- I love ice fishing gear. In this video I give a side by side comparison on the ice of one of the most expensive and one of the least expensive options for ice fishing electronics. Is Livescope worth the $5000 price tag? You can be the judge for yourself. Thanks for watching!

YOUR COMMENTS HAVE BEEN HEARD. I just purchased a Garmin Striker 4. Review video coming soon...
lol I saw the vid and was about to come down to the comments to say that you should try that.
could you do a hummingbird settings for summer? clayton did a good one for winter but i can't find a good one for summer.... i know their's a bunch on youtube but they're not so good
Thoughts on ICE HELIX 5 G2 , just purchased as my first unit but haven’t used yet
I use a Garmin striker 4 on my canoe love it.
I have used one for 4 years now. In open water I will have it along in the boat. When I find a rock pile or transition in a spot that I know can be fished through the ice i will mark it. Come ice in I now have waypoints to walk or drive to.
I dont even have the ice transdeucer. The suction cup can be removed and the angle of the deucer adjusted so it hangs parallel to bottom. Works far better than it should. The flasher function also works well but you need to have a jigging rap or heavy jig tied on, something like a slender spoon is too small of a profile to see. Have not been able to justify replacing this unit with a dedicated flasher. Just to versatile
If you're going to get a $250 sonar, get the GARMIN STRIKER 4. Inexpensive, works great for ice fish and also can be used for open water fishing!
I agree with this, I have it. Its incredible for the cost. You can use in your boat or on the ice.
@@connortruman3906 ice ducer is nice to add to it but not 100% necessary
Yes!
$5000-$250 = $4750 left over for “Perch Powder”. Jimmy can I get a ton?
Is that what Canadians call cocaine 🤔 😳 😏 🤣
Thanks for being public with your Faith and your positive content It makes a difference!
Hard to sell/list houses when these videos come on... Great job..
I'll offer you USD $05.00 for your finest house!
$1
You nailed it Jay, I love my livescope for finding fish and reacting to their behaviour with the presentation. But the biggest unintended result was learning so much about fish behaviour. Makes me a better fisherman even if I am using the Helix.
Absolutely!
I try the same thing with a conventional flasher, but it's def much harder when you're not sure how they're fully reacting. I wish I had the money for something like this, or even rental for a day!
@@JaySiemens For fishing at Lockport is 20 pound line and a 30 pound leader strong enough? And how long should the leader be?
Just used my livescope for the first time this past weekend. Seeing a lake trout come onto the screen and swim 40 ft in about 3 seconds then swirl around my bait before crushing it was incredible.
Yeah so fun!
I bought a Garmin LiveScope All Season bundle using a 93 SVUHD for $2599 brand new delivered to my door. Everything I need to ice fish with LiveScope. 1 click and I am fishing in my boat using side imaging and down imaging in the spring. I L-O-V-E my LiveScope for both summer and winter fishing!
Thats awesome!
The flasher mode on the ball unit was surprisingly good.
I like $250. More chicken money.
Cock-a -doodle doo 🐔 lmao taro you need to post more videos bro you been slackin!!
More money for the chicken box lottery!!!
Swiss chalet 🤤🤤
Swiss chalet my guy
That's a lot of fried chicken and cold beer
I love you videos Jay! Every time I watch one I learn something new! :)
Jay posted a new video.....taking my coffee break be back in 15. I had no idea about those tiny sonar balls. Would be amazing for those back country spec lakes when your packing light. Thanks Jay!
For $250 it’s better than I expected. Live scope is incredible. I wish
Jay either FaceTimes friends quite a bit on the ice, or ALL of his friends are just good luck. I love how every time he posts a video he's got a buddy on the phone. Thats awesome!
I like the company when the fishing slows down!
I love content like this 👍so informative. Thanks Jay keep it coming!
75,000 subs!!!!! Woohoo Jay!! Congrats!
Thanks!!
Good review! Just wondering if depth of the ice affects the sonar ball. I have one and never thought to use it as I thought the ice thickness would restrict it's ability to pick up anything that wasn't directly below the hole. Good for depth marking if anything.
