief. I didn't mind.

    I love to see your reaction together, where you two have the same line of thoughts but expressed them differently so it made for a good conversation. And you're right, we're watching an ongoing series, not reading a novel no matter if it's adapted from it or not and the director, scriptwriter, and even the AUTHOR had said multiple times that they will need to change some things from the novel to actually make it make sense in a live action. The story and plot is already deemed 'impossible' for some people because it's a same sex arranged marriage, so they really have to figure out how to weave that into the 'real world'. Also the way you two discuss what's happening from BOTH perspective and not only just from Kuea's perspective is wonderful, I see far too many people only defending and 'protecting at all cost' the one who is perceived as the 'weak' one (or in another word that I hate, the "uke") about BL in general.
    as someone who doesn't watch a lot of BLs (or any type of series in general) because I am extremely picky, I'm very intrigued about which shows you were throwing shades to because I honestly don't know 👀

    The whole Kilen - Qilin - Kilin - Kirin is a mystical beast in Chinese and also Japanese folklore almost like a chimera with attributes of a lion, with a tail, horn mane. Remember Hia Lian is of Chinese descent so Kuea created Kirin which is a play on Hia's name and how it is pronounced cause L sound like an R in Chinese and Japanese I believe.

    So, don't get me wrong, I am enjoying this series' charms as much as everyone else, but here's a couple issues to keep an eye on as future episodes divulge more info, context, backstory. At the moment the red flags are only halfway up the mast. Let's hope we can take them down.
    1. The "have you done it yet?" conversation. This dialog would make sense between female characters in the 1950s. In those days, "respect" reinforced cultural mores against sex between unmarried partners. Today, "respect" means having an open conversation about what each partner is ready for, not avoiding sex altogether. "Maybe he respects me" as a grounds for a non-sexual relationship? Between "gay" characters in the 21st century? Straight folk were less prudish than that when I grew up in the '80s (most of them, anyway). Even our parents didn't take "he'll wait if he respects you" seriously. Kids explore each other's bodies--modern society gets that. That's why obtaining "consent" occupies such a prominent place nowadays. Back in 2014, Lovesick had a more liberated approach to sexual mores between unmarried partners. Characters don't need to sleep together for a show to feel realistic. But the underlying tone of that conversation seems archaic, patriarchal, and reactionary. It reinforces a sexual script in which female sexual options were controlled, restricted and constrained. (Gay characters as proxies for female manners and mores? Not remotely innovative or fresh.) It struck me as woefully out of touch with the reality of present day youth culture, especially among young men (who always had more leeway to "sow wild oats" than young women).
    2. The dynamic between the older boyfriends and their younger....wards. Note that I chose a word there that does not describe a relationship between equals. Keua's parents actally used the word "guardian." Keua and Lian's whole relationship, going way back to grandpa, is founded on the premise where one is responsible for the well being of the other, who is expected to be good and behave. That's a parent-child dynamic, not the basis of a romantic relationship between equals. Plus, is anyone else alarmed by the way Keua and Kon Diao jump when their boyfriends call? That they fret over the consequences of making mistakes? That Kon Diao drops everything to rush away when his boyfriend summons him? That the boyfriends demand an accounting of what they're doing and who they are with? Does anyone else want to Google one of those checklists for "Signs Someone You Know is in an Abusive Relationship?" Cause pretty sure "limiting a partner's access to the outside world" is a major item on those lists--and THAT coming plot development is in the teaser video.
    Just something to ponder as we all drool over how smart Lian looks in those suits. Power suits. But will Lian use the power toxically? It's a BL, so it wouldn't be the first time toxic behavior got confused with romance. But as I said earlier...future episodes may allay my con erns. Sure hope so.

      @jaysonmahone28 Před 2 lety +1

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 Před 2 lety +4

      @@jaysonmahone28 I am very much appreciating the two episodes so far! I was also very much horrified when Kon Diao ran out of the club in a panic, which amplified his earlier comments about getting scolded. I also very much doubt that the writers intend either couple as a case study in abusive relationships. It's a rom-com, after all. But IRL, if either of those younger "kids" walked into my office and described the events of ep 1 and 2...I'd refer them to counselors.

