Kaiwi, pup approached by 2 dogs, officials remind beachgoers to stay clear of seals

- There was a tense moment at Kaimana Beach in Waikiki on Friday, May 7, when two dogs approached Hawaiian monk seal Kaiwi and her pup as they were resting on the shoreline.
The owners of those dogs need to be cited for not having them on a leash and for attacking that seal and her pup!

They need to be arrested. Dogs are not allowed on Kaimana beach because it’s a common place for mama seals and their pups. Kaolin has had 8 other pups in the area.
It's a felony, they need to start smacking people with them.
Dogs aren't allowed on the beach and their owner's must be cited on the spot. No other option.

There should be NO DOGS allowed, they can pass a communicable disease to the seals. Fine them! Accountability! The disease can then be transmitted to other monk seals. This is an endangered species!

You were nowhere close to the seals when they were attacked. You couldn't catch up to the dogs.

somebody shoulda followed the owners to their vehicle and take down their plates (u guys are fast with your iphones and smartphones!!!).....because of the laws banning dogs on the beach, I kinda know its not a mainland family (your pet is in animal quarantine ) while you visit.
Actually they have a “DAR” or Direct from airport program now or a “5 days or less” program, basically you can get proof of your animals vax and have them quarantine at home _(on the “honor system”)_ prior to coming to Hawai’i now… the “state” essentially just doesn’t seem to care about protecting local native species anymore, it’s even basically completely defunded port inspections that protected from invasive species like snakes, etc, that’s why we’ve had so many invasive species here now… mountain lions, skunks, rhino beetles, koki, iguanas, etc etc.
Those dogs looked related.
One was a border collie or Australian Shepard.
But the other one by the baby seal was definitely a Australian cattle dog cause he looks just like mine

Where can you call to report people with unleashed dogs on the beach? I see lot’s of people with unleashed dogs and some very aggressive dogs
One went to attack my little dog the people didn’t even try to put the leash on . And I saw also dogs harassing the sea lions this happened all the times on places that tourists don’t go and not many people around dogs are always loose .
better yet, instead of a citation, irresponsible owner needs to pay for the cost of the seal rehabilitation.
That's terrible? A nice seal that frequented the Thames over in London was recently attacked by a dog & perished. Sad

Aloha I saw a dog bite a man at Makaha Beach he jumped out of the lady's chair and bit him on the leg and then he was friendly to the lady and the dog she did not have it tied up , if that had been a child it could have been seriously injured ,monk Seal you don't bother them they have to grow until the baby can swim by itself, I think we should have a contest to name the baby

I don't understand why People bring there dogs to the Beach anyway. Other beach goers have to walk through their dogs excrement, it's disgusting. Respect ALL beach visitors, from the Sea & from the Land. No Dogs 🐕 Allowed means just what it says, RESPECT

I had a dog attack my dog and my dog was on a leash at Kailua Beach about 25 years ago luckily my dog was still a pup I could pick him up and the owner just sat there with his girlfriend like no big deal
This is what my father said about dogs:
"there are too many dogs in the world and they spread diseases".
This seems intentional to me, like the person let their dogs off leash to chase the seals away cause they’re irritated at the people around or that their beach access has been limited. Find the owners, take their pets away, fine the owners immediately for having dogs off leash and for putting the seals in danger.

WHAT A HELL??!! SUCH A PEOPLE MAKE ME CRAZY :/ My dog lisen to me even we see deer and wild boar ... I simply give ORDER and he lisen.... and even then i have him on leash in public spaces! WTF OWNERS OF DOGS OWERSEAS.....

Seems like this is more for the people then the seals..the seal mom picked the wrong location..society laws are getting annoying..no dogs on beach..really..
