  • Next into The Den is the founder and president of Moxie Trades, Marissa McTasney. She left her corporate job to design a groundbreaking line of construction gear for women.
    She's ready to hammer home a Dragon deal and is asking for 600K in return for 49% of her business, but Robert and Brett want 25% more stake in her company. Will she let the men muscle in on Moxie Trades?

      @one headlight our economy is mainly private businesses for profit aka capitalism. socialism is when the communities have means of production for commodities that are non-profit.

      @@jaydenandreola4672 that’s not capitalism.. how much does the government take from those businesses to pay for socialized welfare, healthcare, etc? As soon as a government feels the need to take from their people so much that you have to rely on them for basic commodities then you are no longer living in a capitalist economy. The US is in the same boat. Overspending and inefficiency has really sunk the economy and innovation out of our competitive businesses. Regulation and bureaucracy makes it difficult to change and make the system more efficient. For example the IRS DMV and several other agencies don’t even need to exist in the United States with the invention of Blockchain technology but that will never happen in the near future because of the grasp the government has over its people

      I dont even know why she was ever on the show other than being a millionair, Some of the people you see come and go on these shows worlwide is laughable! Just because someone made 1 business a success doesnt mean they have the capabilities to run 10+ businesses in the same direction! She never seems to go for a deal on her own back but relies on what the others have to say before adding her own useless 2 cents to the conversation! Honestly back in those days Kevin would have been the only person I would trust to help make my company a multi million dollar successes!

    I feel weird, I like that she is making clothing for women in a male-dominated industry, but did she really say she made everything pink?? That lost me... I would hate to buy something and the only option was 'GIRLY PINK'...

      Totally agree. I like the idea that the clothing/boots are made to better fit women but I don't feel the need to scream, look at me I'm a girl at any job, I just like the idea that they may fit better and let my performance on the job speak for me rather than my gender.

  • @marks6663
    @marks6663 Pƙed 3 lety +6

    how does asking for more equity protect the investor? The business will grow or die. If it dies, what good is it to own a larger share of a failed enterprise? You just own more debt. You are legally on the hook for more liability. There are no assets in these start up businesses to liquidate. They are all a crapshoot. So if the risk of failure is higher, owning a larger share does nothing to insulate you from a financial loss.

    • @marks6663
      @marks6663 Pƙed 2 lety

      @Something Nice they won't get their money back if the business fails. Which is what they say they're concerned about.

    • @matthewbell4273
      @matthewbell4273 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      A shareholder is not generally “legally on the hook for more liability” by owning more equity. Unless the shareholder has signed a personal guarantee (making them personally liable for company debt), which is unlikely in a case like this, then the shareholder has no liability for the company’s debt. The shareholder’s liability is “limited” (hence the name “limited company”) to the level of the nominal value of the share (which may for example just be 1 dollar or 1 cent (or sometimes even just a fraction of 1 cent) per share; something very small and totally unconnected with the company’s actual value). If that nominal value in respect of that share has already been “paid up” (which means paid into the company by the shareholder), and there is no personal guarantee, then that is the extent of the shareholder’s legal liability, and so under those circumstances it is nearly always better to own more equity.
