Why does that one guy keep saying "This came out of Italy/Russia/etc?!" in complete shock as if America is the only place that produces modern music
Unfortunately because America is so big and a lot of what’s popular around the world comes from the US, most people in my country don’t know very much about the rest of the world. But at the same time, many modern music genres like rock, jazz, and rap were invented in America, so I think people assume music from other countries would have more traditional sounds. The popularity of K-Pop is changing some of that, but slowly.

Ukrainian singer actually has a problem with her lungs, that prevented her singing rock, she was singing at the begining of her career.
She found a way to sing in a traditional way, eventually fully embracing traditional singing.
Most likely this is why she doesn't move much, as it is much harder to keep singing during dance number.
The group was actually harshly criticized because of that, during national selection, as Eurovision "expects a show" on the stage. The group even said that they'll all learn to dance instead of her, if this will be necessary, which they kinda did.
I think this all came out perfectly. Modern ethno singing with a tiny skinny woman standing, and tribal rite around her, creating the feelling of raw power with no BS. She still does her part throwing all the energy in voice and that chilling stare.

A bit shaky on the facts. You don't have to be from a country, you just have to be chosen by a country to perform. Celine Dion sang for Switzerland once. There have been several Americans that have performed in Eurovision but they weren't as well known as Flo Rida. You can win multiple times in a row it just hardly ever happens. What Marketa forgot to mentioned is, that Eurovision was formed back in 1956 in Switzerland. The idea was to reunite the friendship between European countries after World War II. So, Eurovision is the oldest tv competition show in the world has more viewers than the Super Bowl. Between 180 to 200 million people are watching this show each year.
To be part of Eurovision the countries have to be part of the European Broadcasting Union or an associate to the EBU. So, the countries don‘t have to be specific in Europe. That’s why countries like Azerbaijan, Israel and even Australia are participating.
The whole franchise of Eurovision will be export next year to the US btw..NBC will broadcast the first American Song Contest in 2022, jfyi.
No, Italy's Sanremo Festival is older and the idea behind Eurovision SC is based on Sanremo Festival.
@@Cosmopavone the concept and idea was based on Sanremo. And was first broadcast on Radio.
And yes, true, Sanremo was first broadcast on TV in 1955. and the first Eurovision was heald in 1957. But bringing and connecting eight different countries on live TV, who participate on the first Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson (this title of the show was used in most of the countries until 2001, until they changed it to Eurovision Song Contest) was groundbreaking and revolutionary.
So the difference is: The whole concept was created for a tv show from the beginning for Eurovision. Sanremo wasn’t. So, Eurovision is the first Contest that was created only for television broadcast.
Granted, that American Song Contest is only half of the idea of Eurovision given that it's essentially the United States Song Contest and not including other American countries. Kinda weird but I guess I understand!

@@frankhenneick9983 that's why is called eurovision and not euromusic

That’s not really the case anymore.
It's really the whole package though. If the song was absolutely amazing but the performance and staging are absolutely crap, then that will guarantee that the entry tanks and won't even pass the semi-finals and qualify for the grand-finals.
Likewise, mediocre songs can and do very often get saved by amazing performances and staging and end up doing very well, especially in the televote.

😁 I cannot believe the lack of knowledge about Europe, even in Latin America we learn about basic geography
They have no need.
i honestly wish we could teach basic geography here in the USA.......for a cultural society college grads brag about, they don't know squat about culture
Marketa is surprisingly unknowledgable about Europe.
She assimilated in America extremely well then.
Ziti is the pasta, "zitti" means shut up 😂
As an italian this is painful, the amount of ignorance i the video 😃👈
@@desycaccaro9426 also the "pizza dancer" thing was kinda insulting to me 💀
"ziti" with only one "T" is pasta, "zitti" with double "T" means "shut up", the title of the Italian song means "shut up and be good"
But my question is which kimd of pasta is "ziti"?
Thanks for the lesson random stranger

