The silver surfer being the most stereotypical surfer dude is peak characterization
Just the opening song alone deserves praise. I loved this show as a kid.
When fans criticize kid shows, I look back to how the super hero squad show influenced my childhood and life forever, introducing me to marvel. These type of shows are what creates new fans, never judge them.
We don’t criticize kid show
We criticize kid shows that use being a kid show as an excuse for being lazy
@@sexyyeyo Something being a kids show doesn't excuse it being bad, or lazy. Just because the Star Wars The Clone Wars movie is for kids doesn't mean its flaws can't be criticised
Yeah this show was essentially Marvel’s version of Teen Titans Go, but actually entertaining. It introduced me to many other characters like Reptil and MODOK. This cartoon wasn’t amazing but it was very cute.
You take that back, this show was iconic Jr GOLD! Not to mention it dose a d-n fine job showing just how powerful the infinity stones are.
Honestly TTG isn’t that bad either, it’s just kind of muddied out by the enormity of cringe it also has
As a child, this show was the ONLY reason I knew who Thanos was and what it meant when he first appeared in the Avengers 1 post credits scene. This show is an excellent young kids crash course on Marvel comics, and things like this are vital for catching up new generations of fans. We must NEVER undervalue the importance of media like this.
It helped me a lot with character recognition within the greater marvel world
Yeah, same.
The show as well as the Infinity Gauntlet tie-in game introduced me to Thanos so I was able to recognize him in the MCU.
This show plus its two video game tie ins introduced me to various aspects of Marvel lore
I also like the fact that Reptile was very true to character as he was in the comics! Not sure if Kevin will ever use him, but here's hoping..
my favorite joke in the whole show is when wolveriene has to team up with H.E.R.B.I.E he pulls out a checklist of characters he has teamed up with and checks H.E.R.B.I.E off of it
Yeah he doesn't usually team up with other Heroes well except for the X-Men but he is lone wolf both literally and metaphorically
I can wholeheartedly agree here. Super Hero Squad was incredibly underrated. Thanos and Warlock had the fucking funniest chemistry in the whole series, and its even funnier when you figure out who voices Thanos here.
I mean it’s not hard to figure out, it’s just Jim Cummings doing his Tigger voice
Jim Cummings has such a strange career. Tigger to SATAM Robotnik to Scar to fucking THANOS.
I like how they make dr.strange totally insane in this show
@@KYRA_RISINGThat would explain much. I thought it's because they took his name "Dr. Strange" on another level.
I always liked it, it felt like marvel's take on the format of "batman: the brave and the bold"
and then dc tried copying that but instead of making it good they just made the teen titans obnoxious clowns who don't really care about saying people.
I miss shows like this, that weren't afraid to lean onto the insanity of comics. Serious character driven stories are okay, but why can't a long running franchise have fun every now and then
The best way I can describe this show: some executives told a group of comic nerds to make a kids show and gave them little to no criteria except to sell toys. And they RAN WITH IT
I'll take Super Hero Squad over Teen Titans Go any day. The heroes may be silly and crack jokes, but they act like heroes should. They save lives, and help people.
TTG doesn't do that at all.
By the way, I have a good sense of humor. I don't mind the jokes on SHS.
TTG makes the Titans selfish "I'm gonna do this because I care about myself and that's it" shells of the charactures.
@@Adam-oh3vu exactly! They are selfish, lazy, self-absorbed jerks. Nothing heroic about that!
Everyone is the manchild varient of the crouching moron hidden badass
The show is also kinda refreshing with the over exaggerating of the characters. Seeing the characters actually be different while still be the characters was so much fun. For Hulk in particular, you have just the Hulk instead of the Hulk/Bruce Banner as his usual portrayal. He can be happy and sad, and is just an overall goofball. It makes this Hulk unique and that much more memorable.
I loved this show as a kid, but I always wondered why characters from the spiderman series weren't in it but were in the online game
I'm pretty sure at the time Fox owned the TV rights to Spider-Man.
@@waterking74 those appearances were made after Disney got the tv rights back
I remembered me and my sister watch every episode to try to find Spider-Man 😂 we were like 10 years old at the time.