Good video lol, I had to laugh when you pulled out the deeper, I have livescope but I still love my deeper.
I have both. The deeper, marcum lx6 and also the garmin livescope. I use both of them also. I don’t fish as much as I used too but having the garmin is a game changer. You can finally see the fish and everything. Even if you’re just fishing for fun it’s nice to have if you can afford it. The best part about having the livescope is you can use it both in hard and open water which makes it worth it also.
I think the underwater camera is what changed ice fishing for me, nothing like watching the way they react to different bait and presentation.
So cool to watch!
12:12 what did you call that fish? Btw Love watching your vids man. I live in California so ice fishing here lasts for about 3 months if we’re lucky and have a good winter. I’ve owned 2 pro plus and currently own and use a deeper chirp and I love it! I’m currently on the hunt for lake trout this ice fishing season. Do you have any tips and tricks that you use to catch lake trout? Keep cranking out the vids! Always excited when I get a notification about a new vid from you! :)
Whitefish or Tullibee. Thanks so much for watching!
If u fish alot the livescope is a must...
Getting catch and cook for this year!!!
What a cool comparison! Thank you! I have no clue about any of this tech and your video was a big help!
Glad I could help!
Awesome comparison Jay! So cool to see the behavior of the fish.
Awesome jay!! Your videos are awesome. Keeping me sane during this lockdown.
Good to hear! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I started on the Deeper and upgraded to the 63 echomap a couple years ago. Thanks for what you are doing, love your videos and tight lines :-)!!!
Thanks for watching!
Wow congratulations on the catch and cook. I buy that stuff anytime I see it on the shelf, can never have too much around !
Awesome comparison. That little ball Is pretty neat. I love watching all the videos with the live scope
Haha Sam calls it "fish TV"
@@JaySiemens my girlfriend got into ice fishing with me this year after watching you and Sam! The only stipulation she requested for next ice season is we have to invest in a livescope. I can’t say I’m upset about that, so thank you guys!
love the side by side comparison would love to see cheap underwater camera vs expensive underwater camera
Noted!
Sharing this vid every time people ask what to buy for fish finders!
Awesome!
Good video. Liked the side by side comparison.
Fantastic video!! Love the comparison between both.....good job👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Love your fishing vids new and old. I also love that you’re from Manitoba like me, super clutch for learning!
Thats great to hear! Cheers
Great channel! The problem I have with quite a bit of the content is locating fish! You all make it seem so easy because you have Pay-To-Play mapping, Panoptix, underwater cams, etc.. believe you me... If I could, I would have Panoptix! Just not at all feasible! You should go out on an expedition with bait, a rod, and a bucket and show us poor boys how to do it the hard way!!!
I have a few videos doing this! Going out with a hook and line. Check them out!
Would love a step-by-step video on how you fillet crappie, perch, and walleye.
Noted!
Good morning! What a great way to start the day off. Got a nice week long ice fishing trip coming. Hope you’re doing well!
Thanks for watching!!
I have had the deeper sonar ball for 4 years now I believe and I love it just for the convenience of how portable it really is. Though I have been looking at buying something new since I do alot of lake fishing now that I have a boat.
This thing is frickin awesome! Ounce I turned this unit on an saw all the gizmos it has, I said sweet baby Jesus, honey get out the frying pan cuz this things going to catch us a whole lot of good eatin!!!
Wow, what a difference. I wish I could afford one of those. Great video Jay
Love your fishing videos, always lots of information. What Livescope do you have? Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic Video. The savings has started for Livescope, just so cool to see the difference that it makes.
Hopefully more competitors will lower the price a bit in the future!
Enjoyed this one, great side-by-side! 🐟
Glad you enjoyed it!
"It's cold and this is when it get hard" as he's in a sweatshirt🤣. Love your videos
Haha yeah fair enough
For $240 US you can buy the Garmin Striker 4 portable kit with their ice transducer. The regular portable kit with a tradition ducer for open water use (that works under the ice too in a pinch) is on sale right now for $180. And I'd say it's superior to anything else under $300. Be interested to see what you think.
