- In 1957, Jayne Mansfield came to the Netherlands to promote her movie "Will success spoil Rock Hunter?" (Dutch title "Oh, kus me zo"). She was interviewed by Dutch actor and comedian Wim Sonneveld for VARA television. It was broadcasted as part of the television show "Mensen, dingen, nu" (People, things, now) on 11 October 1957. (English spoken, no subtitles).
Jayne was only in her mid-twenties here but was so poised and well-spoken.
And sad she passed at age 34 years young,Beautiful and intelligent
Didnt know it was bensons mum mariska Hargitay from law and order wow....😀😀✌✌
That’s been the norm for hundreds of years. It’s only the past couple of decades that there’s been a tendency for people to have an extended adolescence well into their twenties.
She was so ahead of her time !!!
She is so beautiful and her voice is so soothing in this interview. There will never be another Jayne Mansfield. It's a shame more people don't know what a trail blazer she was for actresses that came afterwards.
Hi Facebook friend I'm RIPink
You are so Right !!!
She is a man
@@rodrigonapolestorres6366 Maybe you should get a good shrink?
There will never be another Jayne Mansfield ??!! Wow !!?? Really ??!! I thought there'd be 5 more, exact replica's ?? Why do ppl say this fkn OBVIOUS statement ? We are all unique...
She would have been great doing the voice of a Disney Princess. She sounds like one!
Such a lovely woman and voice.
Stunning in every way!
Aw she's so lovely and right on the ball with her responses. I also love the way she looks at the camera often to include the audience. It does look a bit out of the norm but she did that a lot in her interviews. I think that was a nice touch.
She got the questions before the interview

Jayne was so soft spoken intelligent and pleasant. There was far more to her than just her Busty Blonde Soppy character. RIP Jayne you are missed.
Well do you see similar thing about Marilyn Monroe
People say that Jayne and Marilyn was smarter then people thinks ,and both dies young and married, divorced, and has many lovers,of course Jayne had 5 children ,Marilyn was pregnant but lost the baby ,not sure 1 or more
Both had dark hair but changed for blond 👱♀️ I think Her daughter looks so much like Her especially when She is smiling ,Mariska
Is strange that Jayne father dies in car accident when Jayne was 3 years and was with him in the car,and the same happened to Jayne ,car, crash and Mariska was in the back seat 💺 when She was only 3 years old ,so sad that She lost her Mum so young ,all children were young ,only the oldest was 16 years ,first born Jayne Maria Mansfield the same name as her Mum
Man! She was beautiful, intelligent, witty and charming. It's just too Sad God wanted her home so soon.
Samuel Singleton you don't know if she's in Heaven or in Hell.
Mazot Hortlak
Wow, that was a nasty thing to say, *especially* to a stranger on the internet.
"God wanted her home" She was a satanist....
@@SG-hd1qg she was born a Methodist and died a Roman Catholic. That was a silly publicity stunt one of many.
@@lancedukel3436 really?
She's so witty. It's very much astounding.
I notice during allier interviews she looks at the camera a lot during answer's. As if including her audience direct. It's quite refreshing.
A very lovely person and very clever!
Amazing how her career just exploded in 1957 with 3 movies in one year alone. Shame she was taken from us so fast. She would've made so many more good movies.
She's really lovely
She was so beautiful and sweetly spoken and very balanced with her answers. Why oh why Hollywood portrays such lovely women blond and dumb. She was intelligent and well spoken.
Because she kept going out and "accidentally" flashing people to get her pictures in the paper. It was her doing for publicity. Hollywood has nothing to do with that. It's kind of hard to see her acting so poised and sophisticated in this interview while seeing her get drunk and act cheaply in public.
@@Kaboomboo that was later on. She was A list for a bit.
@@lancedukel3436 She was A list for like 2 weeks. She had two moderately successful pictures in which she starred. Then she kept getting pregnant and had to turn down movie roles. In Kiss Them for Me with Cary Grant she was just the comic relief, not the co-star, that was Susie Parker. This interview was in 1957 and Jayne was already acting trashy. This was the same year she crashed Sophia Loren's press party and kept bending over in front of her every time they took a picture of Sophia. It was trashy and it was obvious what she was trying to do. Her drinking wasn't so bad yet, but her publicity and willingness to do anything to have her picture taken quickly cheapened her image. She should've stopped trying to copy Marilyn Monroe after her first two movies and turned herself into something else.
Shy dyed her hair. But I agree with you.
Adorable!
