Did you know that LittleBigPlanet 2 for PS3, technically had false advertising in one of its box arts?
In the US box art of the game, you can clearly see what looks like a sackperson controlling a sackbot using the controlinator.
Believe it or not, this was not a feature in the final game, however, In the announcement trailer for LBP2, sackbots can be seen with controlinators attached to their body.
Yes, you can imitate this in the final game with logic of course, but you can’t physically place the controlinator on a sackbot like it's portrayed in the US box art and in the announcement trailer.
It's definitely not intentional false advertising though, as the feature was present in early versions of LBP2. I'm sure it was just cut shortly after the box art was made so nothing malicious was going on behind the scenes at media molecule.

It might have been that shortly after that they gave Sackbots the ability to use Controlinators. Which mightve caused some errors with a) Sackbots trying to use the controlinator that is on themselvews and b) Having a Sackbot with a controlinator on use a controlinator on another Sackbot. You might've been able to chain them into some kind of game breaking sackbot centipede.
i just want the journey home dlc to not have achievements so i can actually 100% the game instead of buying 2 more controllers for it
the problem actually seems to be that the controllinator only follows the sackbot's torso, so if you put it on it's head for example, it would not move with it
it was a test probably, it could had caused errors so they removed it probably. But you can do this in lbp3 if a player selects a sackbot and a material with the cursor and R2 and a another player places a controllinator on the same sackbot the other player is holding.
no you can still control the sackbot with controlinator you just had to place it inside the circuit where you would get a triangle in the middle, this was used in games that requires you to wear a specific outfit or if you wanted to give the bot specific abilities for the players the reason why it's not like the one in the trailer is because they simple made the players and the controller invisible for scaling proposes

This was everything to me. I tried really hard to program a controllable cloud and Sephiroth sackbot based on abilities from the Dissidia games, good times.
I used to make maps back then and from what I remember, it was possible to place the Controlinator inside the bot's circuit board and control it that way. It makes the controlling player invisible and looks a lot cleaner actually. I wouldn't label it as false advertising.

A similar thing called a saddle was planned for LBP3 and its code still exists.

I do remember a glitch in the game where, for a time, you really could stick controllinators directly onto the sackbots. It wasnt advantagous though because if the sackbot died, you died too.

False advertising for video games? That’s totally a common practice nowadays lol
That's why most games trailers have a text at the bottom of the video saying "this is work in progress, subject may change"
So you can achieve the exact same effect by placing a controllinator on a piece of cardboard, changing the setting to have the player sit up-right, and bolting the cardboard to the sackbot (caveman simplicity)
so while it won't be as crisp looking as the built-in trailer version, its virtually the same thing

I thought this! I made a level in LBP 1 which had a sackbot statue with a controllernator on it! I was so disappointed when LBP 2 came out and you couldn’t do it
This is a unironically false advertising. When I was a kid I used to get so frustrated because I couldn’t put a controlinator on a sackbot.

little big planet 2 is such a good sandbox game that even something that wasn't supposed to be in the game, was made in the game by players (kinda)
Not to mention that the trailer felt like a demo for LBP2, especially seeing DaVinci in his earlier design before getting his 2D glasses upon release.
Makes so much more sense now! I remember being younger playing Avalon's part and wondering when I'd be able to ride a sackbot like in the trailer lol, awesome vid!
Danggg I really miss the game, basketball, racing, even Pool! Really loved the game too much, I just can't get into LBP3, felt like something is missing apparently.

I actually found a community level that haves this same sackbot but i forgot which one. Might try to find it again.
It was still done though I remember a couple creations I’d spawn in the moon like the teleporting ninja . That one was good .
The feature should've been kept. Assuming you could still make the controllinator invisible, it would've been a quicker and easier way to give players in your levels custom traits/abilities.

there were hella games made by the community where you controlled a sackbot that had extra abilities and all
when I was 12 me and a friend made a parkour level where you controlled sackbots that could double jump

Bolts can be placed on sackbots. So you'd use a hologram and you could use the bolt to connect it to the sackbot

Before they patched it you could bolt your sackboy and bots to things that's how I did it without logics a hologram bolted to the bot and a controller sitting up right.
I bet they only put that there to make the game look more creative so it's not really false advertised but if you think it the other way

It's not false advertising because they don't advertise it's possible. It's part of the artwork
