Another factor on the level of battlefield is the number of dead tokens your guild ends up with. For each member who has less than 50 characters in their roster, you're most likely increasing the number of dead tokens, and that will impact how well you can attack.

It is a lot more enjoyable to be one season late to go up in level than to go one season early.

The number of teams you can field at the higher Rarity caps will affect how good your offense is. Having multiple teams for the higher rarities really can make a difference.

We had 90 left over tokens and where one attack short of taking hq and lost by 30k.

What you where talking about around the 10 minute mark doesn't apply at least in BF2 can't say for higher than that though. If you get a guild that has only 20-24 participants but 3 d1+ squads from high levels, you can just wall off the 2nd level zones with 15 d1-3's whichever and if your opponent can't get through them you are stuck.
Matchmaking from what I have seen doesn't make much sense. I think it factors your full guild but in reality it should only factor who signed up.
I will say the diamond wall can suck to run into but at least in BF2 a deeper roster of members who can cap the rare and uncommon spots in rookie zones is more important. In some of our victories I'd say about half of them the other guilds where built for raiding foremost but ran out of gas on the bottom 4 groups of zones more so than the top party you set.
If I had to put #'s to it, I would say being able to field 3 7-7.5k uncommon teams, a 40k rare team, and whatever your Bellator, eldy, +3 for your top team is fine for your lower members when you think of moving up. The highest epic team power wise I have seen from our opponents was a 215k team but that player also had a legendary team that was 1.5 million power so they had played a long time and where decked out accordingly.

I would add battle 1 is a crap shoot with the matchmaking in BF2 you can be placed incorrectly with a opponent and you gotta take the L and move on to battle 2. Battle 2 and later the match maker starts to dial in more effectively and you won't be placed into a huge offset. But the first 2 battles are just luck getting accurately placed against a comparatively guild.

I really really wish SP was more transparent with GW matchmaking.

I hope they don’t invest time in improving in-game chat. Too many Reworks need to happen before they should even look at chat.