She was smart and funny too
Jayne Mansfield was clearly more intelligent and articulate than she was given credit for... But notice how she slipped into the "Rita Marlowe" persona in the final seconds of this interview ;) She was typecast and though it probably frustrated her, she encouraged it herself a lot :)
I wouldn't say that. She was marveled for being a well spoken lady. Unfortunately being well spoken doesn't save you from a reputation of being trashy. And she definitely became trashy towards the end.
Yes I,know what you mean. I don't like her doing that silly Rita Marlow character. However there ARE some interviews on You Tube where she is herself, her normal speaking voice and she's lovely. Also there's an Alfred Hitchcock Hour she is in called 'Hangover' she is GREAT in it and looks really modern day.
@@mikehudson8884 oh wow I will definitely check out that episode of the Alfred Hitchcock hour. I didn't realise they collaborated. Thanks for sharing.
Beauty and brains. IQ off the charts and her intelligence comes through loud and clear.
She had an IQ of 163, spoke 5 different languages, and played various instruments. She was far more than just "fairly" intelligent. A genius, she was.
DeMario Scimio
IMO, those statistics were heavily embellished.
@@edinburgh1578 What does being a sex symbol have to do with one's intelligence? People take the opportunities available to them.
@@edinburgh1578 Jayne apparently took an IQ test in high school, but there's no record of what sort. The subject of her intelligence has been bandied about for decades; her biographer Eve Gordon wrote that the quotient figure wasn't important, it was how Jayne used her intellect. And for the most part this was exceedingly well, with those who dismissed her as just a dumb sex symbol often highly impressed with how savvy she could be.
Yep, her persona to the public was an act.
She was highly intelligent, did speak many languages and was a much better at playing both the piano and violin than 99% of the population. And a natural beauty you played several roles without heavy makeup.
What a gorgeous intelligent woman
Great to watch. I am from the Netherlands, so I understand both the English and Dutch words in this superb video of Jayne Mansfield. Wim Sonneveld was also famous in the Netherlands.
wooow :D she is a stunner and very intelligent!
Her voice is so soft and sweet.
No wonder Mickey Hargitay fell for her. A soft voice is priceless. You can tell that she was a Daddy's girl. She is so cute.
Wow the sound quality is super clear here!
She talked and acted more herself, which is much more interesting than the persona she became.
Very good interview, it looks wonderful too! Thank you for putting this up!
I have always found her to be bright and beautiful. Also an animal lover.
My incarnation 🌸 RIPink
She is so cerebral, it's a turn on....I could sit, listen, and stare into her eyes whenever I look up.
She was a very intelligent woman
I think she was beautiful and i did not realize that Mariska and her really had that much similarities facially.
She favors both parents
Her maiden name was Palmer. The surname Palmer refers to the palm fronds that a mediaeval English Catholic man would bring back from the holy land, where he had gone to on pilgrimage, to prove that he'd been to the holy land, and so he and any other mediaeval English Catholic man who'd done the same thing, would henceforth be called Palmer.
i love her!
she was beautiful
What a dame!
That ending's hilarious...
Haha yeah I was thinking the same
I love that guy who interviewed Her ,saying Miss ,and He is so polite with Her
I think Her european hungarian husband Hartigay was the best husband i think and best man for Her
So beautiful
I'm very impressed by how beautiful, articulated, and smart she was. It's very sad that Hollywood labeled her as "dumb sexy blond". Obviously, the production companies are the dumb ones.
I hate it when they compare her and Diana Dors to Marilyn Monroe, because they are nothing alike. All three great actresses though. Jayne is stunning in this video
Lovely Jane,,my favourite girl,,xxxxxxxx♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
A unique woman: sexy, womanly, intelligent, charming...you name it.
She did so much in her short life. 5 children, her career and she was super smart. Very sexy
Evolution of guys complimenting girls
1950s - ain't she a doll?
1960s - golly she's cute
1970s - she's groovy
1980s - whoa baby!
1990s - ay sexy
2000s - oh she's fucking hot!
2010s -She my bitch nigga!
lol
raquel monge Lol Ik! By the next 50s people will be talking in a different language. Maybe they'll say "oh she a doll bieh!"
Yes it is the mainstreaming of hip hop culture which is the problem. Some call it "rape music" instead of rap music.
Nice!
absolument charmante!
JEJE2361
Oui!
Wim S. was a big star in Holland but is clearly rehearsed and uncomfortably acting/trying to appear comfortable.A true pro in his act but comes across cold and "straight". Interesting footage.
super cute!