I don't know if the sonar ball has the ability in the app to turn up the chart speed, but that would help with fish recognition.
Great video!! Your positivity is contagious!!
Thank you so much!!
Been waiting for a video like this!
Another fantastic video! Thanks Jay!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for all the awesome content!!
Super fun video and your enthusiasm is contagious 😎👍👍
THANKS!
I’m not paying attention to school just so I can watch this
The video will be here after school!!
Great video. Thank you for the review. I’m new to your videos and love them.
Awesome! Thank you!
I find it really cool the difference in walleye sizes like our walleye out at pigeon lake alberta are a minimum 40cm and like 3-5 pounds.. with very big shoulders
Good day....you also need to try the RayMarine Dragonfly.... 🤔🤔🤔
Thought for sure it'd be a garmin striker 4 in the comparison - a very solid unit for entry level
Looking forward to that next one you mentioned!
Good work
Have u ever tried zooming in on the bottom with the garmin, gets a little fuzzy but easier to see. Pros/cons?
You’re amazing ! Nice video!
Great video. Thanks for the information. I'm still sporting my $20 garage-sale flasher that works and was always wondering if I'd be good to jump into Panoptix. I'll probably wait longer.
Garmin striker 4 is the best entry level one hands down
Great tutorial and presentation sir !
got a garmin striker and navionics on my phone and its works!
Great!
$250 beer budget prices vs $5000 good used truck price lol love your videos Jay
Thanks so much!
Smalleye and smallereye the big one still out there. Really enjoy your videos Keep up the good work.
Glad you like them!
Just look at it ! Would you look at this , mmmmm look at that .... usually when I look at something , I say would you look at this , look at that !! Lol.
Psh,
Great videos keep them up
I use a Garmin Striker 4 for ice fishing. Picked up on sale for $95. Originally got it for my kayak but have since used it for ice fishing. Battery lasts all weekend on a 8ah, it's light weight, It has a 16 degree cone, traditional graph or flasher style. The only downside is it takes a little technique to get the transducer to aim correctly but still does the trick. For 80 bucks you can get the ice transducer and that issue would be solved. Would love to see your thoughts in another flasher breakdown/comparison.
Loved the striker 4. Excellent option for its price point!
Hey Jay, Towards the end of the video you mentioned making a video on using no electronics which would be good but could you also make one on how to select a spot on an unfamiliar lake? I struggle when trying new bodies of water during ice season to find the right place to start. Thanks for making these awesome videos!
I have! Using google maps or apps like Navionics and things that I look for in a new lake!
@@JaySiemens Thanks, I’ll look it up.
I have deeper pro+, great backup sonar, great portability.
Definitely!
Love the daily content
Nice livscope setup man! Now I want the bigger screen 🤣🤣
Great video Jay, you should invite Aaron sometimes, I miss you two being together alot!
See how jay liked pretty much every comment but this one. That’s a NO.
But I do wish jay would focus more on fishing
He's always invited!
There really isn’t a comparison, would love a live scope, but not feasible for the average fishermen. Maybe in 5 years! Til then the helix is fun to play with! Keep up the great content!
Definitely! Thank you!
I do have deeper pro. I use it on my bellyboat. Like it. Once on ice fishing
Cool!
Live scope is pretty sweet! I kept finding myself watching the split screen flasher/sonar ha ha. Anyone else guilty of that?
Another great video!
Loving the old town sweatshirt
ya the Garmin Striker 4 bundle with the ice-ducer is pretty damn sweet for the pricetag
Definitely!
Thanks for the vids man.. the first vid i watched where was when you went to Brochet, MB with Uncut... Which is pretty cool cause that's my mother's hometown.. i know how you felt from traveling from thompson all the way to brochet lol... from truck to boat.. definitely takes a toll on the body..but its worth it being out on reindeer lake
Such a good memory!
