  • I love ice fishing gear. In this video I give a side by side comparison on the ice of one of the most expensive and one of the least expensive options for ice fishing electronics. Is Livescope worth the $5000 price tag? You can be the judge for yourself. Thanks for watching!

I have used one for 4 years now. In open water I will have it along in the boat. When I find a rock pile or transition in a spot that I know can be fished through the ice i will mark it. Come ice in I now have waypoints to walk or drive to.
I dont even have the ice transdeucer. The suction cup can be removed and the angle of the deucer adjusted so it hangs parallel to bottom. Works far better than it should. The flasher function also works well but you need to have a jigging rap or heavy jig tied on, something like a slender spoon is too small of a profile to see. Have not been able to justify replacing this unit with a dedicated flasher. Just to versatile

You can finally see the fish and everything. Even if you’re just fishing for fun it’s nice to have if you can afford it. The best part about having the livescope is you can use it both in hard and open water which makes it worth it also.

For $240 US you can buy the Garmin Striker 4 portable kit with their ice transducer. The regular portable kit with a tradition ducer for open water use (that works under the ice too in a pinch) is on sale right now for $180. And I'd say it's superior to anything else under $300. Be interested to see what you think.

Battery lasts all weekend on a 8ah, it's light weight, It has a 16 degree cone, traditional graph or flasher style. The only downside is it takes a little technique to get the transducer to aim correctly but still does the trick. For 80 bucks you can get the ice transducer and that issue would be solved. Amazing! It is so neat to see the fish's attitude. Can you see the same attitude when using Livescope on open water?

@@Skank_Hunt42 you don't think comparing an item with something that cost 20 times the amount will bring up it's value?
Of course the livescope is better. But is it 20 times better? Of its 20 times better, what percentage of people actually has 5k laying around to buy it?

    • @LuRanOutdoors

@@Skank_Hunt42 that's all based on personal opinion and preference. I have access to a traditional unit and the lives cope. And frankly speaking I catch the same amount of fish with both devices. Sure the live scope is a lot more fun to use. However, like Jay said you almost need a dedicated sled for it. And it makes hole hopping a lot more difficult. Where as with deeper you can easily move around if you don't have fish below you. Why would I spent 20 times the money if i like to hole hop and fish in hard to get to places? And once again, maybe you have unlimited amount of money, but 5k is not a easy purchase for majority of people based on the average income in USA and Canada. That's not mentioning a lot of fishermen are in school still with no income. All I'm trying to say is that deeper is a good cheap option for people, not saying it's better than lives cope.

@@Skank_Hunt42 well you just watched a video with a person who owns a deeper. And in the video he showed that it works fairly good. Personally I would get the Garmin sticker 4 over the deeper but I'm not one to talk bad about something that I don't personally own. Or have "never seen" anyone use.

30 years as a sonar and depth sounder tech, easier and less hassle to go fishing at Costco or St. Lawrence Market.

It would be cool to compare the older vintage sonars, like the Lowrance green box. It goes on ebay for about 40$.

I think the 2d deep ball worked better I could c the fish on the 2d over the big sonar screen other than one fish but for the price and weight to carry it out it’s not worth the extra in my eyes but is pretty cool tec tho can’t wait to c where they go with it next

I love my Deeper, especially when where I live only gets solid Ice for 4-8 weeks out of the year.

Pretty cool vid. I'd definitely purchase a livescope if I could afford it.....back to my single days I would've definitely purchased something like that! But 12 years later I'd have difficulty affording even 250 dollars for a new sonar. Luckily my Vexilar FL-18 is in it's 18th season and still works great. I did upgrade my underwater camera last year, but I had to sell a lot of my old equipment to afford one.