I remember spiderman showing up once or twice in comcs in the magazine but not the show itself
The rounded edges and chibi style rendering does scream kid-stuff and toy-etic, but I got to deeply appreciate how SHS turns the Marvel Universe into a giant fucking sandbox - and have a ball with it
This show introduced me to Marvel itself
Probably my favorite ever cartoon
(I mean I completed the first game they had on the wii because I loved it so much and unlocked Spider-Man)
Mine was messed up and kept trapping me on part of the silver surfer mission. Never finished it and that still makes me sad. Loved beating the crap out of my siblings in multiplayer mode though.
I grew up with the first season of this show, never got to see the second, but I always loved it, glad to see it get talked about
I'm so surprised someone remembers this, I watched it as much as I could, pre-MCU marvel shows had such a charm because they didn't have to rely on mandates and keeping up with the films, while still introducing kids to what's to come in those movies. Good stuff.
This right here is what I considered what the MCU needs to reach when it comes to having everybody in the universe
It probably would have if rights weren't in the way.
Hell, pretty sure this show wasn't allowed to use Spider-Man.
They weren't, but he had toys and was in all the tie-in media@@dylansharp8471
Charlie Adler being Doctor Doom is the best choice they did for this show. There was that one time that he started to sound like Cow in Cow and Chicken
the toy line for this show was amazing, totally worth picking up back in the day
I wish I could of same with og titans but they never sold those toys in my area
I've heard that Spider-man was supposed to be in the show, but because of rights issues, he couldn't be used. So they replaced him with Reptile (he does have a reference in the show, and appears in the online game)
I remember when they introduced antman, i thought it was gonna be spidey xd
Well there’s a super hero squad reference in the ultimate spider man cartoon
This show introduced me to so many Marvel characters, such as Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Black Knight. Even Doctor Strange (my absolute favorite hero in the MCU) and Thanos I first saw in this show.
This video really changed my perspective of one of my favorite childhood shows. Makes me appreciate it more as an adult. Though i remember being dissapointed that Spider-Man wasn't in the show, but I do now understand why and thank this show for not only introducing me to the larger scale Marvel universe, but also getting me to like other Marvel characters aside from Spider-Man (I still wish he was in the show though).
Never knew the show was good, what I remember is the tie in game, Super Hero Squad Online. Got me to know over a hundred of Marvel characters that were in the game. Also had MCU tie ins, but unfortunately it died in 2017.
This show is the best way to introduce kids to marvel, it perfectly emphasizes the characters and what they're like or the aspects of them I'm so glad I grew up with it and can still enjoy it today
I actually did watch it as a kid. As a kid, for the most part, I *hated* superhero media with a few exceptions, this being one of them. I viewed it was one of the most serious things I watched, which doesn't seem to be the case considering what I'm hearing about it now lol.
I still have a distinct memory of the last time I watched it. I dont know if this is all in my head or not, but you did mention the Dark Surfer so that's definitely not made up. I remember at the end of one episode, the Dark Surfer scatters the superheroes across the multiverse or something like that.
As a kid, I was horrified. I didn't understand why Silver Surfer had gone bad and sent all the heroes away. Then I never saw the show on the TV again and I was stuck with this sad ending to me as a kid where the Silver Surfer, for reasons unknown to me, had become corrupted and turned on his allies. This is probably not the case but this was my reality. Thanks for taking me on a trip down memory lane. :)
Yeah I didn't get into superheroes as a kid either. Even as a kid I was a little hipster and for some reason I thought superheroes were too mainstream (though I wouldn't have had that wording for it at the time lol). Ironically I didn't get into Marvel until The Avengers came out, and now that I'm a fan it actually is mainstream.
@@ryankunst668 and then there is my niece who is in love with PJ Masks, Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and Paw Patrol. She is going to be so confused at the hero genre when she gets older.
Super Hero Squad is what made me love Marvel! As an adult it is so hard to watch because it’s childish and the animation can be lazy but it has a place in my heart and the layers you mention are great. The characters are all so funny, this Hulk is one of my favourite versions 😂😂. And the theme song intro is awesome.
They should bring this back, especially with how huge marvel it is it would be hilarious
Podrían aprovechar algunas historias delos cómics antiguos como secret wars sería genial tener al beyonder
THANK YOU! This show was my introduction to the vast Marvel universe before EMH and the MCU came along!
I always knew there was something to this show because I always found it funny, even when I got older. But I never heard those thoughts be put into words because it's one of those forgotten 2000's-era Marvel shows, it had a kinda odd lineup of characters with some you'd never see given any spotlight in other Marvel content like Silver Surfer and Reptil (who I'm pretty sure has barely been used in any other Marvel media since this show). I was such an avid fan of the franchise that I had some toys, the first two games for the Wii, and was an avid player of Super Hero Squad Online.
