  • This is the Hubsan H501S X4 advanced versus DJI Phantom 3 advanced. In this video I will compare the performance, features and price. This includes flight time, hover accuracy, video quality, noise level, top speed and control distance. I will also take a look at the features like follow me mode.
    Hubsan: www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopter...
    Coupon: RC15OFF
    The Hubsan remote has an integrated FPV transmitter, using a patch antenna for video transmission. Remember to always point it directly at the quadcopter! It rests nicely in the hands, and you can easily reach the switches. The Phantom requires you to install a phone or tablet as the viewing device.
    The most obvious difference watching the video from both drones, is the "smoothness". The Phantom has a gimbal, working as a physical stabilizer for the camera. The Hubsan does not have a gimbal, causing vibrations to appear in the video.
    Here's some of the resluts from my testing:
    Flying time:
    -Phantom = 22 minutes
    -Hubsan = 20 minutes
    Hover accuracy:
    -Phantom = Very good
    -Hubsan = Good
    Video quality:
    -Phantom = Smooth as butter and super nice quality.
    -Hubsan = A lot of vibrations but quite nice quality of the video.
    Noise level:
    -Phantom = Noisy
    -Hubsan = A lot quieter than the Phantom drone.
    Top speed:
    -Phantom = 16 m/s
    -Hubsan = 12 m/s
    Control distance range:
    -Phantom = 1500m
    -Hubsan = 800m
    Features and settings:
    -Phantom = A lot of settings with numerous useful features like follow me, point of interest and waypoints.
    -Hubsan = Not very many options and difficult to change any settings. However, it does have return to home and follow me.
    Conclusion:
    The DJI Phantom is far more superior in almost every single test. It's more user-friendly, though the Hubsan is way less expensive. As of now, the Phantom 3 advanced is 799$, and the Hubsan only 280$. As long as you're not looking for a camera platform to shoot videos and demand perfect video quality, the Hubsan will work just fine!

    The fact that your comparing a $1000+ dollar drone to a
    $250 drone... is all that really needs to be said. For the price, the 501s is FAR superior...

      #Nope
      The P3 Standard lacks a bunch of advanced features, most notably the increased range and FPV streaming speed. So if you want a drone that does FPV and you don't plan on racing you're actually better off buying the 501. I'm not even sure you can hook the Phantom up to goggles since they make a point to handle everything through their phone app.

      promise the 501 goes way faster than that, needs to be in altitude hold mode, expert on, manual on, and it will actually do flips and rolls, nothing controlled or very graceful but planned and intentionally done. it will also go closer to 18 m speed

  • @MrPolymers
    @MrPolymers Před 7 lety +13

    I can't really see the point of comparing a $800 Phantom to a $240 Hubsan. Yes, $240 on Gearbest for the Hubsan with the advanced remote "Black Friday sale". Granted, if the Hubsan had image stabilization, I'd pay much more for it. I also like the smaller size. I've built a half dozen quads from 260mm to 450mm. Guess which ones I fly?? The 260mm as they are easier to transport and just much more fun for me to fly.

    • @marjamada
      @marjamada Před 7 lety +1

      I found the same 'inverse pleasure' with sailboats. The smaller they are, the more fun I have.

    • @Edgewalker001
      @Edgewalker001 Před 7 lety

      I've actually been debating between buying those exact two quads and I'm almost convinced that buying the 501 and then comboing it with a pair of FPV goggles would result in more fun. I mean, it's got a 20 minute lipo pack and a camera that might not be the most amazing in the world but still better than the 0.3MP one I have on the drone I fly now XD
      Also the batteries for the Hubsan are only about $28 a pop so I could buy three of them and be flying for hours with a decent charger to rotate off.
      In fact, ALL of that would probably cost less than a P3A.