Jay, why do you have to post new videos when I'm in the middle of home schooling my kid 🤣🤣🤣
It’s an education video! Watch with your kid 😂😂
@@JaySiemens oh he loves watching them with me. 10am can't get here fast enough
the sonar on the far right of the deeper is all i use....zoom in to the bottm 4 feet or so, its great
Cool!
Just purchased a Deeper Chirp+...love it! Not able to keep enough fish in Alberta to spend anything over 500$
Fair enough! half of the time we're just fishing for fun, and not for limits.
@@JaySiemens got to try it out casting open water for the first time couple weeks ago....works pretty good for getting readings of the bottom. Keep up the great vids!!
Great video Jay!
Thanks!
I feel like the striker 4 from garmin is a better option, 190 us for flasher and 2d with chirp. That nice..
Jay, I noticed your in forward mode in this video, why use that vs Downard view since your not moving around????
Jay have you worked with the Lowrance Hook 2 rev 7 ? Seems like the sonar band is wider and a sort of a poor mans livescope. Love your video just wondering what you thought... :)
Amazing! It is so neat to see the fish's attitude. Can you see the same attitude when using Livescope on open water?
Yes!
Another amazing video, thank you sir.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The deeper is going up in price after this video! Hahaha
@@Skank_Hunt42 you don't think comparing an item with something that cost 20 times the amount will bring up it's value?
Of course the livescope is better. But is it 20 times better? Of its 20 times better, what percentage of people actually has 5k laying around to buy it?
@@Skank_Hunt42 that's all based on personal opinion and preference. I have access to a traditional unit and the lives cope. And frankly speaking I catch the same amount of fish with both devices. Sure the live scope is a lot more fun to use. However, like Jay said you almost need a dedicated sled for it. And it makes hole hopping a lot more difficult. Where as with deeper you can easily move around if you don't have fish below you. Why would I spent 20 times the money if i like to hole hop and fish in hard to get to places? And once again, maybe you have unlimited amount of money, but 5k is not a easy purchase for majority of people based on the average income in USA and Canada. That's not mentioning a lot of fishermen are in school still with no income. All I'm trying to say is that deeper is a good cheap option for people, not saying it's better than lives cope.
@@Skank_Hunt42 well you just watched a video with a person who owns a deeper. And in the video he showed that it works fairly good. Personally I would get the Garmin sticker 4 over the deeper but I'm not one to talk bad about something that I don't personally own. Or have "never seen" anyone use.
@@Skank_Hunt42 dude... last time I checked you commented on my initial comment.
@@Skank_Hunt42 imagine having to brag about your bank account to strangers on the internet to feel better 😂.
Live scope is amazing.
Hey Jay hi all the way from Utah awesome video i started ice fishing about 10 years ago I started with a hammer 🔨 and a rod moved up to a used humminbird for 100 bucks moved up to a helix 7 si now im using a panoptix livescope and it is awesome and now i just need to stop buying gear 😁😁
That is awesome!
Thank you
30 years as a sonar and depth sounder tech, easier and less hassle to go fishing at Costco or St. Lawrence Market.
It would be cool to compare the older vintage sonars, like the Lowrance green box. It goes on ebay for about 40$.
I think the 2d deep ball worked better I could c the fish on the 2d over the big sonar screen other than one fish but for the price and weight to carry it out it’s not worth the extra in my eyes but is pretty cool tec tho can’t wait to c where they go with it next
I love my Deeper, especially when where I live only gets solid Ice for 4-8 weeks out of the year.
Yeah’ would be perfect for that!
Exactly
Pretty cool vid. I'd definitely purchase a livescope if I could afford it.....back to my single days I would've definitely purchased something like that! But 12 years later I'd have difficulty affording even 250 dollars for a new sonar. Luckily my Vexilar FL-18 is in it's 18th season and still works great. I did upgrade my underwater camera last year, but I had to sell a lot of my old equipment to afford one.
18th season! Thats awesome!
it was 60 degress in Montana last week...not the best winter lol
Does anyone remember when graphs required paper? Now look how technology is
