    Hey David I do "Crazy" as well I have a suggestion that some might find useful: When Playing a song where the chord changes from minor to major (or vice versa) you can loop the chord WITHOUT the third of the chord. Then you can play either major or minor on the fly.

    So not only did you help me nail the timing aspect of looping in your "6 Tips" video, but this was the other topic I was concerned about being new to looping! Great job with this David.
    I have been playing music (muti-instrumentalist) for almost 30 years now both live and studio. The Studio "One-Man-Band" deal is always something I have done for demos and album work.
    Looping was always the "Dream Solo Act" that I have bwanted to do for20 years now. So I finally bought all of the gear and highly underestimated how much thought and practice needs to go into an act like this! Your videos have been extremely helpful in filling in those knowledge/experience gaps.
    Looping is a completely different beast of an art form that is such a cool act when done correctly. It's artists like you who make it look effortless and I hope to get there soon. Maybe even be able to give back to the CZcams community as you have fotoll the guys/gals that need it like I did.
    Cheers, David!

    I ordered the vl3x to replace my old vocal harmony pedal. Suddenly I've been sucked into this world of looping and for some strange reason I feel compelled to loop the hell out of everything. Seriously though, great vid for people like me who thought a looper just went round and round until your head fell off. After about an hour on youtube this morning I came up with a list of very do-able covers I think I could pull off.I just added 'crazy' to the list thanks. Maybe I'll come back when I have compiled a setlist. "give it away, give it away now" is going round in my head right now... I have to go now, my acoustic is calling.

    You have a great voice. Very expressive! 👍
    On the looping, my Valeton GP200 looper has undo/redo footswitch, so I can record 4 bars then put something over it (like 4 bars of chorus stuff), then use the undo/redo button to switch between the looper playing chorus or verse. Obviously the original underlying 4 bars will be the same on chorus/verse but it can still give a good result!

    Hi David, thanks for the in depth thougths. Another option can also be to jump between memory locations while a loop is playing. If the looper continues to play without missing a beat, it will allow one to perfrom a song with more parts or variations. This feature is quite common in electronic synths and sequencers. Once can copy parts from one memory location to another - either while performaing or may be in advance - and then build different layers in different memory locations and swith between them while performing using on board or external foot switches.

    Hi mate.
    Love your videos, I'm wondering if you could do a video where you explain how to make loops sound less muddy, the more layers I add he more busy it sounds and the frequencies clash.
    I loop using Ableton and have all audio effects available I just need some advice how to use them when looping guitar.
    Would be really happy if you could do a video like this, all looping tip videos on CZcams just talk about timing really and not sound quality.

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  Před 10 měsíci +1

      ah awesome question and suggestion! Yep for sure i'll make a note. The main tools for this are EQ on your guitar/looping channel, the volume of each loop you create as you make/loop it, and then lastly spreading out where on the guitar or frequency you are adding things. Eg if you add layers of the same open chords (for some reason), you're bunching up adding all the same frequencies on repeat. For starters though and before I get to make a video - trying an EQ removing a few db somewhere between 200-400hz - don't overdo it or your mix will sound thin, but this may clear up some of what you're encountering! That will often remove general muddiness in a looped mix.
