From Hercules the Legendary Journeys Season 1 Episode 10, "Gladiator": After coming to the aid of Felicita and her baby, Hercules and Iolaus learn that her husband - Gladius - has been wrongfully imprisoned for a long time. Worse, he is forced to fight to survive in gladiator games. Hercules and Iolaus set out to free him and the other prisoners, but doing so requires them to become prisoners as well.

The 90s could afford to be cheesy. A time when heroes and villains were allowed to be cut-and-dried, but colorful and fun.

Actually the 90s broke away from traditional cut & dried molds. What Hercules put forth helped define the significant changes in TV material.
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly I was born in the late 90s, but didn’t grow up with the show. I stumbled upon Hercules on this one channel though. And from what I observed from watching its episodes, this Hercules is a traditionally noble hero. The only non-traditional things I’ve seen was Xena rejecting her baby, Hercules helping out a thief in tights, and ninjas existing in Greece. And who’s idea was to introduce Greek tacos? In any case, that’s what I observed.

The actor playing the head Guard is the same guy who played Jason. Maxius' wife is played by the same actress who played the Amazon Queen Melosa on Xena.

Young guys are all over there place with these clips. I don't understand why couldn't guys continue the origin of Xena? it makes no sense to to just post random clips that are not in order. I wanted to see scenes from "Unchanged heart"
They ARE going in order. The episode “The Warrior Princess” was the 9th episode of the first season of Hercules: The Legendary. This episode, “Gladiator,” was the 10th. Then comes the 11th episode, “The Vanishing Dead.” The 12th and 13th episodes are “The Gauntlet” and “Unchained Heart,” both of which feature Xena.

Xena learns to value life too.
The thing was Herc was more willing to let bad guys live, while Xena wouldn't try as hard.
Xena would warn people not to mess with her. In the heat of battle people died. Also letting Calisto die in quicksand perhaps is different than Hercules.
When Calisto poisoned his family, Herx still tried to save Calisto when she called out for help but to trick him.
Perhaps it's that Hercules is half god or more skilled than Xena.
Or maybe that Xena was a darker show. Hercules was telling us how the world should be. Xena was telling us how bad people make the world difficult.
