    yeah that's great on a cold diesel to crank on it as soon as it starts, o yeah and Im pretty sure the term rolling coal is used when it is running down the road with black smoke comin out, not grey,white and black when your trying to burn up your starter

    • @codyruml7993
      @codyruml7993 Před 10 lety +3

      he is telling the truth rolling coal is not when u starting it up with grey smoke cause its cold. rolling coal like he said is when is been started and its blowing pure black smoke.

    I just did a head gasket on a 12v and it didnt cost 6 grand. It actually cost about $135 and 6 hours time. Every time I cold start, I will hold jsut a c hairs worth of throttle, forcing it to idle at 600rpm when it would otherwise not be able to idle. As soon as I see a full 40psi of oil pressure, I will bring it to 1000 rpm for about 30 seconds and it can then idle by itself until its warm.

      on the cummins with the intake heater instead of glow plugs, isn't the cold start procedure to hold throttle at half way until it starts and then for 3-5 seconds after that? I'm not sure if the gen 1 or 2 are like that but normally it would say on the visor for starting procedure. I could be wrong....

    @doctabuttah1 just so you know it isn't ruining oil. White smoke is from the engine not being at operating temp causing the engine not to burn the fuel fully because the combustion chamber isn't at operating temp...

  • @siuandy1213
    @siuandy1213 Před 10 lety +13

    If I have a diesel turbo, I must plug it in during winter no matter what. When you start the engine, if it did not fire up in the first place after you crank it for 10 sec, you should let the starter rest at least 15 sec, you have no idea how hot the starter is when starting up the engine especially with a lot of resistance in the circuit in low temperature. You didn't let the engine warm up and rev it, it is simply just dumb. You should at least let the engine idle for 3 minutes before you drive it…You can give me shit but it is all I gonna to say.

    It's supposed to have a grid heater,it's the same purpose as glowplugs,but for air.
    This thing should start immediatly like a well tuned diesel engine does.
    Starters are not made to run long whatever the engine.they heat up very quick seen their huge energy consomption.
    slow starting engines are improperly tuned,worn out or too cold.

    John Deere tells us to idle at 1200-1400 when it's cold. It's easier on bearings too because your motor can hurt itself by shaking from idling to low and not being smooth. But keep the speed steady don't just slam the throttle down. If it's still too cold to rev don't push it

    Ideling a cold diesel is harder on it then speeding the engine to about 1500rpm's to warm it on up. Most 7.3idi engines idle too low from the factory anyway and dont get the propper amount of oil up to the heads, we always turned the idle up as soon as we bought one, just to extend the engine life. Until you kids really know a few things about these engines you should just keep quiet.

    Jesus, mine cranks up without even cycling the grid heaters down to about 25 degrees. Below that and I'll cycle the grid heaters once and she fires right up. Very rarely do I need to plug mine in. Something's gotta be wrong with that truck, a mechanical 12 valve should start quickly in the cold.
