    Hey there guys, Just letting everyone know that I no longer do Hydrographic printing, Im now working as a full time musician and plan to take my channel in that direction. I had considered taking this video down but as the info is still relevant and people are still looking at it after all this time, I've decided to leave it up as it may still help people. I'll check back from time to time to answer questions if I can. Cheers, Daz

    First off...I can't Thank You Enough For you videos. Today I was going to give up on hydrograghics because I spent a tremendous amount of money and I just couldn't get a good dip until This video. I have also found out that the temp. doesn't matter. I'm from Wisconsin and it's always cold . My water temp was 54.3'f and let soak for 10 min (sometimes more).I sprayed activator,then dipped..THE PART CAME OUT PERFECT. All that money wasted on timing the film and worried about water temp.MAN I AM SO HAPPY.
    THANKS KEEWEE. ✌

    Thanks for the great video. I've been considering dipping a few rifles, but doing it myself because I'm a DIY sort of guy. I was kind of torn between doing s straight duracoat multicam job or dipping them in multicam. I've painted multicam to great effect and I don't mean to brag, but it looked damn good. My welding hood would disappear in my multicam shooting mat. lol However, it takes so freaking long to paint the pattern and with the extra prep and steps duracoat takes, it would take forever just to do one gun. So I was considering duracoat/dip combination and from what I read, if you only let the duracoat sit for 15 minutes before dipping it, then you end up with an incredibly durable coating, specially after you put a duracoat matt top coat on it. However, my concern was the area I have to dip, which would be basically a tub and maintaining a water temp in a tub would be hard. I guess its the summer and its over 100 degrees so if I let it sit in the sun it would stay warm. lol Glad to see that you don't need to us hot water though.

    Do you need to prep all the items you want to dip. I want to get into this here in the UK and I like the way you explain things. Is there a process I need to learn to do it better. Thanks

    • @greentracktasmania5659
      @greentracktasmania5659 Před 7 lety +1

      Del Mottershaw Yes, absolutely! Its ALL about the prep! Hydrographics is a paint process. All parts must be sanded and prepped, then painted in automotive basecoat. Then you dip the item, rinse it under fresh water for 10 t0 15 minutes then clearcoated with 2pac clear. Items should then be baked, wet sanded and polished. Anyone can learn to dip but you need to learn to paint first!

    How are things in OZ. What do use to prime the item with ? They say you have to do the dip within a certain time of priming with a special primer and spray this stuff on the metal parts to have the primer stick and all that. I would love to hear you debunk all that!
    Thanks William ( American but not a seppo wanker )

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM  Před 7 lety

      William Smith hi Will, sorry but I can't debunk all that. Hydrographics is a paint process. The dipping is really the easy part, in fact, I can teach anyone to dip in a day! The really important part is the prep, painting, clearcoating, colour sanding and polishing. This can take years to learn to do properly! If you have no painting experience, you are in for a steep learning curve :/

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM  Před 7 lety

      William Smith oh and, to answer your question, yes, each different type of material requires the correct primer and prep process. The film is designed to stick to solvent based automotive basecoat. Basecoat needs to be cleared with a 2pak automotive clear (which should really be sprayed and baked in a decent spray booth/oven). Basecoat has a clearcoat window of about 12 hours (depending on brand, air temp etc), otherwise is becomes too hard to accept the clear and flaking and peeling may result. I'm not trying to put you off, just letting you know that there is a lot more to this process than a lot of CZcams vids would have you believe.

    Hey Daren, just watched your homemade activator video and its amazing! just a question im based in NZ we can get diggers xylene easy from bunnings but will diggers lacquer thinner work? in terms of thinners (2K) theres not much here for us

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM  Před 4 lety +1

      ratfish4life hi mate. Yep, the Diggers Xylene will work fine but you need to go to an automotive paint supplier for 2k thinner. Lacquer thinner is different. You will be able to get it from a trade supplier, it's used extensively in the auto industry.

      @@officialWWM I've found two shops that i can buy online. Options are Concept universal 2k Thinner and there's PLAN 2k Tinner (for automotive refinish paints). Which one would you suggest?
      heres links for both: panelstore.co.nz/products/2k-thinner-reducer?variant=334217055 smitsgroup.co.nz/product/81231/concept-universal-2k-thinner-1l
      Again thank you so much for the help

      ratfish4life it's hard for me to say because I've never used either of them but my guess is they would both work, you may just need to adjust the xylene content a little. You will have to experiment till you get a mix you like.

      @@officialWWM fair enough thanks for all the helpful info! one more question, is a spray gun necessary? or can i just mix a little into a little spray bottle? I'm just wanting to try it as a hobby at home so dont wanna pay too much for things i dont really need.

    Hey man, please help, i tried hydro dipping but when i dip, it still hard like a paper. At first i thought i was dipping on the wrong side of the film, but i already made sure by using the sticky finger test. I dont know whats wrong with my film today. I was able to do one correctly yesterday, but not today.

    • @officialWWM
      @officialWWM  Před 4 lety +1

      Jaydrone Vids sounds like you either aren't letting the film sit on the water to hydrate for long enough, or you aren't using enough activator.

    please help me, I have tried with warm and cold water, I am using a 400ml aerosol activator and I have got the film all set up and its soaks into the water nicely. but then when I spray the activator it doesn't change.. Unless I am like 3cm away when I spray it. then it expands but doesnt still to the item. I have got a metal shisha vape that I'm trying to drip and ive sprayed it with Metal primer and then Black Satin spray paint.

      pull it back more than 3 cm. you wanna be like.. 15 cm away, youre way to close. also.. when using spray paints i noticed LOTS DO NOT WORK. but KRYLON super MAXX works perfectly. make sure to dip the part after 40 mins of painting with that though. cheers mate