    I think this is an awesome video. To me, a beginner in the hobby of quadcopter flying I spent $30 on a JJRC H31 which is and learned to fly. Then when I felt my skills had improved, I bought the Hubsan 501c -- which has the GPS and RTH and takes decent video, but was only $135. (Still crashed it on my first flight!) Once I feel I've got that down then I'll move on to something like a DJI, but really am looking for another drone that is an intermediate, I hear the Hubsan 501A might fill that. I think the Hubsan is a decent entry point into the sport, I'd rather loose a $30, or $135, or $280 drone while I learn the sport than watching a $700 drone fly away or crash miserably because I didn't know what I was doing.

    It's uncontested. In cost to performance ratio the hubsan wins. If hubsan put more into this drone they'd have to charge more. The x4 pro has a gimbal and its $300. The phantom is nice, but not $800 nice.

    • @user-fi1xu1pp7p
      @user-fi1xu1pp7p Před 7 lety

      The Phantom 3 standard is $389 I think it's like a bang for your buck. It has all the nice features as the advanced except sensors. But who will fly a large gimbal drone indoors lol.

    • @paulreeder5241
      @paulreeder5241 Před 7 lety +1

      Charge more, they already do. When you compare the only X4 h109s version that ACTUALLY has the same features as this one, or should I say the Phantom 4. Version 3 of the X4 h109s, the price is actually a bit more. Go figure.
      How about comparing the right version already. The version you are talking about, the first version, for that price, is not worth it. The gimbal is only 1 axis. Only making it movable in the up/down. Only minutely different than the Hubsan h501s X4 which has a fixed camera angle and a much lower price. The h109s is also larger and heavier due to the gimbal. Also, same transmitter as the Advanced h501s. Really not better. Same as the version 2 of the X4 Hubsan h109s with the 2 axis gimble. Not that much better than the h501s advanced version. Still, the same transmitter. Only 2 axes. Does not make it better.
      So, in conclusion, only if the version 3 of the Hubsan X4 h109s was listed at the price of version 1, would it be so much better. But, simply because it is the only version that even comes close to the features of the DJI and the price is higher, does not make it a better purchase. Sorry. Someone has to be honest in these reviews. So, your cost to performance is wrong. Actually, in this instance, the Advanced Hubsan h501s X4 would be a better cost to performance comparison. Just sayin'

      ***** I saw it and bought it at Sam's Club. $389 was a special sale because they aren't carrying that drone anymore (end of 2016) now they carry the Phantom 4 and Mavic pro. I was stupid though because they had it for $349 on Black Friday, but I missed that and the price was originally $499, but then it got reduced back to $389 because of the new P4 and Mavic, and I didn't make the mistake, I bought it ! But unfortunately, now the P3s is only probably found at best buy, Amazon, target, or a hobby shop. If you can go to the hobby shop or Amazon, I think you can get a discount for $399 the most. Sam's was a little cheaper because it's a membership type store.

    • @RcLifeOn
      @RcLifeOn  Před 7 lety +1

      The Hubsan might be small, but it's still going to take up some space due to the shape. The Hubsan is like 300$ and the Mavic 900$? In my opinion, the Mavic is way more than 3 times the drone. Don't take me wrong, the Hubsan is good, but the Mavic is a lot better. Even though price might been an issue today, I would save up for the Mavic.

Yes the price difference is a huge difference and the Phantom 3 is an amazing drone, however where the hubsan really shines is in its size and portability for the user and the amount of time it is able to stay in the air for someone who likes to do some Quiet photography around wildlife etc. Happy Flying.. Totally fair man! Yes, if you have the money, of course, go for the better quality and a few more features. That are actually useless, IMHO, for the average person. However, Most of us can't afford those outrageous prices. So, we settle for the closest to the professional versions we can.

    You did a very good job on your comparison of the 2 , Although it's kind of a "Why shouldn't an $800. machine beat a $300. one" kind of deal. If you were going to use the Phantom, I'd rather seen the lesser of them like the Phantom 3 Standard, but I STILL enjoyed your video, it told me a lot I didn't know or hadn't thought about. I'm wanting one, (the best I can afford for the least Money) and the H501s is more in my affordability line as I'm sure many more people are like. Maybe one day I can fly with the Big Dogs, but Today I'm leaning toward the H501s Advanced, Unless there's a better one at or near the same price. Thanks for your video, you did a great job,

      Thank you very much for your comment. The idea of the video was to see the difference in performance, and even though we already knew the Phantom would be superior, the question remains; by how much? Hopefully the video provides the answer. Thanks once again!