I absolutely love this show and I'm sick of hearing people call it garbage
"I've been there dude, not with sue storm, not anymore"
Stop it stop! He's already dead!
My favorite parts of the Show were the moments where it felt like a YTP, like the Bit with Hulk and the Doorbell
This show introduced me to many marvel characters when I was younger, sure I had no clue who any of them were but just that one show helped me with understanding characters that would be in movies and media to come.
I need to rewatch it now
The gag I remember most is from the finale when the infinity sword broke again and all the characters were just so fed up with having to look for the pieces again.
A think thay i always loved , was that i could talk to comic book readers about marvel and Dc , and get ehat they're saying, just with my superhero cartoons knowledge, and is a lot thanks to shows like this one
This show is honestly the reason why the Silver Surfer is my favorite character, is he like this in the comics, most likely no, but he still was an incredibly cool character and the dark surfer was also cool
I watched this show too many times and the theme song is a bop
This show was one of my favorites, I remember constantly checking the HUB network for episodes until it got removed (unfairly). The one thing that makes me question the show is that Spider-Man only appears in the video game, but why is he not in the show?
Finally, someone covers this criminally underrated series. I binged this when I was in high school when it showed up on Netflix. The comic that preceded it was also fantastic.
The art style is absolutely beautiful and the theme song is a banger.
This show was also my child hood
This show is a complete Marvel Universe and it was a fantastic way of teaching my daughter about the Marvel universe. She loved the show and honestly it was great.
I definitely love the Super Hero Squad show for all the reasons you said with it being a celebration of marvel and a truly funny lighthearted kid-friendly parody on the universe, but one thing that always did bum me out when looking back was Spider-Man not being in the show. And I do understand why since sadly Sony had the TV rights at the time, so he wasn’t allowed which always bothered me since Spidey was in the SHS video games and all other merchandise.
I remember this show introduced Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet and now he's one of my favorite characters!
I remember loving this show as a kid, I completely forgot about it’s existence until now, glad it still holds up
I remember, I love the superhero squad from my childhood, and the show still makes me laugh this very day
What Teen Titans Go! tried to be...
Or if someone says is on the same level as this, come on, let's discuss it xD
I absolutely loved this show, it was silly and entertaining. I enjoyed it so much that I had my parents buy me the wii game. It’s a fun introduction to the marvel universe for a kid or even casual fan. The Silver Surfer was my absolute fave, which has led me to try watching the old Silver Surfer cartoon
Bro, I remember watching this show when I was around 10 on Netflix. I did watch one episode when I was younger than that, and that episode stayed in the back of my head rent-free because it was my favorite.
This is my door to Marvel, I even had this game on PS2. I also remember an online PC game that was never released, I may be wrong.
I remember watching and loving this show as a kid. When I saw Thanos in the post credits scene in Avengers for the first time, I said "It's the guy with the weird chin from Superhero Squad!"
I used to watch this show a lot when i was really little, it showed me new characters, new stories, how they look, how animation works, everything was introduced to me in a way where a really little kid could look at it and really like it, and I was able to appreciate these characters more when I finally started getting into comics, and this show just really influenced me with my love of animation, comics, marvel, and character design. Looking back this show is fucking horrible, but it has some heart every once in a while, and I have a true appreciation for it.
Never thought I'd say this again...after such a long time...
_ALRIGHT, SQUADDIES: TIME TO HERO UP!_
Loved this show as a kid and super hero squad online, you’re making me want to watch it again :D
ah, i remember 8 year old me sitting down and binging Super Hero Squad and Spectacular Spiderman. Much simpler times.
I used to love this show as a kid. I'm glad to see someone compliment it instead of just criticize. I know it has its flaws but it's always going to be special to me.
Its amazing how this show balances multiple forms of humor while also delivering great adaptations of Marvel characters.
One of the biggest stand outs to me was Hulk, I find him to be far better portrayed here than he was in the MCU, and as you said, they even adapted Planet Hulk pretty well here, which one of my favorite Hulk stories that the MCU ruined any chances of us getting.
My favourite thing is the Hulk Gag during the theme intro where Hulk turns to various iterations in pop culture and media.