She seems more together and more charismatic than marilyn
Hear hear!
You can tell that actually, she was a fairly Intelligent woman and that the dumb blonde act was just that, an act. That's the great mystery about Jayne, one isn't always sure where the act ends and the real woman begins. I do think that she made some poor career choices, she acted in some pretty poor films.
I agree . But when you are under contract with a major studio you had little choice !!!
One watches her movies, which are generally quite bad, and there are moments where you feel you are seeing the real Jayne, and then the director hits the Marilyn-pastiche button and one's interest wanes.
Beauty and brains. IQ 160+ and so sweet.
I agree about the poor films she was given. She was good in the early films before that awful Rita Marlow persona. "Illegal" (1955) and "The Wayward Bus" (1957) also she was brilliant in an Alfred Hitchock Presents "Hangover" in the arly 60s.
Uau!!!!!!!!
Lol that walk at the end was stiff as fuck but still beautiful and graceful
She was so pretty and genuinely nice. More beautiful than Marilyn.
june stop comparing 2 iconic women, always gotta make it a competition
You can tell by her answers that she is quite intelligent. Apparently she had an I.Q of 170.
It was a 163 IQ . Which is still incredible !!!
Jayne Mansfield's IQ varied from 160 - 167. She was an actual genius although she never was in the Genus Society as is several famous people. At age 5 she taught herself the first of 7 instrument's. Later on in high school, she learned French and Spanish. At Texas University @ El Paso, she learned German, Hungarian and one other language. The Hungarian worked out for her when she married Mickey Spillane. He migrated from Hungary and as husband and wife, they could argue in Hungarian and the children would be so confused.Sadly, in 1967, Jayne Mansfield was killed when her car crashed into the back of flatbed truck outside of New Orleans. She was not decapitated, despite the rumors. Jayne Mansfield was wearing hr blond wig and probably had the hair covered. The force of the accident sent the wig and cover over th back seat.Nobody in the front seat survived. Mariska Hargitay, Jayne Mansfield's youngest, and the 2 other children were rushed to the hospital for check-ups. Each of those in the front seat, after the New Orleans Fire Department pried them out, were also rushed to the hospital. Jayne Mansfield's second and third husband's were notified. Jayne Mansfield is buried at home in Pennsylvania.
very pretty lady
Isn't she lovely!
he's got a woody
@jurriaan Adema i thought he was!
Is he trying to make fun of her ? Well, he's just ridiculous, while she's lovely and well spoken.
He is not trying to make fun of her. On the contrary to have such a major star stop by in Nederland in those days was an extremely rare occasion and he would be most honoured.
I like Jane Mansfield better than Marilyn Monroe, she’s a lot more articulate and talented.
Let's not get carried away shall we....
@@MrGemini8617 Why not? Jayne was happy, Marilyn was miserable.
@@lancedukel3436 So? Jayne did have happiness for awhile but she likely was not very happy in her last years, struggling to still be seen as relevant in a changing time. Marilyn had a terrible childhood with neglect and sexual abuse. You likely wouldn't have been the happiest most well adjusted person having dealt with that either. Marilyn was quite articulate and intelligent in her own right. Saying that Jayne was more talented than Marilyn is also simply not true. The reality is that they both were typecast into "dumb blonde," roles yet neither of them was remotely dumb.
@@ccgrey8731 I never said Monroe wasn't intelligent. I said she was miserable. I personally adore Monroe. I love Mamie Van Doren too who is still alive and an iconic blonde bombshell . Jayne however, was a phenom, a living piece of pop art. Next to Elvis no one encapsulated what the 1950's were more than Jayne.
I like her minus the satanism stuff
The ending is so cheesy 😅
I am of mixed race and I dont see Color. I give credit where do. My opinion is that Jayne was better looking than Marilyn Monroe....The women back in this era of time where so feminine and much more classier than women of the 20th century👍👜👗📿
Don't you mean 21st Century
You must have a blind spot

An hoplessly exhibitionist, whereof every act was a fake, a total void.
Wrong
Wrong , untelligent, young mother of 5,responsible and great beauty
Not wrong. She was an exhibitionist. I wouldn't say a void or fake but she definitely put on airs to be noticed. The real jayne was kind and witty. But she was also short sighted in her antics, not realizing it was cheapening herself.
And what else could I ask? Beautiful face, big pair, exquisite scream, delicious moan, she'd only tell the lines I asked her to learn. Did I say "null brain"? Not exactly, maybe I should say interestingly "bypassed".
Fake...
