De Beer: GNU - The rocky pillar is… the ANC

  • The nation has lived through another week of alliance and dis-alliance politics in South Africa. In this interview with BizNews, Neil de Beer, President of the United Independent Movement, warns that “the biggest and largest instability within the GNU” is the African National Congress (ANC) that has cracked into three factions: that of President Cyril Ramaphosa, that of Vice-President Paul Mashatile, and the faction made up of the allies of President Jacob Zuma, whose MK Party is now the “real” opposition in Parliament. “The sentence you are now going to hear more and more in Parliament, more and more in this country from this RET and revolutionary faction is ‘Sell Out. Sell Outs’. And this…is what is going to be the make and break of the further split of the so-called mighty - but fallen - African National Congress.” De Beer also describes how the recent youth revolution in Kenya has “blown over here, not physically, but mentally” with people starting to say “be careful because if you continue selling out the country’s revolution of the fight against poverty, that Kenya and what happened there does not come here”. De Beer further gives his take on the collapse of coalition talks between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (ANC) in Gauteng. He also gives a performance preview of some of the newly-appointed Ministers.

They just pretend to fight for the poor + SA when they need votes to keep their well paying jobs.
BEE was suppose to uplift the poor + extend the infrastructure. Ppl live in abject poverty + scrape by om measly sassa, with the infrastructure looted to bare bones + into bancrupcy - worse than ever before in the history of SA. Yet ppl believe these presidents have their best interest at heart?!

DA doing nothing would have been much worse. Going to sit in the opposition benches when one can do a meaningful power sharing deal to me is the same as doing nothing. We are not at a stage where "principled" opposition will help much. Even the few positions DA have is a good platform for them to disprove those who voted against them by actually just getting the basics right for service delivery. Political power is not really about idealism and to be honest the DA did try prepare us for the possibility of MPC not getting enough votes. Someone once said "Evil thrives when good men do nothing". Obviously if DA gets heavily undermined in government then they should reconsider. Guateng is a differemt story because there the ANC still needs to learn that you can't give yourself more than 50% of positions but give only 20% power to a party with a voting % close to yours.

Its unfortunately true, Tshwane is a mess, the ANC government has ran those cities to the ground, I was there last year August. Locals have moved out of the cities and foreigners have moved in and some of them just take a piss on the streets, most possess unlicensed fire arms, transport illegal copper in the country, the waste has no management, the lack of maintenance, the dirt, leaking water pipes, stripped down street lights, its literally dark in the city and it stinks everywhere. The nepotism in those departments, cousins hiring cousins and wives with fake qualifications/no qualifications and no skills. This phenomena is on a national scale where the previously governing party ruled. Tenders are awarded to comrades and close family ties, of course we see that phenomena with the DA in the Western Cape, so yes these ministers have their work cut out for them. Neil must work on his campaigning for the next elections in the coming 5 years coz I became aware of him and his party thru this channel. South Africans need new parties and leaders to vote for, new parties must be robust in their campaigning.

But Ramaphosa have included those that are criminally charged so that they can be arrested one by one so that come 2029, ANC will be weakened. Ramaphosa is smart because if he didn't include them, they would have regrouped in a week and removed him. So, what he has done is include them so that he can deal with them one by one rather than as a group.
Neil is again failing to understand how Ramaphosa operates.

...so why do we not get leaders elected from these fraternities as ministers?
Why do we allow silly party politicians to appoint their buddies to these critical positions?
We really do NOT need political parties AT ALL.
