This slash was one of three NHL dark moments that made me fade away as a fan of the sport; the strike and the assault of Adam Marsh being the other two. Can't let one incident ruin a mans reputation. Also, Crosby flops, complains, and slashes every game, which adds up to more than Ciccarelli's one incident, and Crosby will sure as hell end up in the hall of fame
That's because it was on Canadian soil. He spent the night in jail during investigation for assault and then was released in the morning and done with. A single meh incident doesn't remove you from the HOF. Bertuzzi is going to be there and he essentially paralyzed a guy.
Nobody knows the story behind McSorleys slash,he didn't mean to hit him in the head,his coach told him to go fight him so he tried to slash him in the arm or side to get him to turn around to fight
his excuse to the media after the game was something along the lines of he was trying to get his stick free and ended up hitting Spurg in the face. But if you look at the slowed down version of the play you clearly see him look directly at Spurgeon before committing the slash. As if he made eye contact with his target then attacked
Hey man, just watch it again with what he said in mind. Immediately before he did it was his stick locked up? It was clearly retaliation for the check put on him. Weather he meant to hit him in the face, I don't know.
I would think Wayne Maki on Ted Green would rank #1 since Green nearly died after getting hit in the head with the stick and had a plate put in his head, but of course -- there's no footage of the incident, just old black and white photos.
He definitely did intend to hit him, I feel like that look was him realizing how stupid that move was. If you look at the slowed down replay you clearly see him intentionally hit him. He looks directly at him then slashes him in the face. No accident there.
