  • In this demo I show you how I have used good old kitchen foil/tin foil/aluminum foil to make an embossed background for your cardmaking, paper crafts & scrapbooking.
    I also show you how to use Gold foil to make the same embossed background and how to take the carrier sheet off the top of the foil. An ideal demo for any crafter looking for foil play and inspiration.

    Fabu! Ann-Marie, I want to use these embossed-foil cards to COVER FURNITURE SURFACES! It would look gorgeous... reminiscent of the turn of the century and Art Deco pieces (including ceilings) one comes along very very rarely. (It would be fabulous for boxes too.)
    Give it a thought... what might be the best technique with which to PERMANENTLY ADHERE these to a surface? Obviously, I would use some sort of poly-medium as a top surface finish in order to strengthen everything (the adhesion and the embossing) and, say for a table or vanity top, I would cover with beveled glass, which would forever protect the surface. Let us know what you think, please! Many thanks, gabi

    • @AnnmarieVaux
      @AnnmarieVaux  Před 7 lety

      Oh I think its a great idea, to use for furniture and larger items - I agree the protection will need to be looked at and I agree about the glass top.
      You could add alcohol inks for colour, to tint and stain, keeping the metallic background but the ink will just add extra interest, and use the Art Deco embossing folders for patterns from that era.. you could use it to inlay as well for furniture, like a tile effect, with coloured glass tile chips and even add colourful patterns from Art Deco colouring books for a centre focus.. see my mind is full of ideas as well.. but it sounds fab.. go for it!

    Yes you are right, no nails would be harder to work with.
    I am just curious about why so many skilled artist glue long nails on their fingers before going on video. Because we all know that if your fingertips is covered with long, or like some have, white, square nails (called French nails I think) it is difficult to feel and work properly. But it seems that you (almost) are all right with long nails ;)
    Anyway....it is a beautyful tecnic you use and I will share with my scrapfriends and give a link. Thank you.

    Hi Ann-Marie,
    I've been debating whether to buy an embossing machine, wondering if I could use them for foil (actually for thicker foil or thin metal sheeting for jewelry boxes).
    Have you been able to put heavy kitchen foil through by itself?
    I'm aware the embossing wouldn't hold by itself, although I've used fillers in the past.
    Brilliant idea to use I'm guessing that's foiling material?
    Antiquing with sulfur &/or other methods would be incredible! Far easier than doing this by hand!!!
    Now to figure out how to create my own custom embossing plates & I'll be set!
    Brilliant video! (Love your accent too! I guess I've been watching a lot of English videos, as I understood you just fine! )
    Great that you used the same embossing folder as in other videos for comparison! That is really helpful! Thank you!
    I subbed! Now I have to see what other crafty things you've compared this to! Great stuff!
    From across the pond, in California,
    Carol

    Hi Ann~marie, I know this is a much older video but can you tell me would this work with the big rolls of DECO FOIL and what kind of FOIL did you use with the 2nd embossing folder? I don't know if I have even seen foil that has a clear carrier sheet that comes off of it. I live in the US, so maybe that is why but I would still like to know, and do you know a link or the brand you used of the 2nd foil with the clear carrier sheet that you peeled back? I also might use some Alcohol inks to color the foil..maybe..Thank you for sharing..Love your ideas.. I don't really want to use all my Deco Foil for a back ground for my Christmas cards but this is a wonderful idea!

      +Gail Gale Thanks Gail for your comment, its funny you asking about this as I have just been planning a new up to date gold foil technique video as I have a new glue pen :) I don't know if you are in the UK or not but if you are in the UK there is a company that sells the foil in packs, for more details you can find it here - www.stix2.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&filter_name=foil
      If you are not in the UK, you could try the large auction site.. I use what is classed as a cold foil, this means its used with glue pens or tacky double sided tape, the glue pens you must let dry to tacky before using, double sided adhesive is great as well.. the list is endless. Then once the glue is tacky or you've used your tape, you put your foil on it, colour of foil upwards and press on top of the glue, this attaches the foil and leaves the sheet clear in the places you've used it.. I shall do a tutorial for you, will be next week now..so look out for it xxx

    Hi Ann-Marie. Love this video. Best I have seen. Do you know the maker and name of your embossing folder? I love it and can't find it any where I have looked.

      Thank you, I am so glad you like this one, it is a great technique.
      I've just checked the folder and have been racking my brains as to where I got it from but I'm sorry I can't remember, I can tell you it isn't Anna Griffin or Tim Holtz, but it was very cheap from the large auction site and it was a fleur de lys of some kind.. good luck.
      Thanks for watching and for commenting xxx

    no adhesive sheets...so what else would work?????

    • @AnnmarieVaux
      @AnnmarieVaux  Před 5 lety

      I only use the double sided sheets to stick the foil down with as it gives an all over adhesion - you could use flat tape/glue anything that glues foil and then use your craft glue to stick it on to a project as normal - use your creative mind and see what you have in your stash :) xxx

      Thank you Jennie, I am pleased you enjoyed this technique.
      Try www.stix2.co.uk for the self adhesive double sided sheets and gold foil, they post worldwide. The foil used in this technique was normal kitchen roll/aluminium roll.

    The minute you touch them, the marks go away. Not a good idea unless is super thick. Buy metal/aluminum sheets for this project.
