3:10 The restricted case for linear relations may not be enough for the video, but it's enough for me. Any function can be treated as a linear relation for an infinitesimally small region, just as long as the function is continuous over that region. Derivatives are nothing but the slope of a function along an infinitesimally small region, so if two arbitrary functions can be treated as linear relations within that region, and the composition of linear relations is known, and the composition is itself a linear relation, and we know the derivative of an arbitrary linear relation, then we know the derivative for the composition of the two arbitrary functions.
