Toonami's dub of DB censored Jackie Chun's drunken boxing? In the Canadian dub they just downright said he was drunk. Yamcha even says, "He's only pretending to be tipsy!" for Goku to respond with, "Oh! Grandpa used to get like this all the time, and he'd hit me real hard!" Canada, we make jokes about child abuse in our shows for children. I'd also imagine that water would be hard to find while in space, and would be a valuable commodity for Frieza and his men, and that only the higher ranking people (such as Zarbon, Dododira, the Ginyu Force, and yes, Frieza himself) would be capable of drinking it. Kinda like how in Fist of the North Star, or Mad Max, how water is more desirable than wine or beer. It hydrates you better than wine does. And honestly, who the fuck cares if Blueberry or Cui end up dying from dehydration? Nobody, that's fucking who. And not to defend 4Kids, but I think fruit juice suits Pegasus' manchild persona (which they seemed to be going for) a lot better. A kid's not going to typically drink wine, but they would drink juice out of a wine glass, just for the looks.
The Toonami dub was basically the Funimation dub with certain lines redubbed for Toonami and scenes cut out. In the DVD releases, the Funimation dub talks about him being drunk, so it's hard to find that clip. They changed a lot of lines for Toonami, like Roshi asking to see Bulma's belly button instead of underwear when Goku and Bulma meet Master Roshi. Anyway, I like your logic of the alcohol edits! The Pegasus one actually makes a lot of sense. I think 4Kids got clever with their censorship on occasion (but mostly not).
4Kids was shockingly clever with censorship. Some times I hate them for it, because they would censor things that could never be construed as offensive, but then with Pegasus' juice, or some of the stuff in Ultimate Muscle I just have to commend them on.. (which, I'm not sure if you've seen or talked about UM, but if you ever do cover it, it's one of the most creative shonen anime out there. And heck, I could talk about Ultimate Muscle for days, which is why I never talk about it in my videos, since I'd be there all fucking day).

I don't know how the scene went in the original version, but I always thought the visuals of the scene were unaltered since they showed the beer. I know the dialogue was since there's no way a man who can eat infinite amounts of food would find one beer filling. If they did edit the beer can for the sake of that mini-PSA, it would have been eligible. Not sure if I would have included it since I already had two DBZ entries, but a screencap of that scene showing up in the intro, outro and thumbnail was a good consolation prize.

Y’know i don’t think it would have been hard to edit the beer mugs to coffee mugs. Characters acting drunk could maybe be changed to them acting hyper on coffee, hangovers can be changed to that sort of sugar crash feeling you can get when coffee wears off and bars can be changed to cafés.

Woah, this video's a throwback! I forget the context of what I was saying, but I was probably just focusing on wine in the Japanese versions were changed to something else, but the way in which it was changed drew attention to the drink more than if they just left it as an unspecified bottle. We used to sound more serious about the jokes we made, which is something I think we've learned more about in the 6 years since this video has come out.

Meiling from Cardcaptors Sakura is the girl right at the beginning. The dub had an awful amount of changes and it was dubbed by Nelvana, who did worse than 4kids in my opinion. Anime Girl's icons are like Freeza where they constantly change forms to fit what she's saying. We sort of made a joke about this in our "Top Ten Witches" video where her character image changes 4 times in the span of 10 seconds.

I don't know why they had to change this line. seems like censorship. I thought Funimation tries to be the opposite of 4KIDS.... HARDCORE! Meiling from Cardcaptors Sakura is the girl right at the beginning. The dub had an awful amount of changes and it was dubbed by Nelvana, who did worse than 4kids in my opinion. Anime Girl's icons are like Freeza where they constantly change forms to fit what she's saying. We sort of made a joke about this in our "Top Ten Witches" video where her character image changes 4 times in the span of 10 seconds.

in the bad english dub by a bunch of constipated Texans who are trying to sound like california girls aka FUNiMATION, Cana asks Lucy for "an adult bervege" in the sub she asks for alcohol. I don't know why they had to change this line. seems like censorship. I thought Funimation tries to be the opposite of 4KIDS.... HARDCORE! EDGY! they both still suck and butcher animes reputation.
