    This is so helpful because it gets me to think outside the box. What is possible vs what is the “suppose to” do kind of thinking.

    Such a great project! Very cute, and fun too. I wonder how these paints would hold up for garments. Designs like these would be so cute on a jacket or sweatshirt or something. Hmmm... So many possibilities! Thank you Handi Quilter and Helen Godden! Happy Wednesday everyone!

    So glad I found this video! I thought my machine didn't like sewing on the Lumiere paints, as it did exactly what you described - the stitches wouldn't lie flat and it made a funny clicky noise - now I'm going to do more of it! thank you

    I love the Lumiere paints too. Once ironed before you start the stitching it makes the fabric look and feel like it's satin.

    • @HelenGoddenQuilts
      @HelenGoddenQuilts Před 4 lety

      If you paint a patchwork style design people think you are super clever and have pieced satin fabric.

    I love watching you quilt. This was very fascinating. I never thought about painting on fabric this way. You mentioned you painted on black fabric but what kind of fabric is this. Also how do you set the paint to make it permanent & can you wash the fabric if you did this on a quilt that is being used?

    • @palmasmyth6605
      @palmasmyth6605 Před 4 lety +1

      The paint is permanent and washable. Simply iron once it has dried. Use cheap homespun fabric. I hang my finished quilts.

    • @HelenGoddenQuilts
      @HelenGoddenQuilts Před 4 lety +1

      It was painted on black cotton. It is fabric paint and designed for this purpose. I iron to prepare the sandwich which also heat sets the paint. Totally washable. I have many online classes for beginners to painting this technique on my website. Www.helengodden.com

  • @Kinrossboyd

    Is it just black cotton you paint on and do you prime it first? Definitely going to try this as it might make me use the sketch pad more🤣😂

    • @palmasmyth6605
      @palmasmyth6605 Před 4 lety +2

      Black homespun, the cheaper black cottons work better. No priming necessary, the Lumiere paints are opaque and cover well with one coat.

      Jacqui Boyd and don’t wash the fabric first.
