  • After 25 full days at sea, we finally made land fall and saw three Hawaiian islands from the sea. We previously had not seen land since the California coast, 25 days prior. Land Ho and Aloha!

You asked a couple of questions in this video. I sailed from SF to Kauai late June 2016, solo, it took me 14 days on my Cal 40. I had several days above 175, and the best day was 192, worst day was about 125 NM. So yes I did have wind, pretty much the entire way. The second question, is can you smell land, you bet you can. Nothing smells sweeter than that after 14 or 25 days;) Congratulations on the crossing! Great videos, keep them coming.

Hi, yes you can smell land after a long trip at sea and also see the the city light at night a long way out. Keep dry.

Awesomely handling major equipment failures, contrary winds, big seas, and putting it all into an epic vlog. A month on now, waiting, mostly patiently, to see what you do next!!!

Congratulations on your sail. I'm so glad you made it ok. I love your channel, you show the good, bad and ugly. I hope all of your future sails are spectacular ones. The 2 of you are just so sweet.❤

Well glad you made it but I thought your man was diesel mechanic. No parts or rolling back and forth could stop you from fixing the engine at sea. But you made it okay!
I have watched some others cross from California to Hawaii and I was thinking it would take 30 days to make the trip. Because all of the ones I watched it did take that long. An 80 yr old man did it solo in 30 days on a 30 ft boat. He also had his share of troubles at sea. You guys did well ! Thanks for sharing.

      @sailingposttime  Před 5 měsíci +1

Seth is not a diesel mechanic, although in time I am sure he will end up becoming one through practice. Glad to know 25 days is par for the course! Thank you for watching!

@@sailingposttime oh yeah Seth will learn.
Believe me he will. I have owned to many diesels to not know a little.
If it spins over and it is not to cold then it is one of two things to look at first fuel and compression.
If it over heats then it is something wrong in cooling system.
Exhaust fumes is easy. Just trace. It out.
But I am sure he knows these things, but this is why diesels are so dependable not much will keep it from running.
I have had them worn out really bad but start and run as good as a new one.
This was a good to watch show, you guys done well.
Oh a word to the wiser, don’t make the mistake of running out of fuel.
That can be lots of work to get it going again. Even with an electric fuel supply pump.

Jessica faced almost two weeks of no wind at one point and it was so frustrating. Especially when you're a young teen and alone. 😊 It can be hard.

Congratulations- you guys are awesome and I am so happy you had that passage and safely saw what it is. But you need one of you to become a diesel mechanic for that engine🤔. You can’t keep having problems with it and throwing up your hands in horror, you’ve got to be able to dig in. Take a course in marine diesel repair and maintenance, please before the next big passage. Hugs and warm thoughts- 🎉

How about 5 days of 24 miles from Ranrigoa to Oahu. Winds from the north on the nose of only 15 to 0 for 33 days and a daily march of squalls just to make thing more entertaining. One day of 124 mile, yahoo1, the crap, Burn thru 85 gallon of fuel. Single hand but no ships no jet trails no fish but did see a beautiful moon bow1
