    I have an add on for your PVC boat guide. While the boat is on the trailer, I add a strip of duct tape, florescent orange, and place it even with the top of the side of the boat. Because my boat is wider than my truck, I have a hard time knowing if I backed far enough in to see if the boat has floated of trailer. With the tape as an indicator line, I can see that the boat floated off the trailer when the boat side is higher than the tape. In addition, I place a 2nd line of tape on the boat guide which acts like another guide for retrieving boat. When that line made by the tape goes under water while backing up, I'm deep enough to where there is usually no cranking on winch. I use florescent orange tape, but have to replace it after 2 to 3 years as it fades out.

      My question is HOW do you attach a wire to the center pin on the plug for the trailer. Normally they are all factory sealed up with no way to get to the center pin wiring unless you cut into the plug basically ruining the plug. I’d like to see how you do this. Instead of just saying “connect a wire to. ………”

    Thanks for the hacks. Here's a hack for those that have a difficult time loading your boat in heavy current. Install a self-centering roller on the rear cross-member. Really helped me load my 17ft. Alumacraft, especially by myself.

    1 thing I did is put some DOT reflective tape on the back of my boat trailer incase you ever lost your lights. This stuff really shines when headlights hit it. I seen semi trailers use it all the time. Great stuff! Great video though!!

    Metal & PVC trailer guides with the trailer lights mounted at the top of the metal guide bar so the lights never go underwater. Works great for me and saves on corrosion of the bulbs and sockets.

    Grip Tape tip, I had an area much bigger that required more than a strip. So instead of making multiple strips, I bought a piece of skateboard grip tape which is much wider and was able to cover the entire area in one go thrn just trim the excess. The key to this stuff is making sure the surface is nice and clean before sticking it on.

    For reversing at night…
    I upgraded my reverse lights to LED that have a rearward beam… as well as my truck bed lights. They don’t work in drive but will work in reverse on my truck. Helps in the woods and with the RV/or horse trailer as well.

    I really like the license plate idea, definitely taking that one. I also did the reverse lights, they make trailer lights with them built in and I used a 5 pin connector for mine and man...what a difference it makes. I'll be adding a set of side bunks and poles this winter because I fish a lot of rivers with current and lakes with steep ramps and I feel those mods would really help me. Cool video man.

    Cool video. You can wire an led spotlight to pole and wire to signal you added. Put an inline fuse on with toggle drilled in pvc to use when needed. I have turn signals on my poles and added a piar of led spotlights with one on winch tower and one on crossbar below transom. One switch hidden in tower to on off and gives me runway lights when loading with two signals outboard and two spots inline to keel alignment. Beware, ramp rats will be envious and tell you how smart this is lol. I am 100% using the plate mod. I hang my plate on pole and will use a mud flap to fix needing new plastic hangers when get weak from highway.

    Someone may have already suggested this but... instead of putting a waterproof led "backup" light down low on your trailer, mount 1 or 2 smaller led lights on the pvc guides. You already have power to the leds on the top of them, which will make it fairly easy and they won't need to be waterproof... just weather proof

    Some good ideas. I personally would just get rid of the bunk load guides and go with only the tall post load guides. Bunks just slowly rub and scar the side of your boat and post guides hit the rub rail of your boat. I never leave my rod holders on so I don’t worry about hitting those. Also if you have the tall post guides and a good winch strap and safety chain hooked to your boat your boat isn’t going anywhere and the back straps are not even necessary then especially on a bunk trailer. Also I noticed the vertical bunk supports on your trailer which is a bit different than most but on a more traditional flat bunk trailer i silicone mine once a year for easier loading and unloading on shallow ramps.

    • @markmcleod5079
      @markmcleod5079 Před rokem +1

      @kross1261 Your state's DOT must do a better job than here in NC and up in VA where I most often trailer my boat. IMO, those rear straps are definitely needed to keep the boat properly centered on the bunks and are important to secure the boat to the top side of the trailer and add stability in the event of an emergency maneuver (or worse). And that's without adding silicone annually to the bunks, as you suggest (I think I like that idea, though...may give it a try this year.).

    I will say the adhesive grip tape is a good idea, not just for water but dust. I stepped up and onto the trailer on bare dusty metal and slipped off. I ended up twisting my ankle backwards and completely to the side. Grade 3 sprain, would of been better to break it. This was after going down dusty logging roads and it had dust on the metal and it was like stepping onto the slickest ice or greasy oily surface. 6 months on crutches, missed a 17 day fishing trip and the rest of the season. permanently messed my ankle plus The 45 minute ride down washboard logging roads in an ambulance with anankle barely attached, ain't worth the few bucks to get the grippy tape.
