- Next into The Den is the founder and president of Moxie Trades, Marissa McTasney. She left her corporate job to design a groundbreaking line of construction gear for women.
She's ready to hammer home a Dragon deal and is asking for 600K in return for 49% of her business, but Robert and Brett want 25% more stake in her company. Will she let the men muscle in on Moxie Trades?

This is the official channel for Dragons' Den Canada. An international sensation, which features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.
Dragons Den Canada is brutal, I've seen more 50% + equity deals than any other country
There is no way to make money in a socialist country unless you have a massive margin.. Taxes are 50+% also
@@oneheadlight8000 Apparently Canada is socialist now?
@@jaydenandreola4672 what about them is not?
@one headlight our economy is mainly private businesses for profit aka capitalism. socialism is when the communities have means of production for commodities that are non-profit.
@@jaydenandreola4672 thatâs not capitalism.. how much does the government take from those businesses to pay for socialized welfare, healthcare, etc? As soon as a government feels the need to take from their people so much that you have to rely on them for basic commodities then you are no longer living in a capitalist economy. The US is in the same boat. Overspending and inefficiency has really sunk the economy and innovation out of our competitive businesses. Regulation and bureaucracy makes it difficult to change and make the system more efficient. For example the IRS DMV and several other agencies donât even need to exist in the United States with the invention of Blockchain technology but that will never happen in the near future because of the grasp the government has over its people
update: from reading the website brett became a part owner and then in 2015 she gained full control of the business
She seems to just need a loan of $600K. I wouldnât give up any equity either.
Arleen once again waiting to make sure the men thinks itâs a good deal.
I dont even know why she was ever on the show other than being a millionair, Some of the people you see come and go on these shows worlwide is laughable! Just because someone made 1 business a success doesnt mean they have the capabilities to run 10+ businesses in the same direction! She never seems to go for a deal on her own back but relies on what the others have to say before adding her own useless 2 cents to the conversation! Honestly back in those days Kevin would have been the only person I would trust to help make my company a multi million dollar successes!
I appreciate her attitude where she isn't acting like men are the big bad fat cats holding the ladies down. It's just a niche market and she could do well to serve it. My sister in law works with us. She is right. There isn't much made for women
I feel weird, I like that she is making clothing for women in a male-dominated industry, but did she really say she made everything pink?? That lost me... I would hate to buy something and the only option was 'GIRLY PINK'...
Totally agree. I like the idea that the clothing/boots are made to better fit women but I don't feel the need to scream, look at me I'm a girl at any job, I just like the idea that they may fit better and let my performance on the job speak for me rather than my gender.
Glad she didn't take the deal. She is going to be successful and she will get another investor.
You know these clips are over 10 years old right?
how does asking for more equity protect the investor? The business will grow or die. If it dies, what good is it to own a larger share of a failed enterprise? You just own more debt. You are legally on the hook for more liability. There are no assets in these start up businesses to liquidate. They are all a crapshoot. So if the risk of failure is higher, owning a larger share does nothing to insulate you from a financial loss.
@Something Nice they won't get their money back if the business fails. Which is what they say they're concerned about.
A shareholder is not generally âlegally on the hook for more liabilityâ by owning more equity. Unless the shareholder has signed a personal guarantee (making them personally liable for company debt), which is unlikely in a case like this, then the shareholder has no liability for the companyâs debt. The shareholderâs liability is âlimitedâ (hence the name âlimited companyâ) to the level of the nominal value of the share (which may for example just be 1 dollar or 1 cent (or sometimes even just a fraction of 1 cent) per share; something very small and totally unconnected with the companyâs actual value). If that nominal value in respect of that share has already been âpaid upâ (which means paid into the company by the shareholder), and there is no personal guarantee, then that is the extent of the shareholderâs legal liability, and so under those circumstances it is nearly always better to own more equity.
She's giving up too much equity.
Well shes not since she didnt take the deal!
@@redacted7634Clearly, they're talking about her other deals outside the den.
@@MoonPresence-fg8dn how is that clear đ€Łđ€Ł
I HAVE MY SAFETY SHOES IN PINK !!! COMFY MORE THAN MANS BOOTS !!!!
Iâm a man I work in the construction field I donât like the color yellow but I wear my high vis because thatâs what weâre supposed to do, I donât show up and declare that I get to wear any color I want because I donât feel like wearing that color. If thatâs how it would start, I would be fired.
Well done!

Smart wise decision
2:14 Ah yes, make your presentation appear as if all of these women are about the pull out duel yeild Beretta 3032 Tomcats
I like the business especially here in Canada I can't see why that wouldn't catch on I've worked with many women in merchandising and other warehouse Jobs.
Smart woman. đŻ
Weird dynamic in da den
But I guess though, if women are on the job site, maybe actually put bathrooms on the job sites for people, so yes, bring them in, because I as a man donât even have the right to go to the bathroom while I work
so which dragon reopened negotiations with marissa?
EDIT: ah.. it was brett.. don't know what the deal was that they made though.
Brett Wilson. It was one of the largest deals done on Dragon's Den Canada.
Thatâs cool, she brought every women that works in construction in all of Canada showing that having a product for 3% of a workforce is worthless. Great job
dead eyes. says it all
Is this official DD canada channel? Why the strange aspect ratio?
It's a older episode
Its the new Canada...Where's the rainbow colored boots..
Wow!
Usually Iâm a little tired of all the woke crap, but this is a good product, the owner is very convincing, and that âbad manâ comment was completely unwarranted.
I mean women aren't really that vain right? No way this product can work only because it's PINK? That's too good to be true.
@@rohilthomson it's not about it being pink it's more work clothes that actually fit women. It's not really about using pink shirts or helmets
Agreed
Arleen out? Oh surprise surprise!
I would be mortified to wear that..looks childish and non credible.
