One of the greatest performances! This is penance, this is yagna, this is worship, this is advaita ( the singer, violinist, audience, stage, mike and everything has transformed into Raga). The sick will get up and run, the healthy will go into contemplation. It's like seeing the sleeping baby smile and getting a blissful moment ourselves.

Wonderful rendition of Thodi - brought back nostalgic memories of great maestros like Madurai Somu and Madurai Mani Iyer. Kudos to the entire crew.

  • @dharmapurisanyasiraju3629

Thodi ragam tanam palavi excellently rendered by Kunakudi Balamurali Krishna, and equally supported by violinist Akkari akka.

This man loves Thodi! And now I love it more because of him. Like all great artists he shows us what beautiful details lie where most of us mortals may miss out. There is joy and pain simultaneously in his music!

I am 71years. My father was a disciple of Chitoor Subramania Pillai and Mannargudi Rajagopala Pillai at Annamalai University after Madurai Somu and he got all the six gold medal in music. He always use to tell me high of Thodi and the pitch at which it should be sung. When ever I hear Balamurali Krishna I use to remember him. Some time I feel may be he has taken rebirth to continue to sing. Had he been alive he would have enjoyed. Balamurali Krishna I like your way of singing. Please keep it up. God will always be with you.

Awesome Todi. If one had not heard Tiruvavaduturai Rajaratnam, here are
the replica of the same sangatis he handled 60 years ago. What an imagination to build the structure.... Great artist...

I felt it impossible to stop tears flowing out of my eyes after listening to the thodi rendition of shri.Balamuralikrishna. His rendition is very reminiscent of Madurai Somu, T.N.R., and flute Mali. He has set a benchmark which is hard to equal or surpass. And what a great set of accompanists!

fairly early on, and again in the last piece, the mridangam is (a) obsessed with playing long repetitive patterns feverishly, looking only at the kanjira player, leaving the sahityam and the vocalist in lurch in the bargain, (b) apparently forgotten he is required to support the krithi's movements with suitable saravalagu more often than not, (c) caused partially by NOT keeping eye-contact with the vocalist which would have made him conscious of and focused on the vocalist's singing.
thankfully, this seems to be behind him and us nowadays (this concert dates back by 6 years), as his performances, notably for the same vocalist vidwan, are far more in sync and supportive.
sh. KMB and smt. ASS render virtuoso performances. Thodi raaga alaapanam is outstanding.

In the art, in this case music, when you immerse yourself in a particular raga one goes deeper and deeper and forget himself. This is my experience of watching my father, perfect musician and brother perfect astrologer of height. Unfortunately now both are no more.
