☆About me:
My name is Sofía and I’m an exchange student in Japan.
*FAQ*
•Where do you come from?
I was born in Mexico and I live in Canada.
•How old are you? 17
•How did you learn to speak Japanese? For how long have you been learning it?
I’ve been learning Japanese on my own on and off since 2015. I learn it by studying out of Japanese-learning textbooks and watching educational CZcams videos. I guess I could say I’m a beginner - intermediate, but I’m constantly learning and practicing to improve my Japanese.
•How did you go on exchange?
I’m on exchange through an exchange program called Rotary.
•For how long will you be staying in Japan?
I’ll be on exchange here for 11 months.
•What grade are you in?
I was placed in 二年 (second grade) in my Japanese high school.
•Are all classes only in Japanese? Yes.
•How far do you live from school?
It takes me about 20 minutes to get to school by train.

@@Star-gf4bj me too🥰🥰🥰😘🥰
Me gustas 🤗
Same even tho I’m 2 years late😭😭
Omg I just found you and I already love your videos!! Question, how long did it take you to learn Japanese and was there a way it made learning the language easier?
I’ve been wanting to learn Japanese for a while now, and now that I’m learning French I think I could do it
Thank youu✨ and I’ve been learning it for about 3 years now but I’m in no way fluent yet haha I still learn a lot but I’m slowly getting there! I’ve always studied Japanese by myself, so I guess the best advice I could give you is to keep yourself motivated and practice practice practice as often as possible. Having learned a second language will definitely be helpful in learning a third so keep it up!
@@sofiainjapan how long do you living in japan?
I work with two Japanese girls and their best advice to me was don't trouble yourself with any Kanji at first as a learner. Just learn how to pronounce words and speak (particularly hiragana and katakana) before you try to learn how to read and write, it's so important! they say my pronunciation is good too so I guess it works XD
OI I’m learning Japanese because I’m going!! I’ll tell you how it goes when the day I leave! :3
Hey Jordan. I've been learning Japanese for the last four and a half years now. 2 and a half on my own and the last 2 years at Uni. It's challenging, but hang tight. My advice:
1) Find a speaking buddy having a native speaker will vastly improve your pronunciation
2) Don't shy away from reading and writing. 90+ characters along with the 1000+ kanji seems like a lot, but writing is key to improving your Japanese. I suggest learning hiragana and katakana read kids manga and baby stories.
3) don't avoid kanji go at the pace of the genki textbook or the jlpt levels when learning kanji. It's a lot I know, but it's well worth it the more vocab you learn while avoiding kanji the harder it is to go back and train yourself to use kanji. That being said don't go on a kanji spree. Learn it in hiragana first then kanji.
4) Grammar, Grammar, Grammar. !!!! Learn grammar speak properly don't just try to wing it by watching people speak a lot. If you're not a native speaker you won't know what to say when like native speakers so you should start learning grammar to speak and write properly. You're probably not living in Japan as you start learning so you won't pick up grammar and convo cues without practice.
5) Keigo and Short form. When you learn Japanese you'll need to learn formal polite Japanese as well as short form. Last thing you want to do is sound informal at work or school and use unneeded long sentences when going out for drinks with friends. Practice formal and informal try to use each with a different speaking buddy while you get the hang of it so you don't get mixed up when you start. LEARN FORMAL FIRST. You can never be too polite in Japan but short form at work would be horrible.
6) Immersion. You may not be able to lay down 1000's to go fly and live in Japan but try to immerse yourself as much as possible. Watch shows, read books, play games in Japanese, listen to music. I'd even say set your cell phone in Japanese. Trust me it's super hard at first but you pick up alot of kanji unknowingly this way.
8) Get a book or a reference guide. I recommend Genki. It's a great book to use, and it's easy to follow.
7) Have fun. Don't stress enjoy it. Japanese is hard so don't be hard on yourself if it takes time.
頑張ってください!
