      White needs to win the game. Black needs to draw or win the game. There's a decisive result with increment anyways. I agree that there needs to be more time pressure in an armageddon game, but I'd suggest something along the lines of +1 second for a move only if you have less than 5 seconds. Of course that's never gonna happen because chess organizers are old fashioned and don't have the game developer mindset, but it's something to dream about@@Shkiperkir

    Games without increment should be played only by using computer screen.
    Games over the board should be played only with increment or delay in order to avoid things that happened in this game.
    During last 10 seconds of the game you can clearly see that both guys were violating rules by making move before opponent pressed the clock.
    Kramnik's falling/misplaced pieces made look this game not like chess game but like something else.
    Question - where was the arbiter?
    Again, the easiest solution to eliminate these things is to force players to play by using computer screen.

    • @stoutlager6325

      I've thought about this and eventually, begrudgingly, decided it's the correct idea. OTB time scrambles with 1 second increment or no increment are a mess. Always. If you insist on making armageddon like that they should play on computers so they can at least premove and avoid knocked over pieces and the whole fiasco that happens every time.

      @fuglbird Před 7 měsíci +16

      Over the board games without increment are absolutely fine. Knocking over pieces on the board and not restoring them before pushing the clock should result in an immediate intervention by the arbiters. The problem is that the arbiters are not active enough.

    Kramnik has always seemed like a gentleman. Blitz games used to be played as a form of casual "skittles" before or after a tournament, where there was no scoresheet, and the players would have fun and laugh at the mistakes, even their own. It used to be fun. Nowadays, however, they have "officialized" this skittles game into serious chess stakes, so that it's no laughing matter when you hang a piece or pawn or lose an equal or won game on time. Whenever I lose a rated slow game, I am not near as frustrated as when I lose a rated blitz game, because with the slow game, I usually have played better moves and I lost through some serious oversight I can learn from. With blitz, you lose and you learn nothing, and you resent the fact your opponent gets points because he capitalized on a silly mistake, instead of "outplaying" you.

    It could definitely be seen as bad sportsmanship, but I can also see how frustrating an experience it must have been for Kramnik, having been among the top tier elite for so long and losing to a youngster. Still, there is no excuse for not graciously staking hands with your opponent and sincerely congratulating him. Maybe Kramnik has been studying with Dina Belenkaya.

    That's why I don't like OTB bullet or blitz. It's just impossible to move the pieces accurately, it's just a mess. Classical and rapid are the best. Besides, chess was never meant to be a quick game anyway. But Kramnik can't be mad if he agreed to play such mode. He is still a brilliant player. Props.

    Nodibrek didn't do something wrong, we won legitimately. If Kramnik didn't like to lose like that he shouldn't participate in this tournament. On the other hand I wonder why, in the digital era are being played games without increment. The ideal rules for an Armagedon game, in my opinion. is like this. White take 5 minutes with 2 seconds increment, black takes X minutes with 2 seconds increment and before the game the two players bid on the value of X. The player with the smaller bid takes the black pieces.

    • @LoudWaffle