Actually all the ‘french’ colors are because the Dutch flag is 🇳🇱 (aka flag of The Netherlands where Rotterdam is)
yeah that was a bit of a facepalm..
Bruh, they all got NA education, its understandable Lmaoooo
If in doubt, go for red, white, and blue.
Nonsense (and lie)
The blue and red colors are the colors of Paris, and the white in the middle represent the french monarchy. Educate yourself.
@@Thunderworks I think you should educate yourself lmaoooo
Love that you are reacting to this!
But i gotta say, as a dutch person, the ‘this was in rotterdam this year, which means rotterdam won last year’ hurts 😂
I died inside. I realized at that moment I wasn't 100% sure if Rotterdam was in Netherlands and had an intrusive awakening of how much about Europe I had forgot:(((
Yes. That means that South Holland won last time, right?
@@meuspeus5483 no not south holland. The Netherlands won.
@@lifewithshay9086 Pretty sure that Rotterdam is in South Holland.
@@meuspeus5483 i know, i live there. But that doesn't mean that only the south part won. The Netherlands won last time.
I enjoy the subtitle that just says "singing"
to make it easier for americans to understand whats going on XDXDXDXD
"Cries in Spanish" vibe yeah

It's about all they seem to understand anyway
OK just so you know the EU (European union) and Europe are two different things. The EU is a union between 27 European countries but Europe is a continent. Not all European countries are members of the EU. There are about 49 countries in Europe. The UK left the EU not Europe, you are still part of the continent even if you are not part of the EU. Im from Sweden and we are part of the EU our neighbouring country of Norway is not but they are still a European country.
"Texas is as big as europe"
GUYS PLEASE
As an European, it is nice to see Americans reaction to Eurovision.
No, keep them in the dark, they will ruin it
The Eurovision Fever is spreading all through the world and I, honestly, couldn't be happier.
Yeees! I'm so glad Eurovision only grows bigger and bigger every year, and talented euro artists are getting attention, what else can I wish
Nooo I don't want Americans to have anything to do with it
As long as the Americans don't try to impose themselves
Oh, totally. As Lily said I mean I'm glad it's giving a platform for this European Artists to grow in the international arena. They are really talented and should gain the recognition they deserve.
Ok, but they disrespected Måneskin ( Italy) here. First they called them pizza dancers which is offensive to Italians, then they said “The bassist looks so weird.” Bruh lol
Il lavoro del pizzaiolo napoletano è patrimonio dell'UNESCO, quindi non è un offesa ma un complimento.
This is just painful to watch at this point... never felt this much secondhand embarrassment in my life - a European
I‘m from Germany and the UK and us always finish last it‘s become a tradition and I love it haha. No but for real you should react to more Eurovision stuff especially older winners or something
That’s not company truthful. Germany won in 2010 with Lena Meyer. I’m from Spain, we are almost always in the bottom 5, and we haven’t won since 1969 😭😭😭
@@nachocura I'm sorry I should've included Spain haha I feel bad for you guys
Germany got a fourth place only a few years ago. And honestly, the entry this year was not THAT bad, there were worst performances.
@@nachocura I’m from uk Same 😭 Let’s be besties HA
I blame the Big5 mechanics. No one cares for those countries unless they actually bring something really good. As people love their favourites from semis. Elimination of Big5 would allow for all those bad songs to not qualify to the finales, thus we wouldn't have all those zeroes.
Cool little fact about Ukraine's song: The song is sang after a harsh winter (or winter in general) to welcome the spring deity. It's Slavic tradition and people have been singing it (or similar styles of it) for many years. When you guys mentioned it sounded traditional, it reminded me of this fact! Just thought I would share!
Every winter is harsh winter there😂
The italian bands name: Måneskin is danish, and means moonlight. Pretty sure that ispiration came from the female member of the group, who is half danish.
so, what was "anti-russian" in Jamala's song? She sang about her people experience during 1944 deportation, there was no word about russia in the lyrics of that song
Yeah. They don't allow political songs that are anti nation
Bruh I thought this whole Americans being ignorant thing was a myth but here we are
If they enjoyed Iceland, I would imagine they'd enjoy Lithuania too. The rest of that Top 11 are worth checking out too.
Lithuania's song was a real vibe! :D
Lithuania was in the top 5 among my friends.
There's no such a thing as joint place in Eurovision Song Contest since 1969. Tiebreakers will split counties into different positions. Greece is 10th and Bulgaria is 11th because Greece got more points from public.
@@teo_heel I said Top 10 because that's an easy concept to make an excuse for another video from. Obviously the Normies wouldn't have known about the lack of joint places. I'll just edit my original comment so I avoid any more pedantry even though 'Top 11' looks stupid.
The UK is still in Europe lol, we left the EU not the continent. Switzerland and Norway are in Europe, but aren’t apart of the EU either
Nah we all know that the Uk, after brexit grew legs and switched place with Australia
