Have you ever stumbled upon a place that was simply amazing…so amazing that you could hardly wait to go back? For me, that place is Doris Campground in Oklahoma. I first visited in January of 2020. Ever since then, my mind keeps flashing back to all the good times I had during my visit. When my memories of it just wouldn’t go away, I knew I had to go back for another visit.
Top 10 reasons why I love this place so much:
1. The abundance of wildlife! While I was there, I saw longhorn steer, bison, deer, turkeys, turtles, and lots of birds.
2. The abundance of lakes adds to its beautiful scenery. There are a total of 13 lakes within the refuge.
3. Lots of great hiking trails! There are about 15 miles of marked trails.
4. While many newer RV parks tend to remind me of a bland & boring parking lot, this place has so much character. It’s loaded with lots of trees which provide for a sense of both peacefulness and privacy.
5. At night, it’s extremely dark & peaceful. It’s so dark that it’s nearly impossible to find the bath house without a flashlight. The only noise comes from the howling coyotes off in the distance.
6. There’s no cell service, which makes it much easier to remain present and enjoy your camping experience. But, if you do need to grab cell service, Crater Lake has a solid signal and is just 2.3 miles away.
7. Meers Store & Restaurant is just 9 miles away. It’s a great place to grab dinner as they’re well-known for their 1-pound hamburgers!
8. They have a brand new bath house. They also have multiple new vault toilets, which are surprisingly nice.
9. Because it’s a Wildlife Refuge, the deer are quite tame and so much fun to watch.
10. I feel like it’s such a healthy place to visit. The trees & wildlife and rivers & lakes are full of good vibes & positive energy. This area allows for time to heal and even find a bit of mental clarity!!
Doris Campground contains 23 electric sites, 47 non-electric sites, 20 semi-primitive (walk-in tent sites), and 3 group sites. Most campsites are sizable enough for RVs and trailers. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Roads are paved. Flush toilets and showers are provided within easy walking distance of a centrally located bath house. Water is available via water stations throughout the campground. A dump station is provided for RVs and trailers.

ABOUT ME:
► I grew up in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated with a Marketing degree from Oakland University.
► I moved to Longmont, CO in November 2016 and fell in love with all the beautiful hiking trails that Colorado has to offer. So, in April 2012, the Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show was born.
► In November 2019, I took a 4-month camping trip in my pop-up camper. This gave me an opportunity to travel, explore, unwind, and create lots of great videos.
► In December 2020, I began recording a series of downhill skiing videos in Colorado. These quickly became popular and my passion for CZcams was re-ignited!
► I actually had so many great memories of my first camping trip that I decided to do another one. So, in April 2021, I converted a 12-foot enclosed trailer into a camper and documented the whole process.
► In June 2021, I reached 1,000 subscribers and was able to monetize my channel.
► By January 2023, I was already at 2,000 subscribers and counting!
► The Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show allows me to share all of my experiences with you. Join me on my adventure as I talk about life, laughter, exploration, and creating content for CZcams...enjoy!

Those areas in the wichita mountains are beautiful
Camped there numerous times and it is a wonderful place!
Me and the wife go down couple times a year. Usually stay in medicine park but spend the day on the refuge. A truly wonderful and fascinating place.
I fell in love with the Wichita Mountains in 1985. 2025 Will mark my retirement from 30 years of governmental service and I'll be on the first thing smoking out of North Carolina and back to the refuge. Thanks for the video.
❤Excellent biking routes also.❤
Excellent fishing lakes 😊 (13.)
I have been camping/hiking the Wichita Mountains for 53yrs now. At least 200 separate times. It's best after good rains get the creeks running in the spring with spectacular wildflowers and painted buntings. Fall season with bugeling elk, bison, and white tailed deer. The mountains themselves are unique and spectacular. It would take hours to write an accurate description.
When I lived in Springfield MO I went camping at there a couple of times on the lake by the dam. I found the pink granite interesting. Being from San Diego it reminded me of Southern California. Another interesting place near by is Mt.Scot. My father was stationed at Fort Sill. I'm now back in SoCal ,but would love to return to visit sometime. ❤
Those turkeys get fed by campers…. They’re locals! Im an Okie and have camped here for years. Center of the universe as far as I’m concerned.
A very informative video, thanks.
Do you know if the campground electric posts have 110 volt outlets or do they use the 50 amp recepticle?
Was at Doris towards the end of Sept and was told the old bath house is permanently closed
I think they decided the water source is not safe.
Climb up Baldy Mountain for cell service. 🤣
The lake was named after my great grandfather
I was soooo mad. I went thee expecting to camp, but they said stupid online so had to sleep in the car places to hide. I wanted to set up a tent grrrr
Do you what time check in is
Check-in: 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Check-out: 12:00 PM
