Thing is about Guthrie's clinic stuff - it's awe inspiring but he's so advanced in technique and theory that only about 1% of players will ever be able to replicate any of his stuff to any degree of fluidity. However, I do believe we need to see what is possible on the instrument should one ever happen to aspire so high.
Can't decide what makes me feel stupider: Listening to Guthrie explain this or trying to understand String Theory. We humans must not be so bad a species if we can produce someone like GG. Inspiring..
We should be thankful that Guthrie taught monthly in guitar mags (in the UK - Guitar Techniques) for like nearly 20 years (from about 1991). That experience (and meeting the other instructors), and his experiences teaching at guitar colleges, have given him an amazing teaching ability. His books (creative guitar) are also fantastic and worth buying. I'm lucky I have the books but I have pretty much the entire teaching run he did in Guitar Techniques magazine (and have most of the CDs). I bet that magazine collection is quite a collectors item to have, as most of the magazines are out of print now (and copyrights stop reproduction) :) Not to mention, early on he used to print his mobile phone number in the lessons! So readers could actually call him, book lessons or just talk guitar technique ..imagine someone trying to do that today *lol*. ..I'm so glad I experienced Guthrie in that time period, he was rediculously accessible and such a gent (and he was pretty much as good then as he is now). So glad things turned out well for him :)
The metronome simulation was great!
this guy is on a high level in the matrix

Not a fan of this guys playing.
His compositions are too technique based rather than being truly inspired.