This was hard to watch with how little they know about Europe. Like at 4:07 the guy even says that he thinks Russia is not in Europe?
I mean, to be fair, most of Russia is in Asia, not Europe.
@@Kordass126 That doesn't matter. The Russian territory is also in Europe, which means it is on two continent.
the more they watch the more they learn, different cultures, and all. like, i for one, dont know shit about american countries
@@vukede1207 presumably though you do at least know that "American countries" such as the USA, Canada, Argentina etc. are all part of the continent of America, & which of them are in the sub continents of North America or South America? Is education in the USA so poor that people can't even place what continent a country is in?!
Not really surprising considering they also thought Band of Brothers played out over a time period of a couple of weeks.
I would also like to add that the stages are changed between performers within the postcards, so in 1-1,5 minutes. Eurovision is broadcasted live, so no long waiting periods between artists at all!!
“They look like they do heroin”
Every Måneskin fan after the thing: aaaaaooouuuu😳
Yeah haha
That was such an offensive and bigoted comment, I'm shocked they all laughed.
The level of their ignorance gives me literal PAINS
So much confidence when stating things that are just complete bollocks...... I wish I was this confident
I swear I am not even half as confident when I answer a question in school (even though I am 100% sure that its right ) xD
It took the American 1:00 minute to confuse Europe and the EU. Great start. :)
Yes. Chris, be smug about us Europeans....
EDIT: It took, the other American 4:00 to exclude Russia from Europe. We're moving on. :)
"You could walk all over Europe" - OK. Yeah no need for cars and trains in Europe. It is basically toy town. Jesus, you really need to look at a map of Europe.
exactly, like they think we swim from Malta to Italy 💀😭
Mata Hari doesn't sound Indian. It sounds Middle Eastern and Turkish😂😂 the instrument is literally a part of our (Turkish) culture.
I have been asking for Eurovision reactions for years, although not from the Normies specifically, it's insane how many people miss out on the campfest that is Eurovision.
Agree, its the content we need
36:08 "pizza dancers" 😂😂😂 thats the peak of american wisdom 😂😂😂
Well, you don't have to be from a country X to sing for the country X. A canadian has won for Switzerland, a french for Luxembourg, etc.
Even this year, Stefania who sang for Greece is actually Dutch
And the Canadian who won for Switzerland is no other than Celine Dion^^
@@chibiusa4072 She is half Dutch and half Greek I believe but yeah, you are right
Every European for the last few weeks at random moments: 'MATA HARIIII'
With a smug face: “Guys, the host nation cannot win, no matter how many votes they got”. Complete bull.
Exactly. If that were true, why would people be allowed to vote for them if they couldn't win? Critical thought surely can't be this hard.
Great surprise I hope you guys do this every year from now on!
YES YES YES YES!
I cannot be convinced that these people went to school 😭😭😭😭😭😭
The ignorance of Americans leaves me speechless every single time. You guys aren’t the only one existing in the world, just so you know.
Just do a little bit more of research, it’s not that difficult.😉 and also, you could also understand waaay better the contest knowing some background information about it.
16:40 you have to be kidding, Europe is a continent, not a country. You just need to look at Russia to know that Europe it's definitely not smaller than the us
This is the reaction I didn't expect but I'm happy it happened
I am thankful of the lady with the short hair for bringing Eurovision to the table, but she needs to get a bit more of info beforehand imo. I am also happy to see the reactions everyone had to the show, which means that they need to watch more of Eurovision.
Do a part 2 with
Switzerland
Finland
Bulgaria
Malta
Lithuania
Greece
Norway
San Marino
Ireland too, best staging!

I'm literally dancing here because you mentioned Norway lol
fun fact about Italy: Every year, on February ,we do a national contest called Festival of Sanremo to decide who send to Eurovision . Maneskin victory was contested by the most traditional TV audience ,continuing the tradition for which every time a Sanremo's winner generates a controversy then performs greatly at Eurovision.
San Marino is literally a mountain in the middle of Italy
some guy called Marino owned it and let some religious peope live there in roman times.
I would have loved seeing you guys react to Lithuania, Switzerland, Serbia and San Marino.

To the point about bringing politics to a performance, ESC actually has a firm stance against it. The moments when countries have done it are usually without permission.
Edit: A lot of countries sent the same performers from 2020 because last year it got cancelled.
It's also pretty difficult to be completely unpolitical. Even wearing a traditional dress is political.
@@swanpride Very true. Mainly they look to avoid highlighting political conflicts between nations. For example Russia's performance this year could be considered political but it was not controversial in nature. Though obviously there have been several controversial performances that ESC permitted so it's a grey area for sure.
"A lot of countries sent the same performers": Italy didn't. 2020's Diodato was marvelous.