    • @Abynova
      @Abynova Před 2 lety +3

      Want to jump on this comment just to point that different cultures have different views, your first point is that the thinking is backward and about women's oppression but just to let you know, men and women are still the same and think the same about sex, that conversation was very normal for a lot of aisan and African countries if not all, Lovesick was and still is very shocking for most of us, we know that a lot of teen do have sex and get wild behind their parents back in our society but we never explored it openly like lovesick, we are used to acting like these things doesn't happen just culture/religion things we grow up with, I'm a 30 years old and my friends and I still have conversations like that one and we act like our parents don't know anything about our sex lives or that we have any at that, so when you look at that scene think about different cultures. I would not say it's right but we just used to it and live with it.
      Second point is also kinda of not true yes the guys are acting toxic but you don't have the full background of what made them super protective of their younger partners, I'd recommend waiting for the story to unfold, the parents asked Lian to be guardian because Kuea is underage but the mather immediately said to treat him like a partner not a father or a brother figure.
      We are trying to get P'Aof to make a series about Yi and Diao because their story is a lot more than what shows on Cutie Pie and they have a painful background story that needs to be shown on its own
      The director Aof actually said that he is trying to use this series to fix a lot of misconceptions and backward thinking in society.
      I rambled a lot and hope that I don't come off rude or anything just wanted to point out the difference of opinion so that others get to enjoy this series without having negative feelings about what's happening.

    • @baozibang_TaliKpopAddict
      @baozibang_TaliKpopAddict Před 2 lety +1

      Also... I just want to say how concerning it is for me how people immediately describe any relationship dynamic that isn't "equal" as toxic. There are a Ton of dynamics that don't fit the standards and aren't toxic. Both dynamics shown so far look a lot more like overprotective Daddies than abusive partners to me.

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Abynova your comments did not come across as rude at all. And the challenge to the first point was entirely a fair one. In trying to keep my ideas as brief (hah!) as possible, not every piece of my thinking got into the final draft. Omitted was my self-awareness that my comments came from a US perspective and that i know perfectly well the chronology I laid out is not universal. (I fell into the classic writer's trap of thinking the half-formed idea that was in my head was clear to everyone else, too.) In focusing on cross-generational shifts in ideology surrounding sexual behavior, I lost track of the cross-cultural shifts that would have made a dense subject even more dense. Sexual mores are always culturally specific, and they shift over time. Normally, the shifts are slow--which is precisely why western culture refers to the Sexual Revolution. It took less than one generation for the old mores to crumble in the US--hence the word "revolution." Also, the brief allusion to Lovesick ought to have included an additional description, explicitly stating that the series provides evidence of tension between prescriptive ideas of sexual behavior (the way things are supposed to be) and descriptive accounts of sexual behavior (the way they really are). Actually, your remark about "acting like these things don't happen" and the silences between your parents and your peers is an even more eloquent example of the tension I described between "should be" and "actually is." My beef with Cutie Pie is less that the dialog in that scene fell short of the more permissive standard, it's that it uncritically advanced only the "supposed to be" side of things. Your comment mentioned things your peers don't tell the parents...Well, that scene had no parents, just two younger people whose expectations (especially one who'd spent his adolescence in England) plausibly could have been more open to having at least discussed sex already. (Again, I am fine with the plot point that the characters have not yet had sex. It was defaulting to the idea that virtue would be lost if they did that struck me as false--and the Lovesick reference was meant as evidence that Thai teens are plenty aware of their options.)
      I will push back against your second point. My first and last paragraphs each explicitly state that additional information is needed to draw a conclusion. Hence, the phrases, "keep an eye on" and the hope the red flags will not, in the end, be needed. And the paragraph on the boyfriend dynamics stops short of calling anyone toxic or abusive. Just that some of the behaviors bear closer scrutiny. Your counterpoint relies on knowledge of future events, whereas my remarks rest only on what's made it onscreen through two episodes. (It's clear Lian has reservations and emotions yet to get revealed onscreen.) Moreover, "super protective" behavior of a younger partner is not always healthy, as when it stifles the younger person's growth into becoming an independent adult or leaves that individual under the thumb of the protector. On the other hand, sometimes super-protective behavior is quite welcome. (Here, Lian's super protective intervention on the dance floor was wholly appropriate in the circumstances. And in this episode Kuea's parents stifled his burgeoning independence when they infantilized their college-age son (an adult, if in college) by yolking him to Lian's reluctant supervision. That annoyed me more than anything Lian himself did.) In short, "the prosecution" is still gathering evidence about Lian and Yi, but no charges have been brought thus far. It's a rom-com, so I suspect none will be needed. The question is whether the artificial drama needed to drive the plot forward will continue to lend itself to this harsh interpretation of Yi and Lian. Getting their stories some screen time would help.
      Finally, one other point, though not one you raised. I finished my first post by saying I'd refer the lads to counseling. That's not because I concluded they were in abusive relationships. It's because I saw warning signs. And knowing I am not prepared to assess or advise on such situations, the referral would be to people actually trained to diagnose and support those situations. See something, say something.