I honestly love this area of marvel. The mcu just began, the marvel animated shows were at their peak and truly felt like love letters to the fans, obscure characters were always a treat to see, a lot of characters used their comic designs, Toybiz was still making marvel legends. I could go on for hours about this being peak marvel. I wish I could have gotten to experience it more and honestly I took it for granted. Marvel truly embraced their weird side, btw does anyone remember the marvel web series’s? I wish this era of marvel could be brought back.
This series was a little too "babyish" for me when I was an kid and never really watched it, but now I wish I could watch it.
The theme song is also pretty kick ass.
I have been searching for this show for a while. Time to rewatch it. It was one of my favourite shows as a kid.
I'm not the first one whose said it, but SHS was "Teen Titans GO!" Done right! This show was the shit when I was a kid, but I was also bummed it didn't include Spider-Man.
This show does its 2 jobs for me: don’t bore me that I want to change the channel and don’t make me hate any of the main characters
Oh man I used to LOVE this show when I was a kid. Makes me kinda wanna revisit it cuz I remember it being so good. I mean that's how I knew Thanos and TONS of other Marvel characters, after all. Good vid
So many voices I recall from other shows wow! I might have to actually give the show a watch. Great Video!
I loved this show so much when I was younger. I also owned the video game on my Wii. It had a fighting game mode in it that was so unbelievably unbalanced
It's a shame Spider-Man wasn't on this show
I love this show for introducing me to Reptil.
The super hero squad is what introduced me to thanos and half the characters of the marvel universe.
Mitch, This was my favorite show growing up and for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned.
I don't think they will ever make a 3rd Season, but I'm curious as to what you would have liked to see in a potential 3rd season of the Super Hero Squad Show.
I LOVED this show!!
THIS is everything that TTG *WISHES* it could bee!!🤩🤩😁😄😄
This is so good I made my own super hero squad series but putting in Star Wars, toy story, Mario, Spider-Man and more.
I had some of the toys from this as a kid but Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes served as my introduction to the larger Marvel Universe the way Superhero Squad Show did for you
As I got older I found out there's a lot of hate for this show, but as a kid it was always awesome seeing so many things from the comics for the first time
This show got me first into superhero’s as a young child I loved this so much
Great points! Watched this show with my son and loved it. Smart Grey Hulk episode was a favorite.
I didn’t know Brie Larson based her captain marvel performance off of this interpretation of the character. The more you know !
The show didn't feel repetitive at all with the jokes or the plot, it was entertaining
When I say I’m a long time fan of marvel this is what got me started! I have been trying to find this show and remember the name of it for sooo long. I’m so happy I found it again and other people who remember it as well.
Finnnally! This show was legit my childhood. Great video!
really unfortunate that they couldnt put spidey in, he woulda been perfect for the show
I hope reptil appears in the MCU
Considering the track record for adapting cartoon original characters to film ranging from a decade to two; if say don't hold your breath
I loved and enjoyed the show back in the day. A less serious tone makes it fun to watch and makes my high school life bearable. Played the PSP game of the show and it's not too bad. It introduces a lot of marvel characters that I didn't know existed. Still remembers the intro song to this day.
Finally some praise for this show I felt all alone appreciating it
I loved watching this show as a kid, will definitely do a rewatch.
I think you've convinced me to check out this show and keep my Disney Plus subscription a bit longer.
God the opening theme always rings in my head when i think or am reminded of this show... such a nostalgic theme
I remember sleeping in my small bed as a kid and have super hero squad playing and falling asleep to this. I love this show
I remember watching this show as a kid I'll definitely rewatch it again
MAN THIS SHOW WAS MY CHILDHOOD‼️‼️‼️ ALRIGHT SQUADIES TIME TO HERO UP‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
I remember collecting the tiny figures for this show, they’d always come in dual packs at toys r us, I loved the whole show, this and ultimate alliance 2 are the reasons I’m a fan
I wanted to put a quick video out before No Way Home dominates your subscription feed, I used to watch the superhero squad show as a kid so I thought I'd revisit it to take a look as an adult.
NOTE: apparently post notifications isn't working for some of you, let me know if thats the case, otherwise if you haven't yet put post notifications on, please do, it's the best way to keep up to date when a video drops, either that or twitter :D
My soul grew up through this sh*t... XDXD
& the online game.
0:59 you mean Silver Age
you and i had the same idea then