    I like the way you made your video. I have the hubsan h501s and it has impessed me allot. I aw how you showed the range of the 2 but with a 15$ very easy mod you can double the range. I have a video where I flew 1403m. And I seen videos where it goes further. For the price thw hubsan is a winner and now it comes with the advanced TX. Good stuff man!

    A real contender that could go against the Phantom 3 is the Hubsan H906a x4 standard edition. Around 299$ to 499$ but has a gimbal, all the freatures of older models like the H501s you compared, and more!

    I own both models as you do. The one thing you failed to mention even though this is a great video (thank you), is how much faster a response time the 501 has. If I was hired for filming apples 4K screen savers, I would get the DJI. But for my own personal use, the hubsan is a fun little chopper that I can zoom around quickly. Phantom is way way more sluggish to start. Also, the footage from the phantom it’s not any better than my $80 action cam & gimble DIY for the hubsan. Either way, avoid the bugs 2W like the plague.

    The big difference for me was cost, size and flight time. The Hubsan has a transmitter that uses sat tech with out needing a wifi connection. That 800 quad is useless when wifi goes away. Look the 800 quad has better picks and video. You paid 500 for it. Talk to people who lose or wreck their 800 quad. For hunting, survival and most other reasons I pick Hubsan.

  • @MrDan11422
    @MrDan11422 Před 6 lety

    The Hubsan 501s is the perfect drone for someone starting out. I totally wished I didn't do it backwards. I got the DJI phantom 3 standard 1st and after a week broke the camera off. Cost me 100. So while I was waiting for it to get fixed. I purchased the 501s. Wow it is truly awesome. Worst case you might not even enjoy FLYING Muscle memory learning how to fly. When I crashed a few reasons are to blame but, mainly because I didn't react fast enough. Flying line of sight is another one(especially when there's things around you). Flying fpv is Not meant for the New One's. The 501s is a great way to learn, then upgrade into the DJI world. I love the phantom and will upgrade to the spark next.

    Just got the Hubsan H501SS Pro Advanced for my son's 15th -day, extra transmitter and drone batteries, case, Y-mod double battery upgrade cable, upgraded 2.4gHz antenna, remote and drone all for under $400! The DJI Phantom 3 is $634 for the quadcopter ONLY with the best price on Amazon, and the Hubsan H501SS we got was $180 with remote. $634 (+ remote cost) - $180 = $454 difference and you don't even have a remote with the DJI. Why compare the 2? If I was looking to buy a drone I would have a set cost in mind for my budget, I would compare the H501SS with something around $200 without the extras I bought, then compare additional upgrades and accessories and maybe customer service for each brand.

    If Hubsan used a digital gimbal, like the Parrot Bebop 1-2 and Disco, for some more bucks, I would buy the Hubsan. Now it's more like a big racer quadcopter, which is too bad, because it's video quality is quite good.

    I had just bought an X4 Pro prior to viewing this - I absolutely love your choice in comparison, your professionalism gives me more confidence pending delivery, so ignore the naysayers. The video couldn't be better, keep up the good work. So refreshing to see more intelligent offerings like this, versus those crackheads who habitually must start their garbage with "... What's goin' on? ..." and proceed to spend five minutes "teaching" us how to unbox.

    As many other people have said, you've made a great video but as a comparison it was not a good match up as they are not competitive quads. The tone of the video IMHO is that the Phantom is a way better quad, which it is, but that's like bragging that your diamond ring is shinier than plastic ring I got out of the quarter machine at the grocery store. If the tone of the video was more like your final slide; that the Hubsan, though not as good as the Phantom, is a awesome machine for the price/value, I think it would have been a better video.
